DDP Restrictions

Hi guys, I would really appreciate some help with a question we've never had to deal with before. Although, we've visited WDW twice, we have yet to use the DDP. However, the free dining offered this year with Disney UK was just too tempting, so we've booked SSR. I'm aware of the basic details of the dining plan, the CS, TS entree/dessert set-up, but I can't find any information regarding what is actually included in your meal. In particular, can I go into a restaurant and order any entree/dessert (except those meant for 2 to share) or are there restrictions on what can be ordered with the DDP?

In short, can I look at a restaurant menu and order any entree e.g. fillet mignon at Le Cellier or the "Canyon Skillet All-You-Care-To-Enjoy" at Whispering Canyon? I'd really appreciate any information you may have on any restrictions etc.
:)

There are very few restrictions. The only one that pops to mind is the sushi limitations at California Grill. Otherwise even the Lobster Tails at Cap'n Jacks and the Whole Lobster at Narcoosee's are all part of the plan.

Venny, are you going this year? If so, you probably won't get to eat in many places for dinner as they are totally booked.

Some restaurants need 2 credits per person to pay for the meal.

Venny from what I can gather, thru extensive research, there are very few limitations -even the whole lobster & the surf & turf! For meals designed to share you need to use 2 credits so they aren't off limits either.I hope to confirm all this when we go in a couple of weeks.

No, we'll be going September 2009, so we still have plenty of time to get the ADRs. :thumbsup2

Thanks for everyone's feedback, it's great to hear some info on this subject. It seems a little strange that all the information available on the DDP explains the TS/CS situation, but not exactly what is available in which restaurants. Speaking specifcally of holiday brochures for the UK, not a one has specified if there is a complete menu choice, which seems strange, as I'd assume that any non-Disney fans from the UK would know very little about WDW specifics.

From what you guys have said so far, the plan seems like it really could be great value if you're going to eat the expensive entrees. If anyone else has any more experience of any restrictions I'd love to hear it. One more query that has sprung to mind is that if you were to exchange 2TS credits for Hoop-
Dee-Doo, would you still receive the unlimited beer/wine/sangria, instead of the "single serving non-alcoholic beverage"?

When you go to Hoop Dee Do, if the standard is unlimited, then you will get that.

There are a few restrictions, and they change every year. If you would like, I can snail mail you the 2008 dining plan brochure after I get back next month. As long as you keep in mind it is subject to the whims of Disney, because things do change.

I like the DDP during free dining because I would normally only do one TS a trip, the free plan lets me do one per day. I have not ever paid for the DDP, so I don't know how good of a deal it is, but you are correct, if you pick the most expensive places and the most expensive items, you will probably realize a great savings.

They do not outline the restrictions because there are so few of them. The vast majority of the time you may order any item on the menu (children's menu for kids 3-9).

This thread

has a list of "restrictions" that have been observed by posters.

One restriction that I don't see listed on that thread is the cheese plate at Narcoossee's as a dessert. We didn't try to order it as an appetizer but I was disappointed not to be able to get it as a dessert on the deluxe plan.
