3 more sleeps....wahoo. The question that I have is - am I able to use my TD debit card for shopping purchases in Orlando, ie. at walmart and get cash back in american funds? Thanks! Forgot to ask when I was at the bank the other day.

Most US stores do not have the pin pad for debit purchases (not sure if Wal-Mart does). None of the WDW stores do.

Your best bet is to just go to a banks ATM and get cash. They are located in convenient places all around WDW.

I was going to say that too, no debit but you can use your bank card at a bank machine to get U.S. funds. If you ask for $100 it will give you $100 U.S and when you get home you will see what the difference is in the bank and what the dollar was at that on that day.

I used my card when I was in Detroit last year at Walmart, Kohls and a few other stores. I didn't ask for cash back, but I did use it for debit transactions.

TD has over 200 locations in Orlando that your debit card will work ours worked just fine at every store we tried it at they have an agreement in the US with stores etc that will allow you to use the DC. We used ours at teh Polo outlet at the Nike outlet and the Oshkosh outlet just to name a few even at the fudge shop and publix. Now this is just TD RBC and IBC and St Willies and PC financial do not have a working agreement in the US and thus thier DC's do not work only TD will work at this point.

Depending on your account, you might be charged huge fees. And you should tell your bank and credit card companies so they know you will be out of the country (sometimes they will call when you try to make a purchase - fraud department is looking out for you!) Have a great time!

IF you look on the backj of your card you will see the word 'Maestro' or something like that. This is the debit card company/facility used in the USA. If you see the word Maestro you know you can use your debit card. We used ours at Publix on the way in to WDW with no problem. I am not sure about the fees. I think a debit is a debit but I know I have 3 free ATM transactions down in the USA and after that it is about $3 per withdrawl. Check on the TD Bank website - it should lay out all the fees etc for you there.

Just a word of caution, use a major banks bank machines if possible. In the US it seems that there are plenty of small banking outfits unlike here in Canada. If you use one of the smaller banks, some will cause your account to be 'locked' for a few days until they get there money. It happened to a co-worker and myself in San Francisco a few years ago. My bank (Royal) explained this to me when I called.

Do you have a credit card? If so it is better to use that and pay off the bill promptly.

While debit cards are convenient, if something goes wrong, your entire bank account can be screwed up for a long time.

No fee other than the exchange rate on the TD debit purchases in the US we didn't get hit with a single service charge for it last May.

You are correct and TD is doing so to try to get ahold of a larger footprint in the US they are doing so to try to force banking regulations changes in teh US to conform to the same regs we have in Canada as we have strickter security policies and a uniform banking code and code of somewhat ethics LOL so they are working with RBC and thier US affiliate RBC Centura to work the US FEDS to change banking laws and regs so far they are winning out and things are slowly changing over. Imagine that Canada having a huge impact on US regulations LOL.
