Deal gone sour!

The person the thread starter talks about is a good friend of mine and is really upset about this. First of all they have had to sell their DVC and for the past couple of weeks they have been very busy getting everything to The Timeshare Store. Disney did not buy the points back so they are now in the closing process. I know for a fact that she told the renter that she had forgot about the refund because she had been so busy trying to get everything faxed but also told her that she would take care of it with in a few days. She has just called me and was very upset because she had rec'd another call. I just want everyone to know that sometime people have a lot on their plate and things get pushed to the side. I just wish before everyone starts bashing someone that they stop and think maybe this person is having a real hard time right now and we should not jump to bash them. This is just my thought and I am not saying everyone has to think this way. So dont go flaming me. You all can think what you want but the renter should have listend to my friend trying to tell her she was sorry and that she would get it taken care of. I know she should have refunded the money right away I would have but there is no reason for people to be so rude.

Oh and by the way.....The renter has been refunded her money.

Thanks for listening.....The Friend.

There was money involved. The OP lived up to her end of the bargain and paid the deposit on time as directed. Your friend had her money and backed out of the deal. I understand that she is upset that she had to sell her DVC and that life gets busy but for the OP for that amount of time she is out the money, and not only that but any interest that the money might have gotten in their bank account. The money should have been refunded the minute your friend backed out of the deal. She was able to contact the OP that the deal was off but coudln't refund the money in the same time frame? Sorry but if money is to have been refunded it should have been done immediately. If I were the OP I'd be posting the exact same questions.

OUCH!!! I just sent a Paypal payment for my confirmed reservation to rent points/reservation in six weeks. I have a written confirmation in hand. Is this how it's usually done?

For those of you who have done this before, both renters and rentees, what did I do wrong and what should I have done? I guess I just trust people but have I been too naive?

I am sorry that your deal went bad. It takes a lot of trust to rent points to begin with and although time can get away from folks a refund of that much money should have been a priority.

On another note....
I looked at renting points and went to the DIS rental board. I was absolutely amazed at how many people advertising points for rent had less than 25 posts on the boards. Now...I know that having a lot of posts doesn't make you an honest person....but I have been on these boards for over 5 years now and feel much more comfortable with the idea of renting points from someone I have seen around. I don't know if we will ever go through with it or not....but I can tell you I won't be renting from someone with 9 posts - not saying of course that the OP did.

I'd be ticked too! I don't see where the OP names this person - so what's the renter got to complain about? The OP was wronged - she came here in frustration & for advice and got it. Hopefully, she has received the CC credit.

Just to clarify, a DVC member may use points to make a reservation and then rent that reservation to another person.

These are for DVC-resorts. It does not apply to the other Collections such as the Disney Collection.

Renting is perfectly legal for DVC-Resort reservations. However Renters are not entitled to member benefits. Maybe that's what some of the posters were thinking about?

Example: from my copy of the Multi-site Public Offering Statement (POS)

Section IV Member Benefits and Privileges
Part 3: Making Reservations for Non-Club Members
Section 2:
When a Club Member uses his or her Home Resort Vacation Points to reserve Vacation Homes on behalf of a non-club Member, and the Club Member does not charge any rental or other fees to the non-Club Member for the reservtion, the non-Club Member is eligible for all or some of the Club Member privileges and benefits that a Club Member would normally receive during his or her stay in the reserved Vacation Home. Member privileges and benefits cannot be extended to non-Club Members who rent Vacation Homes from Club Members.

Wow! I just popped over here to update everyone that I got my money back and couldn't believe one or two of the posts. For everyone who offered advice and understood my intentions, thank you.
Yes, I did get my money back and am very thankful for it. The person was very nice when I called them again today and the money has been put in my Paypal acct. I just wish I hadn't had to sweat it out.
I never bashed the person or named them in my post, so I have no need to apologize. I also never accused them of being dishonest. I just needed some advice on what I could do (just in case) because I was very concerned.
So, a happy ending.....

I would not have been as nice as you. I don't know where anyone gets that you were bashing anyone but I would have been bashing. You did not. I am glad you received your refund. I wonder if you would have if it wasn't for this thread.

Glad you got your refund. :) I would've been upset waiting for it too! You handled it well, IMO.

I don't know enough about renting points to feel comfortable doing it. Although I would like to try it one of these days. It looks like the places accomodate more people and have a larger space to relax. That would be nice. :) Guess I better keep reading about it!

Hope you have a great vacation, TexasErin!!

The OP didn't bash anyone, she was just speaking of her frustration.

Think about it this way-you're paying interest on a sum of money you paid out each month, yet your purchase has been cancelled. Wouldn't you want the credit back on your card as soon as you knew of the cancellation, so as to avoid interest fees?
