Debit cards as rebates...

I have two debit cards I received as rebates in the last year (one from Staples, one from Verizon), both expire 7/2013.

We are taking a trip to Disney in July.

This presents me with two questions that I thought my fellow budget boarders may be able to answer...

1. Do these cards expire on the last day of June OR are they good throughout the month of July 2013.

2. As these are visa debit cards, can I use them on Disney property during our trip. Anyone ever used a rebate card at Disney?

I had sort of forgotten about the cards until I saw them when I got out my Disney rewards card to load last week in order to pay off our Disney trip.
I'm thinking they would be nice amount to take for the kids spending money ($80 total), but only if they will work and still be active then.

There was no phone number on the cards to call and ask about the expiration and I couldn't find this info via google. So, does anyone have experience using these types of rebate cards??

Thanks in advance for any information!

Usually the cards are good until the END of the expiration month... so they're good through 7/31.

And you can use VISA debit cards anywhere that you can use a VISA credit card (sometimes except for gas stations). So you're also good to go with using them at WDW!!

Have a great trip. :)

I would just use them during a normal grocery shopping trip well before your trip because they can be very finicky. They have to be ran as credit (not debit), and you have to know exactly how much is on the card (down to the last penny) for them to work usually. Just use them for groceries now and save the cash you would have spent on groceries for the trip.

I find this happening too. We used to give Visa gift cards to our nieces & nephews at Christmas but stopped after trying to use them.

When I really want to use them toward a Disney trip, I use them to buy Disney gift cards. This needs to be done in a store, not online. I tried to buy a $25 gc online and when you enter the debit card #, their computer sends a little test ping of $1 to make sure it's a valid card. Then the order shows as approved. When they go to actually bill the card, they bill the full amount $25. It couldn't go through cuz the little $1 ping pending made the balance show as $24 so the message that came to me was that the balance on the card was too low. :rolleyes1 After a long time on the phone with cs, they finally got it to work. After all that I found it easier to just go to a grocery store & buy a Disney GC.

Sounds like, just to be safe, this is the way to go. I'm so glad I asked because I never would have thought of that. lol.

Thanks everyone for the quick answers. Once again, the dis provides. :thumbsup2

Yes, if there's going to be a a hassle, better that it's at home and not while on vacay. :goodvibes

Hmmm, I just surprised to read that people have problems using their visa rebate card. We get them every time we have our oil changed in our car (yes, we wait until the dealer is having a special on oil changes, lol)

I've only had a problem once and that was in Walmart. The cashier didn't know it had to be ran as credit so she said it wouldn't work without a pin number. I explained that it would work as credit and it worked.

I always use the rebate card first and than pay the balance on my bank card. Never a problem.

another thing with these card is you don't have billing information but they get run as credit. so if the place you use them requires billing to be verified you can't use them. i too use them at a place like a foodstore. or go to target and get disney giftcards with them so you know you won't have issues. just let the cashier know the exact amount on each.

The trouble we've had on them is if there's a few dollars left on them, some places won't take them as a partial payment on something. :( So then we're left with $2 and change on a card and essentially need to spend exactly that amount.

I always convert them to amazon gift cards on amazon.com. Amazon doesn't run a test charge, so $25 is $25 to them. Very easy to just buy an amazon GC with the visa and then use that to buy everyday "stuff" instead of fighting with cashiers and computer holds.
