DDP - Please clarify booking procedure

I need simple simple terms - I am just not getting this whole thing......When we go in Sept 09, I don't know if I want to do one of these DDP's or not. Never have before but didn't really know about them. It is 2 adults and the kids will be 12, 10, 6 and 4 when we go. LOVE the idea of the refillable mug for drinks all day - we drink a LOT of water but is that convenient like you can refill it anywhere??

The biggest confusing part to me.......we don't plan to book our hotel until we see if the free DDP is offered for when we want to go which we won't know until I think April. If we wait to book a hotel, do we just call, book it and ask for free DDP or how does that work?

I have considered staying offsite due to the number of us and finding houses to rent cheaper but if we get food for free, staying onsite might be the way to go.

The refillable mugs are only refillable at your resort. They can't be used at any of the parks.

The dining plan has to be booked with a Magic Your Way Package. This would include your room, at least a 1-day base ticket per person, and dining plan. You cannot add the dining plan to a room-only reservation.
