Dear designers:

1. Cap sleeves look good on only a small percentage of adult women.
I have to disagree. What looks bad on me is a short-sleeved shirt with "regular-sized" sleeves, which look over-sized and manish on me. Many "regular-sleeved" shirts almost touch my elbow, making me look as if I'm wearing my big brother's hand-me-downs (and I don't have a big brother). Those cap sleeves are much more proportional to the large number of women who are short and don't have long arms.

Designers: Please add more "Short" pant sizes. I may be a size 14, but I'm not 5'8". In that same vein, don't assume I'm a "Petite" size 14. I'm short, not tiny.

And while I'm at it...

Target: Your business would VASTLY GROW here in South Texas (where a large population of short Hispanic women live) if you took WalMart's cue and add short length's to your size selection.

Please use the same sizing year after year. A 4 should not fit a 2 or a 6 - likewise, a 6 should not actually be a 0.

I'd like to know what size I'm getting just by looking at the tag. Surprises aren't fun.

Not sure if any of you are plus sized but can you plus sized designers PLEASE STOP making shirts with big ole flowers or geometric prints or old lady designs???

I mean c'mon, it's bad enough that it's so hard to find any clothes for us bigger gals, but do they have to be so damn hideous? I am so sick and tired of wearing plain colored shirts with nothing on them. And trust me, you DO NOT want to see someone my size (or any size for that matter) in some of the prints that I see out there.

***and a side note for other larger ladies*** just because they make "cootchie cutters" as someone mentioned, in a size 26, does NOT mean you should be wearing them. They're only out to make money, trust me....they don't look good on you. LOL

I'd like to see summer-weight dresses WITH SLEEVES. We don't all have Michelle Obama's lovely arms!

Hitting at least almost to the knee (and I'm petite, so that's not a whole lot of length anyway!) would be an added bonus.

That's true of just about any sized garment. I think it's a really bad trend. And some of the colors are so ugly. Muted, washed out looking pastels are not flattering at all on me. :sad2:

Amen to that!! There should be some universal sizing because from store to store you could wear a different size and believe me if I go to store that sizes small I will not buy pants there, it makes me mental!! I've gone somewhere and bought 2 pairs of the same exact brand of jeans and had to take one back because it didn't fit!:confused3

I'm also chiming in for the longer shirts, I'm 5'10" with no bust to speak of but I have an abnormally long torso and I hate shirts that sit right at my actual waist. So I mostly buy t-shirts at Old navy where they are long but I'd like more options.:thumbsup2

Dear fashion designers,

Not everyone who is larger is blessed with a chest. It's embarrassing to feel like Sandra Bullock in The Proposal when Betty White goes on the "Easter egg hunt.."

Please stop doing the ruching the sides of my shirts, yes, I'm fat, everyone can see that, please stop drawing attention to it with giant ruffles!

Just because I'm larger, doesn't mean I want to look pregnant. Cut it with the baby dolls. No one looks good in them!

I'd also like to actually be able to buy something cute once in awhile. I hate shopping with someone else in the cute section, finding something I like, then heading down to the my section where I can't find it. Yes, I mean you Calvin Klein, Ralph Lauren, Ed Hardy and company! I know you make things in larger sizes...

If you say something is a 3x, please make it a 3x, not what an XL should be. I'm tired of finding something cute, FINALLY, and trying it on, only to find out a 3x is too small. :confused3

Can we stop making XXL shirts that could fit on a Barbie doll? (Yes Disney, this means you too!) Nothing is more maddening than buying something that SHOULD fit and getting home and it doesn't. Not all of us are twig people.

I know there's more, but dear clothing designers, I know you don't like to design for people my size, so I won't overwhelm you.

Sincerely,

A fat person in a potato sack because that's the only thing in my size Project Runway could make look decent.

Stop allowing *men* to design bras! Oh yes, MEN. I went to a website a while back searching for info on a particular bra I liked and saw an entire design panel made up of only men. How would they possibly know what's comfortable?

Another thing...make sizes all across the planet the very same. I get soooo tired of having to try on every single piece of clothing to see *if* it will fit. I'd love to see something I like, search for my size, grab and go without a bad surprise later at home.

Regarding the plus sizes - PLEASE, just because I happen to have a plus sized butt, it doesn't mean I have a plus sized stomach, which means every pair of pants I put on my body is waaayyy too long in the crotch. The only pants that will fit me are walmart, stretch waist jeans. Just lovely.

Not every shirt out there has to be cut down to your navel. I'm tired of having to wear a shirt under my shirt every day so I'm no "over-exposed".

Dear Residents of Michigan and Ohio,

I would like to apologize in advance that my cleavage will be on display this summer. I always try to keep it covered, really I do. Most of my v-neck tops can be layered with a higher neck shirt underneath.

But this summer I will be 6-9 months pregnant. Virtually every maternity top I can find is low cut. Even if it looks decent on a mannequin, it becomes low cut once it is straining against my ever growing chest. I'm sorry, Michigan and Ohio, but it just might be too hot this summer to wear two shirts at a time! So kindly glance away from me.

Thank you.

And F-you, designers.

~ A Mom in a Village :flower3:

Some women have hips, a waist, a butt and a bust. We're not all built straight up and down.

the reason that most clothes look like they are designed for a specific shape is because they are. they are designed on templates like this

2. Stretch jeans look great when I put them on at 7 am, not so great when I'm hitching them up every five seconds for the rest of the day. Could we make jeans that are less stretchy? I hate the way belted jeans look.

3. I don't not wish to put my 2-year-old and 4-year-old daughter in coochie-cutter shorts. Could we get some longer ones?

2 - look at the fibre content labels when you buy denim. most jeans need some stretch so that they sit properly on the body, but you can get jeans that are 98% cotton and 2% spandex. i've found that these retain their shape better.

3 - i completely agree. i hate seeing little girls dressed like mini prostitutes.

This.

And will more designers have pretty bras for those of us with large chests.

i somehow missed these posts...

we have set sizes in australia, but designers don't have to use them. also, sizes may vary due to quality control. each manufacturer will have a set seam length and then a measurement that it can be out by, like 3cm or something. generally speaking, the higher the market of the design, the tighter quality control standards will be. i'm currently studying fashion and we're doing a unit on quality control.

Designers: Please add more "Short" pant sizes. I may be a size 14, but I'm not 5'8". In that same vein, don't assume I'm a "Petite" size 14. I'm short, not tiny.

i'm a size 6-8 (2-4 i think in US sizing) and i cannot find pants that aren't too long. im 5'2" and the hems of some of my pants are really ratty. i can't wear heels with them anymore because the heel will probably go through a hole in thats about 2 inches above the hem and trip me up.
the pants with nice hems are my skinny pants and i always end up with huge bunches of fabric around my ankles.

Dear designers-

As someone who is 4'10" I must shop in Petites. I am also short waisted, so I cannot even buy shirts from the regular section as they far way too low. There is nothing more frustrating than seeing so many cute styles throughout the store and then finding nothing in the petite section. Not every short person is a grandma. And please don't tell me to go shop in the children's section- I'm pretty sure I'm too fat, and little girls don't have breasts or hips. I also don't understand how a pair of pants in the petite section should need 4-6 inches hemmed off?

Dear designers,

Please, for the love of god, get a standardized and required set of sizes. I shouldn't have to buy something and then return it because your sizing is screwed up. Why do I wear a 26 in Wal-Mart's jeans, a 4x at K-Mart, a 2x at Lane Bryant, and a 22 at Old Navy?

Also, Old Navy, GET A FREAKIN STOREFRONT IN MAJOR CITIES. There is NO REASON for you not to. I shouldn't have to pay return shipping because your sizing is nine kinds of crazy, even when I look at your sizing guidelines.

<3,
me

Dear Designers,

My 9yo daughter does not need "low rise" or even better, "lowest rise" jeans.

Thank you.

Dear designers,

Please stop putting those "shelf bras" in tank tops, especially in those above a size small. They are not providing any support.

Thank you.

Yes. I hate that extra, useless fabric that just gets in the way. I need to wear a regular bra, anyway, and I'm not large-chested by any means!

My biggest beef is all of the stretchy shirts out there. I can wear them but I'm not shaped perfectly and I don't need shirts that show every line in bras either. I miss the comfortable well-fitting 100% cotton shirts that used to be easy to find.

I also hate it that so many of the jeans have spangles and glitter and other nonsense on them. Come on, just give me a simple pair of jeans that don't sit at the waist or ride too low!
