Sorry. I agree about using a CC for holds on rooms, car rentals, etc. I was just questioning not using them in restaurants. I gave a Visa debit card and - for more than a decade - I have been using it in restaurants.
Still bad, lets say the number gets stolen (restaurants are one of the number one locations of credit card theft), do you want your cash frozen while they work to resolve the issue?
Legally, your maximum liability for a debit card is $50 if you notify your bank within 48 hours, it then goes to $500 for I believe 45 or 60 days, after that, there is no limit. Credit cards have a maximum liability of $50. Now some creditors/banks have slightly better terms, but again, your locked cash versus credit, big difference in terms of handling most obligations.
