Dear designers:

I need longer shirts to avoid exposing my back fat every time I bend over.

Can I also mention how tickled I am that I finally started a multi-page thread?

Dear Designers,
1. Please stop selling babydoll tops, I hated them when I was pregnant (both times) and don't like them now!
2. For us smaller ladies, Stop the vanity sizing! (or whatever it's called). Stores should sell all jeans and pants according to waist size, not some random size number that seems to change from season to season. My size/weight has not changed but I am in smaller sizes than last season.
3. Speaking of jeans, just because I am smaller, I don't want to shop in the junior's department for jeans that are super low cut with jewels on them!

That is all:thumbsup2

Yes! :) I think you hit a nerve for a lot of women, no matter their size. There is a lot of stuff that isn't working for us! To an extent, I can see the dilemma designers face. We all come in different shapes and sizes. I'm sure it's hard to hit the mark on everything. But some of it is pretty basic and there seems to be a lot of agreement on prints, baby doll tops, and sizes in general.

It would be nice if the manufacturers used measurements like men's clothing. I don't see it happening though.

Dear maternity clothes makers: Just because I am 29 weeks pregnant doesn't mean I don't want to look good. Please stop making ugly jeans. Also, please don't assume that the only jeans I will wear are the full panel jeans, I happen to HATE them. Also also, I am not expanding ANYWHERE but my belly, so please don't make the hips and butts huge on all your jeans. I've decided to just buy a size 6 in regular jeans, because I hate your jeans!

Dear Designers:

Not all women are Misses and Juniors! There are many of us Petite women out there that need clothes to fit us (including those of us who may need Women's Petite in the Petite section not mixed in with the Women's). There should be a variety of styles in Petites - not just for the 20 somethings. What may look good on a young woman may not look good on someone who is Petite and in their 50's, 60's or older (case in point, my Mom who is 64 and Petite - 4'11").

Also, the Petite departments in stores are extremely small compared to that of the Juniors and Misses - which is twice the size or more! I'm 5'4" and the variety of clothes in the Petite section is very small. There are more clothes available that I like in the Misses department compared to that of the Petite department

I would love to buy a summer dress that is office/church appropriate. We don't all have arms like Michelle Obama. I cannot find anything that isn't sleeveless with a deep v-neck, and way above the knee. Most dress are sundress-type.

Please help!

Dear designers -

Why are you making clothes for little girls that make them look like ProstiTots and clothes for tweens that make them look like Hoochie-Mamas and clothes for teenagers that make them look like Prostitutes on Parade while you try to foist off the baby-doll look onto women?!? Are you trying to age UP younger girls and age DOWN women over the age of 21?...

Well, guess what?

IT AIN'T WORKIN'!

agnes!
PS - If anyone is looking for some nice dressy stuff that travels well, Chico's Travelers line is wonderful.

Amen to that!! There should be some universal sizing because from store to store you could wear a different size and believe me if I go to store that sizes small I will not buy pants there, it makes me mental!! I've gone somewhere and bought 2 pairs of the same exact brand of jeans and had to take one back because it didn't fit!:confused3

I'm also chiming in for the longer shirts, I'm 5'10" with no bust to speak of but I have an abnormally long torso and I hate shirts that sit right at my actual waist. So I mostly buy t-shirts at Old navy where they are long but I'd like more options.:thumbsup2

DD14 complains because when we shop I make her try on everything she wants to buy, even shorts which are the same except for color. I tell her that even though they say they are the same, chances are they won't fit the same and I am not going to bring you back to return/try on again.

I agree with the "baby doll" tops. Also the tops that have an elastic band on the bottom to make the middle part billow. Um, no one looks good in these. I know many women that buy these kind of tops because they don't like their stomachs but it just makes them look bigger :confused3

(And the only reason I found this out is I had a bunch of them [the baby doll types and a lot of empire waist shirts] and had pictures taken on vacation. I look pregnant in all of them and I'm fit!)

Many times I don't like the styles on What Not to Wear. The one good piece of advice I took from that show was " Dress your widest part then find a good tailor".

So I have most of my pants taken in at the waist (hips biggest spot) along with any fitted shirts. Yes it costs you but it is the best feeling having clothes that fit. I am wearing a skirt that I just got back from the tailor and what a difference it made in my silouette (our bathroom at work has a full length mirror so no hidding from a bad outfit):rotfl:

Onto the topic at hand, I cannot find any nice clothes either. I used to shop at Sears (many years ago) for basics but I find their clothes poorly made now. Then I was thrilled when Kohls opened up in my area but everything there seems either too big or too small.

I do have suits for work but when the weather is warm I like dresses. Our dress code mandates no sleeveless so I have cardigans in basic colors.

I hated tween clothing when my DDs were that age. I used to buy them denim shorts in the boys dept to get them long enough. Now that they are older, DD14 likes to show for basic denim shorts in the misses dept so that they are long enough and everything is covered.

This!

I don't do sleeveless (or low necklines). Plus, in Iowa we do have our hot days, but anymore it doesn't seem like lots of them. Add to that the air conditioning that will probably be running at church/wedding/event, and sleeveless is just not enough. I find this for girls summer dresses too. Easter dresses- we are lucky if it is 50º outside at Easter service. All of the Easter dresses are sleeveless, necessitating finding a coordinating shrug or sweater.

I found myself a good short sleeve v-neck but not too far dress at JC Penney last year by East 5th.

I was shopping for shorts for my girls this month. All of the shorts in stores are either SHORT, or bermuda length but cut skinny. Skinny leg is too tight for my 8 year old who's not a slim.

I can't stand padded bras either! I laugh to myself over the padding and the lack of substance of the bras! They are so flimsy! I need support! If I'm going to the trouble to wear a bra, I want it to do the job, not feel like it's barely there. It's so funny/frustrating to shop for bras. I pass over just about every one I see.

I don't like to shop for bras. If I find a bra I love, I usually buy a bunch at the same time so I don't have to do it again for a long time.

How about no one who wears a DDD cup needs a padded bra. Period. I also do not wnat my ****s to become some sort of untility shelf. I need a bra that provides support without all the padding, and also doesn't turn me into a walking serving tray!

While we are at it could we possibly get something in women's petite that doesn't look like curtians, a table cloth, or a vegas nightclub gone horribly wrong. Short, fat chicks like cute clothes too, but we also do not need low rise jeans and "sausage roll" shirts. No one wants to see the spillage that occurs.

I hear you! I'm in the same boat! Those bras can stand on their own, they are uncomfortable, and look awful! The cups are like a shield and the rest of the bra is like paper. Makes no sense.

Don't get me started on demi-cups. If I wanted all of that exposure, I'd go bra free. :upsidedow

Why oh why must you design a swimsuit with a plunging neckline for an 8 year old girl :confused3

It has been a major pain trying to find DD a cute swimsuit that doesn't show her lady bits every time she bends over. She doesn't really have anything yet to fill in the swimsuit top yet she and I would like for her to be able to have some modesty

Going off on a tangent here.....You know how they take pics on some rides at WDW and you can buy them afterward? We had ridden Tower of Terror and went to look at the pics. I had on a V neck top and when I saw the pic I began to LMAO. They must have taken it on the first "push down" when you are being pushed down faster than gravity could drop you. The effect was that "the girls" were pushed up....WAY UP.....and were saluting all of WDW. :rotfl2: I swear, it looked like I was wearing the world's most effective WonderBra and had gotten a breast enhancement to make them about a DDDD. They were downright ROUND, like the artificial ones. :rotfl: They could not have been any higher if I had been hanging upside down from a trapeze. :lmao:

Well, we didn't purchase the Hooters from Heaven photo. But I did tell DH that I wondered if some WDW worker somewhere has a stash of Tower of Terror "'enhanced" breast shots. :scared1::confused3:rolleyes:

We are leaving for WDW in 6 weeks. I have been shopping several days a week for the past 3 weeks. This is what I have found:

I am a size 8 or 10 in shorts and capris. I have TONS of shorts on hand already. I need shirts. Shirts, it turns out, are impossible to find. :headache:

If I want a plain, scoop neck T shirt I am out of luck. Because scoop neck T-shirts are knee length and fit like a wetsuit IN SIZE XL!!!! HOW can I be an 8/10 in bottoms and XL shirts are SKIN TIGHT? HOW is that possible? I am not any bigger on the top than I am on the bottom! Oh, the shoulders in the XL are too big, while the rest of the shirt is too tight.

Fine. Let's try another brand. Shirt fits in the store. Size large. Good. Bring the shirt home, wash it in cold, dry it on Medium, and now the shirt is 3 inches shorter than it was. :headache: Now it BARELY touches the waistband of my shorts! Unacceptable.

Back to the mall. Try on a shirt in Medium. Too tight. Same shirt in Large, too big. Forget it.

I see shirts slit down to the belly button, shirts that are the same thickness as a single layer of Kleenex, and my personal favorite, T-shirts that are $45. Seriously? All I want is a FEW SHIRTS!!! No cap sleeves, no exposed midriffs, nothing that fits like a flippin' LEOTARD! :furious:

I could have wrote this post. I have the exact same problem and am the same size as you. I feel like I am always on a quest for the perfect T-Shirt. I want a scoop neck (more flattering than a basic neck) and I want a longer sleeve. I did find some at JJill. They have a basic scoop neck tee with a longer arm. I bought the basic black and white but think I will go back for more colors. Give them a try - you might like those shirts.

1. Speaking of bras, why is bra material so thin in the important areas? I have to wear a padded bra, or the first time in the frozen food section.......ka-ching! I HATE this! I am a C and don't really need a padded bra, just coverage!

2. Heels- what is up with the 4 inch heels? Who is wearing these? Not only are they not comfortable, I am 5'11. I am ALREADY towering over everyone. And just because I need a lower heel, doesn't mean I need grandma shoes!

3. T-shirts as thin as tissue paper. Does everyone really want to see my bra? I don't think so!

4. 11 y/o daughter and NO hoochie mama, hot pants, short shorts, daisy-dukes, or whatever you want to call them is going on my daughter! Neither do I want the word JUICY on her butt or mine.

Dear Designers,
Stop making empire waist dresses for petite women in an attempt to make us look taller, it doesn't. They only make us look chubby and pregnant. I know all the fashion experts say these make us look taller and slimmer, but I have yet to have this experience. I'm 5'1" and relatively small- size 4/6, but am stocky, and for some reason natural waist dresses and tops look best on me.
Oh, and please stop with the graphic tees everywhere, what happened to a solid colored fitted shirt :confused3

And to everyone saying, stop with the lowrise pants, I actually prefer them. Paired with a long shirt, they lengthen my torso, making me look taller and thinner, however, I don't like the so low I can't bend over without revealing everything jeans. Reasonably low, is what I like. Seriously are those just called normal now??

Not sure if any of you are plus sized but can you plus sized designers PLEASE STOP making shirts with big ole flowers or geometric prints or old lady designs???

I mean c'mon, it's bad enough that it's so hard to find any clothes for us bigger gals, but do they have to be so damn hideous? I am so sick and tired of wearing plain colored shirts with nothing on them. And trust me, you DO NOT want to see someone my size (or any size for that matter) in some of the prints that I see out there.

***and a side note for other larger ladies*** just because they make "cootchie cutters" as someone mentioned, in a size 26, does NOT mean you should be wearing them. They're only out to make money, trust me....they don't look good on you. LOL

And who the heck decided that larger sized people WANT elastic waist pants???????

I hate shirts that make people look pregnant (when they're NOT), too-short shirts, low-waisted jeans, bell-bottom jeans, hideous patterned shirts.

And can we make pants that have DEEP pockets????? Not all of us ladies carry purses to put our stuff in, thus the need for REAL POCKETS in our pants/jeans.

And I wonder why I shop the men's department...

My biggest beef is all of the stretchy shirts out there. I can wear them but I'm not shaped perfectly and I don't need shirts that show every line in bras either. I miss the comfortable well-fitting 100% cotton shirts that used to be easy to find.

I also hate it that so many of the jeans have spangles and glitter and other nonsense on them. Come on, just give me a simple pair of jeans that don't sit at the waist or ride too low!

This.

I want my pants to be just above my hipbones. Not below my stomach. I don't mind wearing the size I NEED.... But I would be having a "muffin top" if I wore low-rise jeans.
