Starting 1/1/07, the adult points and the child points are now seperate when using the DDP. When using table service points, we must now seperate the checks, one for adults and one for children and then ring them through the computer and deduct the points based on the meals ordered.

I have not heard if this has changed for counter service points also.

Does the receipt specify the number of adult and child TS credits remaining or does it just show the total number of TS credits?

Good to hear your report from the front line of servers, Suzanne. Does it make your job easier since the rules are so much clearer?

Yes, the receipt states how many adult credits are left and how many child credits are left. As of last night, we had to split the kids meals onto a seperate receipt so you will sign two receipts if you have kids on the plan buth they are suppose to be working on that. Don't know how counter service or snacks work.

We've never had a huge problem where I work but we do have to run more receipts now spliting the adults from the kids until the next computer update.

Ok, thanks, I started reading that post but got a headache!

I agree. I stopped reading after the first page and once in awhile pop onto the last page only to wish I hadn't!

It is good to hear what is actually happening.:thumbsup2

Even the title of the thread is positive and informative. Please keep us up to date, Suzanne.popcorn::

Thanks for the posting. Seems pretty simple and not the huge fallout/change that was being predicted.

I'm not sure what folks were expecting. If both sides of the reports of this change are true -- that they're keeping folks honest with regard to total number of adult meals for the week, AND for each meal-period, that's pretty much the most extreme approach I think anyone speculated could occur. Were there other changes folks though would be coming down the pike?

Personally, I think keeping folks to just one meal per meal-period is going a bit further than I thought they would.

One meal per meal period is a bit more extreme than I thought would happen as well. I am still curious how this will effect things like my DS who will often drag my DH out one night to go to DTD and they usually hit the Earl of Sandwich using up two more credits and enjoying some "bonding time" of course the result and end out come of this is priceless so no biggie for me to pay out for a few sandwiches and soft drinks. I just didn't think of how ohter people abusing the system would put such restrictions on those of us following the rules--I know I should have!

Does anyone know if they will still let you pay OOP for kids at signature restaurants while the parents use the DDP? I'd rather use the kid's credits for them towards other meals rather than wasting up 2 credits at once for a small kiddie meal.

If this system change gets fully deployed and is effective, you "should" be able to pay OOP for them at the Signature restaurants, and use their credits for other child meals elsewhere. However, there may be some CMs who aren't aware that the system changes make previous more manual efforts unnecessary.

I've often thought the DDP was Disney's attempt to compete with the cruise lines and all-inclusives for the family business. They're welcome to run the DDP any way they want. But --- on a recent cruise on Royal Caribbean, my friend's nine-year-old ordered from the adult menu at every meal. He's a budding gourmet and loved every minute of the dining experience -- relishing snails, clams, duck, lobster, cold fruit soups, and the like. He can't wait until they cruise again. Never was there any problem with him ordering anything and everything he wanted from the adult menu.

At WDW, with the DDP, she'd obviously have to buy him the adult dining package. She paid $149 plus tax to add him to her cabin for a 7-day cruise. To add him as an adult on the DDP would be approximately $280. Plus, she has to add in the 7 day ticket price where many kids activities were already included with the cruise.

I suspect they'll do a cruise next summer. Sorry, Disney!

I think the Dining Plan is simply a promotion to encourage more guests to stay on-site and not seek dining off-site. The Premium Plan is more along the lines of Disney's attempt to compete with cruise lines and all-inclusives.

That is what I said "simple".

People were speculated that the whole group would all have to eat at the same time, same restaurant or not at all. And since they are only three days into the change time will tell if Disney keeps it to one meal per-meal period, (what ever that means) which it does not state in the 2007 brochure, but, does say you can save credits and pool them.

FAQ sheet;

Q. Must I use exactly 1 Table Service, 1 Quick Service and 1 Snack each night of my package stay?

A. No, for maximum flexibility, meal entitlements can be used whenever you like during your package stay. For example, one night you may wish to hold off using a Table Service meal then the following night use 2 Table Service meals to dine at a Signature Restaurant or Dinner Show.

You know this can be argued until everyone is blue in the face but Disney is going to do what they want. Personally, I think that the DDP will continually change over time.

ETA: I don't know anyone in FL. so ordering more meals than what I need is not a problem for me. None of it is a problem for me actually.

Or should--since it directly contrasts this statement:

Sounds like if I was a solo guest on the dining plan, and I used my CS credit for a breakfast sandwich but was still hungry and tried to get another, the computer would prevent me from doing so, despite the FAQ stating that you can use your credits "whenever you like."

Mind you, I don't really believe the computer program will be that sophisticated for CS meals, but we'll just have to wait and see. Like others have said, in trying to prevent abuses by a few, they're making the DDP very cumbersome and difficult to use for many.

I think the problem occured when more guest dined than was on the plan. I think you will still be able to get a second counter service if yu are by yourself and a little time has went by. I do not think it is possible to want 2 table service meals at once. I can barely eat one counter service by myself.
My daughter and I shared one table service each meal. We stil did not eat every bite.
BTW, she is 20yrs young.

I agree. I think the adult usuage of child's credits especially for TS meals was the main problem.
