DDP/key to the world question

At check in I know we'll be given a room key (card) which is a key to our room, is our pass into parks, charging privileges and dining plan (if we get it). My question is we have a 7 yr old and a 4 yr old (and a 2 yr old who I understand will not get/need a room key), will they get a card too? So when we go into the parks we'll have to have all 4 cards? When we eat on DDP we'll have to have all 4 cards? Need all 4 for fastpass too!

If true, this seems cumbersome. Obviously I'll have to hold onto and keep track of the kids cards too. I know I sound lazy but my goodness more things to keep track of! Too bad all the information couldn't be contained on 1 or 2 cards that the adults/parents have. Oh well - at least we're going to WDW!

Your 7 yr old will need the KTTW to get into EMH. Your 2 yr old won't.

You'll have three KTTW with your room ID, tickets, charging privileges (you can suspend charging on the 7 yr old KTTW). For EMH and Fastpass you will need the three, the 2 yr old won't need anything.

Your 7 yr old will need to put his/her ticket into the turnstile.

Do like I do. I carry all the tickets for the family. Dole them out when we get to the turnstile, collect them again after we get through. My husband carries his own KTTW (no tickets on them). My son (13) carries his own KTTW (again, no tickets on them). He has carried his own KTTW since he was about 8 or 9.

Yes, your 7 and 4 year olds will need cards. It IS cumbersome, but they require park tix, and the card is where the tix are.

I went to one of the pin stores and bought a lanyard with plastic sleeve that's designed to hold the cards. It held our APs and room keys. The price was ridiculous ($10, I think), but it was very handy and we'll use it for years.

You following me around the DIS, Jim??? ;)

I carry the tickets in my fanny pack in the small zippered area right in the front. That way, they don't fall off, slip out, drop them putting them away. We usually have APs so they come in the small folder which helps keep them safe.

And, JJ&JSMOM, I missed the 4 yr old. He/she will also need the ticket for EMH, etc.

About the DDP though, you will only have to use one card to pay, not all 4, as far as I know. Just one less thing to worry about. :thumbsup2

Can people in your party use their card seperately for meals, if they order seperately, and then if we order together, we just use one card? Is this right?

Yes, Just becareful of which card you use. I have heard reports of some CS not allowing adult meals with a childs' card.

The specific card doesn't matter, really: All the credits are accessible from all the cards, unless you explicitly remove the ability to charge Dining Plan credits (entirely) from the child cards.

I had this happen to me at Maras. I had gotten the kids card mixed up and tried to pay with it and they refused to let me. (it wasnt a matter of charging privilages they saw it was a kid card and said no) I mean come on it isnt like it didnt have access and it isnt like I was a kid trying to get away with ordering myself an adult meal. (although my then 6 year old was standing with me and I was may have been only getting one meal.) And really I had already ordered the food and touched it. BUt I did have my card with me too so rather than let them know how stupid it was I just used my card.

It really wasnt that big of deal Having cards for everyone. If it was just their park tickets and not a room card you would still be keeping up with the 4 park tickets on top of the adult cards. Just look at it as there park ticket. We picked up id sleeves that are made to clip onto lanyards at Office Depot. We had some lanyards but I picked up more at an Orlando Wal mart where they had disney ones for 3-4 dollars. The sleeves would get stretched out but since they came in a pack of like 10 they were replaceble. It also makes a nice way to carry any fast passes. I carried my dd's card and my hubbs carried my sons. I'd just tuck the lanyard in my shirt on rides. We are pin traders so we were going to be wearing lanyards anyway. We also put our drivers liscense and Credit card in there so no purse or wallet to carry along. The kids also wore lanyards for their pins and we put a little home made id for them in theirs just incase we got separated.

I'm not sure I understand. If I go into an eatery and touch food, and don't have any valid way to pay for the food with me, are they supposed to give me the food anyway? :confused3

I didn't read Beth's post as saying she was trying to avoid paying -- just that they said, nope, wrong card.

Okay, I guess I misunderstood. I suppose my confusion was why there would be any concern about having to producing the guest's own (valid) card for payment. :confused3

We carry all our KTTW in a lanyard like Jim and Beth. DH is in charge of that because I lose things. It is nice to have them all together for the Fastpass machines. Anyhow, sometimes I will take a card and go get one child a snack or something. I need to double check to make sure I grab the correct one. Not a problem, but it is something that it is good to be aware of.

Also to the OP- if your 2 year old is anything like mine were they will want their own card because everyone else has one. Ask for a blank when you check in. That way there are no worries if it gets lost.

Definitely good advice. :thumbsup2

Also, I think the argument was more that if she hadn't already touched the food she could've argued the situation and just had them take the food back if they didn't come around- but having already touched the food she was stuck with it one way or the other so she just gave up and gave them the other card?? (I could be totally misunderstanding this, though.)

My point was that since all the credits were pooled and I was an adult ordering an adults meal, and my kid could have ordered her meal and paid with my card I didnt understand why it mattered which card I used to pay. If I didnt have another card with me they would have had to throw the food away and make me a new plate when I came back with another card. So a lot of places would have atleast tried with the kids card. But I had the other card so there was NO DISCUSSION on the matter. I just paid and left. I wasnt trying to get something for nothing nor was I trying to say I should. Just the fact that they would have to throw the food away and the fact that I'm pretty sure if he had swiped it without looking at the card it would have went through just fine. I was just alerting readers to a first hand experience that it had happend to me. The only reason I even brought it up was since someone stated that it wasnt true that you had to have the adult card. I dont know what the 'rule' is or if there is even a rule or suggestion about which cards can be used for what. BUT like many other things the restaurants seem to be able to decide it is neccessary so it is a good thing to be sure you have an adult card.

thought i'd add....
I never really thought the whole issue out since i had another card. Just thought how stupid and never made the mistake again. I did think i had valid payment the didnt, so I guess they could have said you touched it you have to find a way to pay for it and made me call hubbie back down or whatever....I just wasnt interested in worrying about it at the time or now. Tired though of bickering with bicker lol lol lol.

Yup, okay, that's what I thought you were saying. :thumbsup2
