Whoever is an admin or moderator - is there a way we can re-emphasize the no politics/no religions rule? I have seen a lot of threads get shut down that were political from the 1st post. Obviously, they devolved into bickering and negativity after that.

I guess what I'm saying is...can we just close the thread when we see the first posting?

I don't mean to be jerkish, but it's just bringing down the whole mood of this place! I come here to talk Disney stuff. I get we live in a big world with lots of stuff going on, but can we keep it light in one area?

If we aren't supposed to talk politics or religion, then we need to keep those rules in line. Letting one post about laws or worldwide issues is instantly going to turn into people bickering. Especially online.

That's all - thank you! I hope this doesn't get me in trouble either! I'm interested in all those topics, but I realize I have to keep scrolling.

Look at the bottom of posts (yours included). See where it says Report? You can report any thread you think is inappropriate by hitting that link. Moderators don't patrol the boards 24/7.

Mods aren't paid employees patrolling the boards. They don't see everything and they certainly don't see things right away. If you see a post that you think violates DIS guidelines you should report it by hitting the report button at the bottom left of the individual post.

This is the Community Board, it is for topics that aren't about Disney. If you come here to talk about Disney then there are plenty of other boards here where you can do that.
If you choose to stay on the CB and you see a thread or a post that breaks the rules, you are free to report it so the mods are aware of it. They will use their discretion and close it if they feel it goes against the rules.
They aren't perfect and there are times I wonder why things get to stay and some don't, but overall they do a good job of making sure we all behave. This is one of the nicest boards out there.

OP, I hear you, things have become more venomous lately, plainly meant to bait a response or sabotage dialogue or drive perception of sentiment in a particular direction like one long infomercial. Personally, I'm mostly curious about the source so when I do decide to look it's mostly just :scratchin popcorn::

Things turn so quickly I'm not sure the mods are aware in real time so reporting is a good idea if you think a thing is over the line.

I think part of the problem with the way DISboards is structured and moderated is that every sub-forum is treated as a standalone message board with its own rules and moderation, which is a very 1990s way of thinking about things.

I'd wager that most people navigate the forum by using the "New posts" button, which is sub-forum-agnostic. It just shows you every thread sorted by new activity. If I see a thread topic that I consider interesting, I click on it. If the thread topic is "Honeymoon at Disneyland and Aulani," I don't stop to check whether I'm in the Disneyland section, the Trip Reports section, the Aulani section, the LGBTQ section, the Weddings and Honeymoons section, the DVC section, or any other section.

When you say "there are plenty of other boards here where you can do that," you're referring to sub-forums within DISboards. But when I read "other boards," I read that to mean "sites other than DISboards." This idea of boards-within-DISboards is confusing. It's all DISboards, and having different rules for different sections is extremely confusing.

You’re welcome to start a Disney thread of course, but in general, there is very little Disney talk on the Community Board. Maybe you’ll find more of what you’re looking for in a different forum.

That I agree with 100%.

Yes I mean forums but since I spend most of my time here or on the budget board I call them “boards” didn’t mean to add to the confusion

I've been told that reactions always depend on the Mod/Admin who sees it as well. Some seem to let things go where others react harshly and quickly.
There have been threads that have been locked and I thought shouldn’t have because there was no arguing or flames being thrown. Just conversation. But it’s not my boards. Not my decision.

No no no, it's not just you. Many people, including most of the mods I've interacted with, refer to them the same way you do. It's common within DISboards to talk about them that way but uncommon elsewhere.

I got wrist-slapped a bunch of times for COVID posts that I thought were entirely on-topic in a given thread, but if that thread was in a particular sub-forum, it would have different rules than if it had been posted somewhere else.

That was the reason I asked so I could better understand. I was told it all depended on who saw it and reacted to it however they wished. Luck of the draw I suppose.

Ok. so I guess I confirmed my own thoughts on the matter. Thank you all.
