DDP: Smoothies/Shakes for Beverage?

Several people have posted they were able to get a milkshake or smoothie as their beverage on the dining plan. My question is, how do you know which restaurants will let you do this? When we were there a few months ago, none of our servers mentioned we could do this, so do we have to ask? Also, I've read other instances such as at Concourse Steakhouse, where you can get the shrimp add-on in lieu of an appetizer. Again, how are we supposed to know we can do this?

When you sit down to dinner tell your server you are on the dining plan. Ask them if there are any restrictions and what is included. Sometimes they will tell you if the smoothies and milkshakes are includled. If not, just ask. When we were at Wolfgang Puck I asked about the shrimp add on to the ravioli and was told that it would be covered under the dining plan. I still received an appetizer.

I think (hope) Whispering Canyon Cafe lets you get the bottomles milkshake as your drink option.... Milkshakes are almost as good as wine ;)

We just returned.

Smoothies/shakes were available and included at the following restaurants. We didn't have to ask at any of these restaurants. We were told when asked if we were using the DDP.

WCC
Sci Fi
Le Cellier
Boma
Ohana

Always ask...not included at Capt Jacks,Living Seas or Concourse. Coffee or tea were not included also at Living Seas..but was included at Concourse.

They are available, but you do not get refills at Le Cellier. We were not even able for our children (10, 12, 14) to get sodas after that, they had to drink water. Be sure to ask before you get one of these if they will let you get something else to drink after you are done with the smoothie/shake.

It must vary with the phases of the Moon. I remember before I went last year, people had said they were sometimes included--when we went, absolutely no restaurant included smoothies, and several didn't even let you get coffee! Strictly fountain drinks only.

It sounds like it might have loosened up again--maybe in compensation for some of the menus becoming progressively more limited since the inception of the plan.

We ate at 7 Ts and only Kona allowed anything other than soda/milk/tea. We had smoothies there and the information was offered by the server. At the remaining 6 we asked but no luck. Coffee was included nowhere, since we had ordered cold beverages 1st. We were charged each time we ordered coffee with dessert. Also, some places gave mild refills, and some did not.
