So I have to share because I'm wondering if any other babies/toddlers have done this. DD is 2.5. She has never been a great sleeper. It took me about 7 months to get her to do a regular morning and afternoon nap on a schedule. She would go for months sleeping through the night and then vice versa. Anyway, what I have found interesting is that since she's been born (so three years now) about the end of April she starts not being tired at her normal bed time and we end up having her go to bed about 15-30 min. later in the summer hours. Her wake-up time is not affected. She can be up bright-eyed and bushy tailed any time between 6:45 and 7:45. Then, like clockwork, the last week of July/beginning of Aug. she just starts to ask to go to bed earlier.

Case in point, this week. We have had a busy and fun summer and there have been some nights we've gotten home late and she's not gotten into bed until 9:30. 9 has been her bed time all spring when in the fall/winter it was 8:20-8:30. Three nights ago she started asking to go to bed early when we'd go into her room to read about 8:40-5...when for a while in June she was resisting bed some nights. She's even been asking to go down for a nap earlier when all summer it has been "I don't want to nap" and even some times I'd lay her down fake-crying about not taking a nap and when I left the room and gotten down stairs, she'd be quiet.

When she was 8 months, first week of Aug., she started this going to bed earlier and then slept through the night consistently. Last year, I'd get through two pages of a book, she'd hop up, and say "night-night time" and now, same thing!

Anyone else experience this???? OR something similar????

It seems like her summer sleep patterns are being driven by the sunset times.

My daughter doesn't like going to bed at her bedtime during the summer because she can't get to sleep very well if the sun is still up. Her normal bedtime is 8:30 and during the summer the sun doesn't set until around 9. During the winter it sets around 6 or 7 so it is no problem getting her in bed at bedtime.

Yea, I wondered if it was a seasonal/light thing. But I guess I always remember going to bed when it was really light out so my perception from all those years ago may be off!
