Oh what terrible news! My heart breaks for this boy and his family. I wish them peace in this horrific time.

This just breaks my heart. Whatever happened, I hope it was quick and that he didn't know.

Not much more info, but channel 6 says he was 12 and that he complained of feeling ill when he got off the ride. How sad.

Just saw this story on CNN about 3 mins ago and came here to see if there was any added information. My heart goes out to the family about this.

As of now, according to CNN, there is still an investigation going on about what may have caused the death. The ride is currently closed. From what I understand (for this report), the boy was 12 years of age. It was not until the cars pulled back into the loading area that anything was noticed as being wrong. When everyone got out of the cars and the boy did not move, they realized that something had happened. Disney officials administered CPR and called for an ambulance. The child was pronounced dead at the hospital.

He was the only one injured/in distress when the ride was completed. It is unknown if he had previous health issues or if he was riding alone. Nothing was said about the restraints or any mechanical issues.

Let us not speculate about what happened until more information is released.

A 12-year-old male Guest was transported by ambulance to Celebration Hospital today at approximately 11:30 after riding Rock 'N' Roller Coaster. We subsequently learned that he passed away.

We offer the family our deepest sympathies. A company representative is with them providing assistance.


We have closed the attraction pending an investigation. An initial review of the attraction shows the ride was operating normally. We have notified Orange County law enforcement. The state Bureau of Fair Rides Inspection has also been notified and will observe the inspection and review of the attraction

The thing that confuses me though is, why does Universal not have any reports like this (or do they)?

I never hear about this with IOA at Universal. With the intense rides they have at IOA surely they have as many, if not more problems, yet I never hear about it.

It just got me curious.

I just really feel sorry for his family. Can you imagine what his mom and/or dad must be going through right now. That's enough to completely destoy a parent, especially when they are on vacation at a place where they likely went because they love being together as a family.

Heartbreaking.

They do report accidents at Universal, I just don't think they become such big news as with Disney. But I have seen several, I remember one in particular at the Hulk, someone had a heartattack.

This is very sad, and my thoughts and prayers go out to the family. I couldn't imagine going through that, you just don't think things like that will happen while you are at Disney.

Agree. That confuses me too?? Could be that Disney has more #s of folks riding the rides, or that people take kids and maybe not so healthy people on the rides at WDW more often because they think Disney is safer???

I'm able to search newspaper articles online with special software and I have to tell you that I find MORE accidents, injuries on Six Flags and Universal searches than I do Disney and just as much, if not more, deaths.
(A) I think Disney gets more national press and (b) I think Disney has more sheer numbers coming through, thus perhaps higher "incidence", though, like I said, nationwide newspapers have pretty equal reports.

i would pretty much agree with you and also b/c disney is more natioanlly recognized they are sued by families very often for the stupidest things

CNN LIVE at MGM said the child is 12 yo and was riding with his dad. That he was UNresponsive upon the ride coming to a stop. He was rushed to Celebration Hospital and pronounced dead upon arrival.

Whats most sad about these situations is that most parents/children dont even know there's a health problem until something this devastating happens, particularly because it's hard to pick up on a routine check-up with your doctor, or your pediatrician in this case. The hardest part is that constant guilt feeling of if only I had known then this could've been prevented. I feel like this has been happening alot latley with undiagnosed health problems...even too close to home, as this just has happened to a girl who went to the highschool in the district that I work in, just playing in a soccer game one day. Clearly, more advanced testing needs to be standard during routine check ups and maybe pediatric equipment should be more advanced.

With all due respect, why are you so sure Universal has "as many, if not more problems?" Universal doesn't control the Orlando Sentinel, CNN, Fox et. al.; you can be darn sure if there were serious injuries or deaths on their rides, it would be getting press.

Perhaps the question we should be asking is why are people not dying on Universal's thrill rides -- while they (albeit, a tiny number) are on Disney's?
