Dead Man's Chest Not for Little Ones

We took our children ages 7, 5,4, AND 2 to see it last night and they loved it!!!

Did you stay till after the credits rolled and see the special movie scene? That was just soooo cool!

I am really confused by the promotion of this movie. It is rated PG13...yet the Disney stores are chock full of kids stuff promoting this movie. Not 13 yo kids stuff, preschool kids stuff (toys, clothes, etc) And McDs Happy Meals are including POTc-DMC toys...

I am just not sure why they didn't tone it down for the kids or eliminate pushing it on kids if they want it to be for the older kids and adults...doesn't make any sense to me.

(fwiw, I have not seen it yet...but you see so many people asking if it is appropriate for young kids...why make a PG13 movie then?)

not sure about that, but am glad they have stuff for the little ones....my DD loves POTC and anything to do with pirates!! I think we have 10 McDonald skulls already!!

ETA - your last part....what's appropriate for young kids is relative....before I had children had I seen this I would have said no way.....but now, with my girls *well 1* loving the first one and love sJS and understands characters I think its fine....

My mom and sis went to the Thurs 12am showing and promptly called me and said NO WAY for the girls due to the beginning, neither DH nor I thought it was any worse than the first.

also..everyone is different...our first cruise...the couple at our table had a 4 year old who was not allowed to watch Peter Pan, Alice, etc for the fantasy value and were appalled to hear DD sat through HP....wonder who'll be in therapy?

POTC:DMC is a wonderful movie for adults... and kids over the age of about 12. DD6 really wanted to see this one, but NO WAY! Any movie with this many dismembered body parts is waaaaaay off limits for my DS. At 6yo he is no where near being able to process that sort of violence. I do not want him becoming anesthetized to violence before he even begins the 1st grade. The screening I attended had several screaming, crying kids... especially when we saw full frontal Kraken. Some of you prepare to getyour toes stepped on, but I was amazed parents would put their young kids thru that. There will be a price to pay down the road -if not now.

That is not my point. Of course all kids are different. I am just scratching my head at why a movie that is being marketed towards pre-schoolers having content that requires a PG13 rating. I mean, that is a step above PG...meaning parents are 'strongly' cautioned. It just does not make any sense to me. :confused3

makes no sense to me either - just thinking they are tryng to get the most bang for their buck? My sis and I are 10 years apart so I am sure there are plenty of families who had an older one who can see it relate to it and a younger sibling wanting what older sibling has!

I see your point. If someone is marketing a movie to children, yet you are supposed to be over 13 to see it, isn't there a bit of a problem here?

Now the scene after the credits was vintage Disney and very cute. Hysterically funny and worth the wait thru the credits to get to it.

My DS 7 went with two friends also 7 and loved it wants me to go see it so he can go again. He did not mention anything being scary in fact he said a lot of it was funny. All three boy said it was good and no one was afraid of anything.

I do not understand the veiled threat that the would be price to pay? for what letting kids see a well made, entertaining film? I guess they should see the poorly made, uninteligent, animated drivel on video. No thank you.

Ahh, thanks for the insight!

wow i guess my sister is just scared, but now that i think about it my DS loved it

I took our 9 and 6 yr. old today. I didn't think my dd (6) would have any trouble being afraid, but it was more frightening then the first one. I kept looking at her and she was fine. At one point I thought was scary she said to me "I wish this was in 3-D!" Afterward she told me it wasn't scary, because it's not real, MOM (duh!) but it was pretty gross.

:rotfl2: lol
Yes because all of us who saw PG-13 movies before we were 13 are evil! Evil I tell you! :stir:

My DS9 loved it but my DD11 thought it was gross. I would say it is definately not for smaller ones.

I haven't seen it yet either, but ITAWTC.

TOV

I thought it was a little strange that the Happy Meals were marketing POTC.

FWIW, my kids, 6 and 8, weren't scared by it, but we were at the Drive-in and that makes it a little less intense.
