O.K. Since I've had my offer accepted on a BWV resale, I know will have two contracts, with two different use years. Now, my question is, is how do you deal with it. I'm going to have no trouble keeping track of the points, since I have DVC planning software, thanks Caskbill!! My questions arrise when I want to use both sets of points for a reservation. I know I have to wait until the 7 month window to combine points, but how is that done? Is a transfer made between the accounts? Does that mean I'm only allowed one transfer, since that's the rule? Can I transfer borrowed or banked points between the two accounts? I'll have 275 VWL points and 152 BWV points. Good enough for a week at VWL and 5 nights (Sun - Thurs) at BWV, during Magic Season our prefered season to travel. If I want to stay a week at BWV and only 5 nights at VWL, how is this accomplished? I'd appreciate any advice!!!!

In your situation - I would bank and borrow instead of transferring.

You bank and borrow enough points to stay a week at BWV and 5 nights at VWL.

then next year do the week at VWL and 5 nights at BWV - well maybe not all 5 nights you might have to make some of your reservation at 7 months with your VWL points.

Probably a stupid question but why do you have to wait for the 7 month window to use points from two different contracts? If , for example, you owned 100 pts in November and 100 pts in December use years.... wouldn't you be able to make a 200 pt ressie in January for use in the upcoming December? This is the first time I've heard this. Is this rule in the guidebook somewhere?

The use year makes no difference when you can make the reservation. All that matters is the home resort. You can use home resort points 11 months in advance. If you have two home resorts, you can combine them at 7 months but you can't combine them for an 11 month reservation.

It's actually easier than you think at the 7 month window to combine the points. The best way is generally to make what you can at the 11 month window then see if what you really want is available at 7 months. If not, worst case scenario is you move from one resort to another. Don't forget waitlists. All you'd have to think about transferring is the points for the odd night, not the points for the entire reservation. A typical reservation might look like this:
  • At 11 months you make 4 nights reservation at BCV and 4 nights at BWV using each contract (for example).
  • At 7 months you call and change to your preferred resort cancelling what you don't need.
  • You do not transfer any points or at worst you transfer the few straggling points to finish out the last night.
  • You possibly bank and remaining points.
And remember that MS will allow you to transfer banked or borrowed points in this situation if the need arises.

Thanks Dean, that's exactly what I wanted to hear. I don't need to transfer points between accounts, since I'll have enough on both contracts to book the applicable nights. In my case 7 at VWL and 5 at BWV. I'd just want to drop 2 nights at VWL and add 2 nights to BWV. Since we'll always be booking preferred view, there is no point differential. So at the 7 month window, I'll just call and have the nights adjusted.

We have 2 contracts but it is at least a little less confusing than your situation because they are for the same resort. We bought a March use year contract in addition to having already a June use year contract. I had to wait until June to transfer the points from the March contract into the June contract. Once I transferred (this is a one time thing - good for the year. I can keep doing this every year if I choose), I can bank those points, I just couldn't transfer any currently banked points. What they don't tell you is that the points you transfer really take on the rules of the contract you put them into. I.E., I put my March points into June, and they now are good through next June, not next March. Also, transferred points have NO banking deadlines.

I researched long and hard any reasons why not to transfer points, but could find none. I know alot of people just make a ressie with both of their contracts, and then combine the 2 ressies for a cohesive stay, but we were in the situation where we needed maybe 5 points from the other contract to make up a night's stay, because we were down to maybe 6 points in one contract. The 6 points on their own were useless unless I transferred them.

I hope this helps a bit. You are in a different situation with having 2 different home resorts, so that adds another layer of complexity. I just thought I would share what I have learned so far about my different U.Y. contracts.

Actually I believe it's easier if the home resorts are different for different use years but that may just be me. The problem with transferred points is that there are no guidelines to what happens other than the rules that they retain their original use year and home resort. And DVC can't even get that straight at the present time unless you force them to do it manually. They could interpret the banking rules anyway they wanted and I wouldn't be surprised if they have. I'm sure at some point a written rule will come out that addresses more of the issue. This is likely to occur at a point when their computers can actually handle it appropriately.
