Is this a brewhaha?;)

Where to start....

Steve, as always, THANK YOU for the information. It is much appreciated.

Unfortunately, some forget that there are those who really want to be helpful and post some information without having it turn into another debate. Sorry you got bushwhacked, but you did respond well.

... I enjoy your factual post very much, but on this board you are beating a dead horse. If Disney says "yes",the answer should have been "no",if they say "white", it should have been "black". The experts on this board know so much more about running a mega-billion $$$$ company then ME ever will.
Comments like these, however, are very disappointing, especially coming from a regular. Apparently some of us are not doing a good job of articulating our opinions (both pro and con), and are falling short in making the basis for our opinions clear. My apologies for my part in this shortcoming.

gcurling: well said! You know, I've never met another guest who wouldn't take a picture of our party in front of the (insert kodak photo spot of choice here) if asked politely.
One thing that is a plus about the Disney photographers is that not only do they take the "official" picture, but when we have asked, they have been happy to take photos with OUR cameras as well. This once included FOUR cameras. As long as they keep this attitude, and stay away from the hard sell, I'm ok with them.

Back to Steve's original information... I completely agree with gcurling's comment, so why try to restate it?
Opportunity costs aside (i.e. what WDW could have done with the money otherwise) I think this sounds like a fairly neat idea. Not sure who gets to use it, but if it's free to get the photos on your room TV, we'll probably give it a shot.

Read BobO's comment on the "prayers for shuttle" thread. Is that a valid accessment of Disney ? A few months ago, this board slammed Disney/ME because they released SantaClause 2 just before Thanksgiving. The rational was that rather then produce a movie good enough to compete with HP2, Disney chose to release it in advance and at least get a week or two of success. As I recall,SC2 did pretty well anyway. Then they release TP. Oh how this board cried about the stupidity of Disney/ME releasing it up against LotR2. By everyones account, TP was a well done movie, but it bombed because of when they released it. So Disney is wrong when the chose to avoid an HP2 release and they're wrong when they chose to go head-to-head with a LotR release.

No, it's not. The only thing it's a valid assessment of is Bob.

(And I'm not picking on you here, Bob. I have agreed with you and disagreed with you. And I often find great humor in your posts. But in the case of your post on the above-mentioned thread, I think you were way off base.)

WdSearcher, Based on disney's recent history i wouldnt be surprised that if they did do a tribute that there wouldnt be some type of merchandising aspect behind it.
Viking i waswrong in my judgement of when the movie should have been realesed and it did much better than i thought, but it still was a movie of low quality IMHO that did make good money for disney(which im happy for as i am a stockerholder).

Which recent history is that? I wasn't aware that Disney ever attempted to profit from or, in fact, did profit from any national tragedy. Ever. And if we're talking recent, then we're talking 9/11. So ... what did Disney do to profit after that? I don't remember seeing WTC snowglobes with Mickey on top selling on property.

Columbia souvenirs are selling like hotcakes at KSC and other souvenir shops that carry that type of merchandise, but I don't think people who are selling those items are profiting off of a tragedy, unless they're doubling or tripling prices (see eBay for popular examples). If Disney decided to put a "tribute to fallen heroes" exhibit in the Space pavilion, and then sold items related to it, why would that be a bad thing?

Speaking of which ... didn't you have the same judgement about "Signs?" As I recall, you were pretty upset that it was released after Christmas instead of before. How has it done, sales-wise, based on what you were expecting?

Not true. We have made it clear what would keep us happy. Disney, at the present, is just not very interested in doing it. And we fear that this augurs bad times ahead for us and Disney.

Vike, he meant the DVD.

Kidds, you're a dirty, stinking Jets fan??? I don't like you anymore. :)

Lives in Florida and has a reaction like this. Can only mean you are a Dolphins fan. Let me give you a bit o' advice my Fish friend - don't get mad at me because your team can't win a game when it counts (even when they have a comfortable lead with less than 5 minutes remaining and the division title on the line). The Jets had been known for their December swoons - but the Dolphins are even worse . Hey, weren't you happy when the Jets Miracle at the Meadowlands 4th quarter comeback was voted the best Monday Night Football game of all time?
Not true. We have made it clear what would keep us happy.
I'll have to tackle this one later ;).

'Pearl Harbor'

Oh wait, you're right. They didn't profit from that one, did they?

Steve, thanks for the info. As a person who often goes to WDW solo, and is reluctant to ask people to take my picture, I really look forward to these.
BTW, I'm so sorry that you can't give us info about what's happening without it degenerating as some people have to express negative opinions. I, for one, really appreciate hearing from you about what's new.

Well!! This thread has certainly twisted and turned! (Don’t ya just LOVE it!!! :bounce: ) But let’s see if we can twist it back to the original (with, of course, a slight detour here and there, just because I can’t help it)!!!

First, in response to KNWVIKING, who said:

Damn straight!!!! I’d take ANYONE from this board over Ei$ner!! Even Mr. Kidds, the long lost pirate or $coop himself!! They “GET IT”. He clearly does not!!

Greg (Gcurling) said:
Sometimes I try not to make eye contact or intentionally walk fast. I really wish I didn't have to do that. It's a little like avoiding the "carny's" as you walk through a midway at the Fair.
I always say, “Nope! Mike’s got enough of my money already!!” They usually laugh. And sometimes they even agree!!

And what’s a LandBaron post if there isn’t some sort of response to Mr. Kidds.
Most of you car 3 types do a fairly good job of articulating your opinions, all the good Viking was pointing out is that, in the end, there really is no keeping you @#$%^&'s happy
There most certainly is, Mr. Kidds. Start making decisions based on Walt’s philosophy and not on Disney® bottom-line thinking. Unfortunately, that type of thinking is totally alien to Ei$ner. :(

Simba's Mom. A question for you.
BTW, I'm so sorry that you can't give us info about what's happening without it degenerating as some people have to express negative opinions.
How does the discussion about this item’s particular value detract from the news of what’s taking place? I’m really wondering why any “I’m so sorry…” was necessary. You still learned what is going on and the “some people” have had a chance to voice their opinion. Just as (for lack of a better term) “other people” have defended the action, or at least justified it. So tell me. Why does it bother you? Just curious.

Now for the esteemed Mr. Steve, or as I like to refer to him, Safari Steve(!) the best darn skipper of the Jungle Cruise I ever heard!!! (… and I’ve heard thirty odd years worth of them!!)

Thanks!!

… But I do have to throw in with those known as “some people”. The money would be better spent on thousands of “other” things that isn’t an automatic, bottom-line, sharp pencil guys type of instant profit center. But I guess I have to go back and study some Disney philosophy, because I evidently don’t “GET IT”!!! ;)

Simba's Mom,
Any CM should be more than happy to take a picture for you. Don't worry at all about asking. (Many of us even offer to help with photos.)

Been hard at work figuring out how the Raiders can win one more game next year.... But since that's a much easier task than figuring out how to win 2 or 3 more, I've got a minute or two to spare...

Most of you car 3 types do a fairly good job of articulating your opinions, all the good Viking was pointing out is that, in the end, there really is no keeping you @#$%^&'s happy .
How would we ever know?

Produce something that lives up to the Disney standard, then we'll see.

Actually, Illuminations seems to be well received by all, and that is fairly recent.

Signs was released in Aug.
To refresh our memories.... The Signs release discussion was in reference to the video release, as opposed to the theatrical release.

Sir Matt!! You’ve done it again!!!
Actually, Illuminations seems to be well received by all, and that is fairly recent.
YES!! YES!! A thousand times YES!!!

Mr. Kidds!! Illuminations makes this “@#$%^&'s” extremely happy!!!! What say you to that?!?!?

I always say, “Nope! Mike’s got enough of my money already!!” They usually laugh. And sometimes they even agree!!

Herr Baron,

That is SOoo good I am going to steal it.

Ah, don't get your panties in a bunch fellas. Just having a bit of fun and yes, I am aware of what you guys long for (because - as the Baron so wholeheartedly in CAPS agrees, I "GET IT:!!! ;)) but it is just that there is a snowballs chance you'll get the whole enchilada you hunger for and 3/4 of the enchalada isn't going to cut it for you.
Mr. Kidds!! Illuminations makes this “@#$%^&'s” extremely happy!!!! What say you to that?!?!?
I say

WDSearcher, AV pointed out one and disney also used the birthday of their founder as a marketing campaign to induce visits to the park in wdw while doing little to honor him at all in the park he created DL. With eisner in charge i believe he will do anything possible to increase revenue, even profiting from a disaster if he can get away with it without to much pr damage.
In reagrds to the new shuttle disaster their already are reports that some"sick"people are trying to sell recovered items on ebay already!!! In regards to Signs it was the decision when to put the dvd on sale and i havent seen any reports of how many they sold.(i did buy one though, great movie!!)
