In Feb 2012, we will be doing a room only reservation (3 nights) and only 1 day in the park (purchasing tickets sep.) prior to a Disney Cruise. I am curious to know if I can add the DDP to that room only reservation? If I can, does the DDP have to be added for all 3 days or can I just add it for one or two of them?

Thanks!
Datlene

No you can't.

DDP requires one of 4 situations:
  • Normal package purchase through WDTC (Walt Disney Travel Company) or an applicable travel agent. These packages include resort and tickets and a dining plan may be added on optionally. They also have the specific package rules ($200 deposit, 45 day balance due, and the specific cancellation policies). Dining plans may be added no later than 3 days from date of check-in.
  • Annual Passholder "ticketless" package purchased through WDTC (or applicable travel agent). These packages are available to AP holders only and must be booked with either AP rate or rack rate. This will allow you to add a dining plan without tickets. Dining plans may be added no later than 3 days from date of check-in.
  • DVC Points stay. A dining plan may be added to a DVC points-based stay without purchasing tickets. In these cases, the dining plan may be added no later than 2 days from date of check-in, but must be paid for in full whenever it's added.
  • Military Tickets. I don't know the ins and outs of these stays, suffice to say that under some circumstances it's possible to add a dining plan to a stay when utilizing military tickets without the requirements to purchase additional tickets. I believe that the standard package rules apply here as well though (deposit, balance due, cancellation, etc).

Can't be done. With the exception of DVC members booking through Member Services, all DDP reservations must be packages. You would have to convert the room only to a package to add DDP. If you are not an annual passholder or eligible for the military room discount, that would mean you must purchase park tickets as part of your room reservation package.

Under all current circumstances, DDP must be added for all persons in the room age 3 or over for the full length of the reservation. You can't pick and choose which days to add DDP or add a partial DDP without booking two separate room reservations.

The DDP is tied solely to the length of the room reservation and has nothing to do with how many days' worth of park tickets you have or plan to have.

Actually there is another special case where you can - with a military room only reservation because of the availability of the military tickets. We've done it before and are doing it in December. BTW I love the where's the beer pic!

ETA - did not originally see your military ref.

Those are packages. They are ticketless packages but are still packages, not room only reservations. Standard package reservation rules apply, not those for room only reservations.

The only guests who can get DDP without buying a package are DVC members.
