Question? We are a party of two families. I understand the bill will be split and the 18% gratuity automatically added but divided between the two families.

We are on the basic DDP and want to leave the tip in cash. If the service does not warrant the 18% gratuity, could we leave only a 15% cash tip?

Thx!

You ought to speak to a manager and have the tip reduced.

To the op of this board, we too are in this same boat. While we are a family of five, parents are going with us, so we are over the 6 mark. What I was told from my ta is that it doesn't matter if we have two different ressie's, the fact that we are sitting together and the dining ressie was made at the same time we would be billed at the 18%. She also gave the advice of the other reply, ask to speak with a manager. In general this seems to work fairly well when its needed. My concerns are first since we are a bigger group that the wait staff will just do whatever since they already know their tip, and then second I really hope that I don't have to deal with complaining while on vacation.

Yes and no. If the service is downright horrible, drinks are not getting refills, extra ______ is never brought to the table as requested, then yes, talking to a manager is the best option. However, if you just feel 15% is better suited than 18% without any set examples, then sorry, but if falls under the category of being company policy.

When you use your DDP and there's an auto gratuity they end up giving you a seperate bill for the tip after they've run through the DDP credits. If you want to leave a smaller tip you would have to speak to a manager to have the bill adjusted. Otherwise, it's no different then receiving a bill at a restaurant for $50 and leaving $40 on the table.
