DDP Cost for Point renters

Hi,
I'm renting points for a stay in Jan. The guy I'm renting from has been great, but I don't want to be one of those annoying renters pestering him with questions (he's already changed reservations for me). So I'm hoping I can get an answer from you veterans.

I hadn't even been considering the DDP, but I'm second guessing my decision now. Would it be $40 pp per night to add the DDP? Also, would we pay Disney directly or would they charge the point owner and I'd pay him?

While I'm at it, please let me know how you feel about DDP. Does it help or hurt your budget? One of the benefits of the villas is the kitchen...but who wants to cook on vacation?

roughly that, yes.

the owner has to add it in advance (at least a few days before you arrive). you pay at the resort, though.

While I'm at it, please let me know how you feel about DDP. Does it help or hurt your budget?

it doesn't work for me...but it depends on how you use it.

It is about $40 per adult and about $10 per child (ages 3-9)

Have the prices and specifics of the DDP even been released for 2009? There are rumors of some changes, and a new Counter Service meal plan, but as far as I know, nothing official from Disney for 2009.

oops. yeah, it'll probably be similar (unless they drop the price a dollar and take away the appetizer or something... ) but keep an eye on the DDP board to see what's up with the 2009 dining plan...

yes- the prices are out- all of the 2009 prices (rack rates on rooms, packages...) came out yesterday.

29.99 adult for the cs plan

39.99 adult ddp

Here are the prices for 2009 from the DIS DDP board:

Quick Service Dining
Adult 29.99/Child 3-9 8.99

Dining Basic
Adult 39.99/Child 3-9 9.99

Dining Deluxe
Adult 69.99/Child 3-9 19.99

If you go to the DDP board, you will see another thread which has links to each plan brochure.

To me, it looks like the Quick Service plan came in somewhat higher than it should have, and the Adult Basic plan went up $2 per person per day.

Those numbers clinch dining exclusively offsite for us again this year, but we actually prefer the better food and lower prices offsite anyway, so it's no loss for us.

We probably don't save a whole lot of money eating offsite, but we eat much better. We're really tired of the same old stuff with different names at every Disney restaurant.

Here's how I figured it - we stay in a one or two bedroom every year for our family vacation. Went this past May/June for twelve days in a one bedroom with four of us. If we went on the dining plan, it would cost $152 per day or $1824 for twelve days. I went to the Walmart Supercenter in our rented car, spent $214.00 on enough food to prepare a quick meal each day, have breakfast, lunch, snacks, beer, pop and water. Car rental was $34 for the day = $246.00. We ate out twice at a cost of $160.00 (have to do the Whispering Canyon each trip - lunch is cheaper, and tried the Crystal Palace lunch as well), so our food was a grand total of $406.00. Saved us $1418.00 plus gratuity, and I didn't even spend half of that on souvies or entertainment. Plus, we could come and go as we pleased without running to the next dinner reservation.
I know you said you don't like to cook on your vacation, but every day some 'down time' is necessary, so why not cook up some pasta or fry up some hamburgers after getting back from the pool before you head out to the parks? Just sharing what we do, hope it helps!

Looks like you already have the answers you need regarding the pricing, etc...
We are folks who really like the DDP. Like you mentioned, the last thing I want to do on vacation is cook. When I compare the price of the DDP for a week vs. the amt. of money that I spend on groceries per week, the cost seems ridiculous, however, we go on one vacation/year and I enjoy eating out every day. We budget ahead and find that financially it really works out well for us. If you go to the DDP board I am sure you can find more info. regarding whether or not it may or may not be cost effective for you.
