Death Penalty...

This might just be in tennessee, but don't you get a ton of appeals made avalible to you when you are sentenced to death? And theres no telling how long those people can sit on death row.

Death could be considered an easy way out. But I'm not one for making it easy. They need to be punished. So punish them.

The gas chamber is arguably the most torturous method of all of them. I know Massachusetts has no death penalty so people can't be sentenced to death row here.

I want them to bring back the guiateen or whatever.

Heh, I forgot to add this one to the OP.

For the gas chamber, family members are "invited" to watch.

I am against it. I think that someone who did something like that deserves to sit and pay for what they did in jail for the rest of their lives, not just take the easy way out. If I had to choose, I would choose the one that ends it fastest.

Yeeehh.
And I can see the 'Viewer Discretion is advised' warning..

Ah yes. They really stopped the use of that when they were killing a woman and they heard her scream as the blade went through her neck.

I remember reading in a text book, that one man believed you live a few seconds after the head is severed. To prove this he told a friend, who was in the audience, to watch for a blink. Tradition had it, the executor would hold the head up after it has been separated from the body...the man told this friend that if he was indeed still alive after the fact, he would blink. Apparenly he blinked. I don't know how true this is, it was just a story I read.

I've heard many variations of that. I believe it to be true. Because its physically possible.

Now, a painfree way to kill someone with one would be to chop the top of their heads off, instead of their neck.

I found the way the firing squad works rather interesting. They tie the criminal to a pole and then bring in a doctor. The doctor marks the area on the body that is the "softest" or fastest area to kill if hit as such. Then, they have 5 sharp shooters fire at the person. However, only four are actually firing real bullets. One of the shooters is firing blanks, only they don't know which one of them it is. I was told that was for sanity reasons on the part of the squad.

Yup, I've always found that very interesting too and is brilliant because of the guilt (eventhough he/she may have deserved it and probably did) of it would be enough to drive one of them mad I'm sure. Although if it would I'm not sure why you would be part of it but that's something else.

Well, it seems like a fair punishment for someone that has committed murder.

But I still disagree with it. If you did something that bad you should suffer. I'd rather be killed than be in jail for life. So might other criminals. I don't know. That's just what I think.

And if someone is given the death penalty...it takes a long time for them to actually be killed.

I dare to ask this question to people who say they would rather die than live in prison.

Imagine yourself on death row. The guard unlocks you and takes you to your final meal. As your sitting there picking at your mashed potatoes or whatever. I'm guessing you would want to continue living at that point.

Not enough? Okay, imagine your strapped down to the bed, and the doctor is readying the poison for the lethal injection. I'm sure that prison cell would be looking mighty inviting.

I don't know about you all, but I don't get the idea of sitting in prison is worse than death. If you killed someone intentionally, I highly doubt your going to have much guilt about it. Also, why do you think so many people on death row file appeal after appeal after appeal? It's because they don't want to die. They would rather live on in prison. You can live very well in prison actually. You get on the guard's good side, there is no telling what you could get. I saw one man in prison, his cell was better than my room.

Honestly, there is NO WORSE punishment than death.

very well said. and I totally agree. I've worked in a job where I catered food to prisoners, and they're eating better than I am.

And we're paying for it. Wow, what a fabulous society.

What if an innocent guy was found guilty and sentenced to the death penalty? Imagine being that guy on death row.

I, personally, would never want to be sentenced the the death penalty. Though I also wouldn't want to spend my life in a cell smaller than my closet with only a bed, toilet and sink squeezed in near each other. I would go insane. lol. I can't do the time, so I won't do the crime haha.

I'm still on the edge of my decision...I'm not sure if I'm for or against the death penalty.

Is killing a criminal moral? If not, does the phrase, "two wrongs don't make a right" work into this? :confused3

To be totally honest with you, I have very little faith in the judicial system of the United States. I realize, some innocent people WILL be convicted. But I say give them one appeal.

This is going to sound totally barbaric, but if we make an example out of someone, I think that the number of extreme crimes might just got down a little. If we could only beat into their head "we will get you, and this is what we'll do when we do"

But not all criminals are intelligent. And that wouldn't work with everyone.

This also brings up the question of "what can we kill you for?" How bad do you hvae to be for us to kill you?

Moral... in a way no. Necessary... no. Comforting... to some. I am for it... but I can't think of what goes through prisoner's minds. But, I say save it for the worst of the worst. Like for Liz and David Carroll. Marcus Fiesal's murder was brutal and disgusting. Being starved/dehydrated to death then burned multiple times. And he was 3!

The death penalty is the easy way out. I think they should be jailed for a minimum of 10 years and then killed. But then again, that would equate to using taxpayer's money to pay for these people.

Nah, there is worse punishment than the release of death. We, as a humane society, would not allow for cruel punishment though. For me, I'm all for punishing a prisoner. You did the crime, you get what you deserve. An eye for an eye, as otherwise stated.
