We are a family of 5 but my children DD14, DD13, and DD11 do not eat alot, we have always done the disney dining plan because we love eating at places like Yachtsman Steakhouse, California Grill, Jikos, Flying Fish, Citricos etc, you get the picture. Anyway, in the past these restaurants were always two table services and what my children did not use we would end up using. We would sometimes pay the kids meals out so that we would have the extra adult table services. This year on the Deluxe plan it just seems like way to much food, expecially for my kids to be eating on an adult plan, but the other plan doesn't offer enough. We will be staying at the RPC Grand Floridian and there will be food out all day long, but not enough to make a meal out of. I need help trying to decide whether I should book DDE which we have never done before, book one of the plans, or not book any meal plan and just wing it with what we have at our concierege. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. We will probably be doing a few character breakfasts as well.

If you are not going to buy the DDP then for sure get the DDE. DH and I bought it for the first time last month and it paid for itself by the end of the second day...and we are planning about 5 more trips before it expires so it is a great value

Love the DDE. I am happy that it now includes the tip...will require less brain power after my margarita at San Angel.

My family is comprised of Vegans and Vegetarians, which means often the food we eat is not as expensive...lus we are more likely to skip or split a dessert.

I think for a family of normal eaters, the DDP is a great deal and must be a lot of fun. But when we add up our receipts...we would not save with the DDP, we do with the DDE.

Last year the wine and drinks were included as part of the 20% off. I don't know if that is still how it is or not...but will find out this October. :drinking1

I am also a GO FOR THE DDE plan......we have had this card maybe four of the last six years of doing Disney and love the savings .....

You must either be a Florida Resident or have an Annual Pass (or both) to purchase the DDE Card.

Is the only way I can do the disney dining experience by being a florida residsent or having an annal pass. I didn't think that because a cm told me to inquire about purchasing one instead of doing the DDP

Yes. Details here. We've had a pass for years, always thought the DDP would be too much food, plus we do not like counter service that much. Now that the app is off of the TS, the DDP does not seem like as good a value (esp. when at a 2 credit place). DDE covers food, wine, parking.. and works better for us. FWIW.

We are annual passholders and have used the DDE since it became available to us. It has been a fantastic deal every year.

We have never done the DDP, but when I read about the amount of food included I get nauseous. I can't even imagine consuming that much food in the Florida heat or even in the cooler seasons. And now that the appetizer is removed, but the dessert is included, it really wouldn't work for us. We tend to like to share appetizers, especially salads. And we prefer to have dessert later in the evening, not right with dinner.

From the description of your family's eating habits and favorite restaurants, I think it would be worthwhile to buy one AP so you could also buy the DDE card.
