My niece (11) has never been away from her mom for more than 3 or 4 nights, and we are taking her to WDW for 9 nights. She is worried about missing her mom - any hints on what we can do to help her???

Thanks...

Are there other children going along? When my daughter was 10 yrs old her grandparents took her to Disney. She had fun but since she was the only child there it gave her more time to think about home,so she did miss us. Has she ever been to Disney?
Maybe if she helps in planning she will be excited enough that she won't get homesick. Also if she calls home everyday she can talk to her family and know they are still there, this will probably ease her fears . Are you close to your niece? If you are there is a less likely chance of her becoming homesick. Once in WDW most kids forget home anyway!

Read my other post about "was I wrong to cancel niece and nephews" - so now it me, my husband, my 11 year old niece and my mom/her grandma. She is use to being around all adults, although she doesn't really think of me or my husband as adults when we go to Disney... My niece and I are very close, and she thinks that the one place she won't miss her mom as much is WDW. She has been to WDW once, and we got to DL all of the time. She just doesn't want anything to happen to her mom - her parents are separated, and her dad is not very reliable. We have taken her on camping trips to the Channel Islands, Grand Canyon and Joshua Tree, and each time she starts to miss her mom in the early evening. We usually take the trips when her mom is out of town as well so she will be busy, but she is a worrier. She knows it isn't logical, but...

I told her we will go to Epcot everyday and send an e-postcard, and she will talk to her mom once a day, unless the satellite link where her mom is staying goes down ( a remote resort on an island in Canada...my sister without cell service  ). We are going to buy her a Pal Mickey, and I though about buying her a travel picture frame with a pic of her mom and her kitty in it. I could get her one of those talking picture frames, or would that make it worse??? Any other ideas anyone?
