I don't know whether the server can cash in Disney Dollars at the end of their shift, but I prefer to leave my tips in cash, just so they don't have to.
I wouldn't tip a restaurant server with a restaurant gift card, or a
WalMart gift card, or a coupon for an oil change, so I won't tip with Disney Dollars, either.
I gotta say, I don't really get the love people have for Disney dollars. If they are the same thing as US dollars, they why not just take US dollars? It seems like complicating something simple just to have Mickey on it.
Disney Dollars are primarily intended for use by kids. You haven't lived until you've given some Disney Dollars to a kid you love and seen their face light up when they spot the Disney characters on the notes.
As for adults, well, I used to use Disney Dollars to save for my trips by buying some each payday throughout the year. I've been trashed by a lot of people as a fool for doing this, since my money "sits uselessly and doesn't earn interest", but unfortunately, I have no monetary self-control, and if I put my money in a savings account, I'd spend it.
These days, I use a Disney Gift Card instead of Disney Dollars, because the DGC is a lot easier to carry and can be replaced if lost or stolen, so long as you have your original receipt.
Not sure if CM's can trade the DD for cash after their shift, but if you wanted to trade in your DD at a
disney store for cash you would need your receipt. I have worked at Disney Store and we required a receipt for returns on DD.
Yes, and there is a limit - you can only cash in $80 in Disney Dollars at a time.
