Dealing with a "Debbie Downer"

Hi all! Need to vent a bit. Have a mini vacation coming up Dec 18/15. Five nights in Orlando. My co-worker in my office ( just the two of us) is cutting up my trip on a daily basis! ie stupid to go for 5 nights, going to be cold and crowded and now with loonie falling I hear each AM, dollars down again! I don't talk about it much she just asked what I was doing on my trip. On the plus side only 3 more days of work!

I think we all have experienced Debbie Downers at work. So annoying! I guess I'm just thankful I'm not like that and remember that it might be coming from jealousy! Personally, I wouldn't tell her off or anything because when you get back from Disney you still have to work with old Deb! Maybe make it a game in your head by keeping count of how many negative things she says--set goals for her and see if she can achieve them! 5 comments? 10? Lol.

I think people that make those types of negative comments are jealous. Whether they know it or not.

Enjoy your mini vacay.....I just got back on Tuesday from a long weekend in WDW. The weather was glorious and I wish I could have stayed an extra day or two.

I don't agree with the comments that your coworker is just jealous. Her comments could stem from countless other reasons: she may dislike WDW. She may be a tightwad. She may have a real issue with crowds. Whatever her reason, her comments are ill mannered and rude. If it was me, the next time she brought up the subject I would probably say something like 'You've made your opinion clear already. I really don't care to discuss it further'. And then don't respond to any other comments on the subject.

Why do you care what she thinks? Is she important in your life? Is her opinion critical to your enjoyment? I suspect the answer to the previous two questions are NO. If so, enjoy your time. BTW - we just came back a few days ago and the weather was fantastic and we had a great time. You will too. Forget her.

I know all about needing to vent ,,I am stuck in a no win situation at work and for fear of recognition I say little. The other party is just nasty,uses sarcasm and is passive aggressive. I just can't always walk away because I am in the role of supporting kids. Sometimes I feel like I'm being bullied,,,yeah I know we only think kids do this but that is far from the truth.
Oh well only 6 months to go,,sorry to be venting when I should be supporting you,,So go and have a smashing great time--you deserve it!

I think the lady has a vacation problem. Only two more days!

That's tough to do if its a small office. I know where I work, its just three of us, and we are all in about 800 square feet of space....so if someone takes it upon them selves to flog a dead horse (about someone's vacation choices or otherwise), ignoring it just isn't possible.

grantclaire, I hope you have an amazing time!! We fly out the 19th, so we are right behind ya . Crowds, cold or lousy loonie be darned, we're going to be in Orlando and (like you!) I'm going to savor every moment. I hope your Debbie Downer doesn't totally zap your last-minute excitement. My two bosses don't share my Orlando obsession, but they definitely don't give me a hard time about it. Their running joke is that I only continue to work for them because I don't qualify for a green card (and they're half right ).

Well today was my last day at work and the saga ends on a good note! At the end of the day my work partner wishes me well and gives me a nice hug goodbye. She wishes she was going away as well but her husband keeps saying no. So that I guess was the whole reason for the negative comments. Weather is looking pretty nice for the next couple of days in Orlando!

Hmmm... let's see. The forecast for my neck of the woods is -1, -3, -2, etc... for the next several days. The forecast for Orlando is 23, 21, 22, 28... Not exactly my definition of cold, lol. Have fun.
