Debit Card & Thrifty Question

Hi,
I tried to find this out on Thrifty's site, but didn't find anything real solid.

I'd like to know if I can rent with a major credit card, and pay using a debit card when returning?

Can this all be set up at pick up, or will this require a stop at the counter at drop off?

I am pretty sure you will have to go to the counter at drop off to change the card. Those little machines the check in guys use won't normally change the payment method.

We used National in May and Alamo last week and were able to use our debit cards at the time of pick up for both rentals as long as we showed our return flight tickets (to prove we would be back I guess!). No problem either time. When we dropped off, we did not visit the counter again, the rep just punched some info into the hand held thing and off we went.

We have used our credit card to reserve the rental car and debit card at time of payment for several rental companies. Each one is different so you may want to call or email them and ask them their policies.
