What a STRANGE novel! Dean Koontz is one of my favorite authors. But I have to say, after finishing The Taking, I have to shake my head. So many questions were left unanswered. It was like he was taking the story in one direction, and then towards the end, changed his mind, and made the ending completely unrelated to the events that happened along the way.

Plot spoiler...back out of thread now if you have not read the book, and plan to.........

The whole story was based on ET's taking over the earth. Right down to their fungis growing all over the place. Yet, in the end it was God fed up with the human race, so akin to Noah's Ark, he sends a hovercraft to collect faces? The next day, the world is sunny and bright again, just minus a few million people. what was the purpose of all the fungus?

This is the 1st time I am tempted to write to Mr. Koontz with a list of questions. Why was Molly the chosen one, when it was Nick who had been a Priest? Did Nick's brother Paul survive? What was the purpose of all the headless copses?

Anyone else as confused as I was when you turned the last page?

I haven't read that book yet -- but, did you read Watchers? That's one of my all-time favorite stories.

Bumping from page three in case all the Dean Koontz fans were sleeping last night, but are here today. :teeth:

Don't know that the fungus had much more purpose than described in the book to take what it could from the earth.

I think Molly was the chosen one because she was the most pure of heart, even with a horrific childhood she was a very spiritual / giving person.

I assumed since the brother wasn't mentioned he didn't survive.

I looked at the headless corpses as people rising from the graves, and also the fact that it wasn't just God (or a good force) but also an evil one. Maybe many of the bad things were from the evil one who was given free reign with limits. I attribute the bad things that were happening to them.

Really not the type of novel I'd try to get too much spirtual meaning from. Good entainment as always, I do like Dean Koontz. My favorites are Twilight Eyes, Fear Nothing & Seize the Night. I don't think I've read all of his books but several. He has a new one published pretty recently.

Life Expectancy...I got that for Christmas, and finsihed it in 3 days! Loved it. It shows his sense of humor. I almost felt like I was reading a comedy. Lots of LOL moments.
