DDP- can u switch table service meal for quick restaurant meal if needed?

You can pay for a quick service meal with a table service credit. I wouldn't do that often, though, you won't be getting the value that you could for that credit.

So u save tip and make it convenient with no wait times .. any advice??

I m looking to do about 3-4 character dinning of 6 days .. the difference in quick service plan and Disney dining plan is $ 300. Which would make it worth it if I did 4 character meals.. so the other 2-3 credits would help save me tip as well

A TS credit is easily worth $35-$50. A QS credit is worth $15-$20. You're losing money if you paid for DDP but get QS meals. Better off either skipping DDP and paying OOP or getting the QSDP instead. IOW's why pay for DDP if it ends up costing you more than OOP?

4 Character dinners = $140. 2 QS dinners = $30. 6 QS lunches = $90.
Snacks = 12 * 5 = $60
Total OOP = $320
DDP plan for 6 days = $453

While I agree with you, your prices are a little low. Character DINNERS are all in the $50 range these days, so 4 of them will be $200. If you then add in the alcoholic drink that comes with DDP even at buffets, that's another $40-50. It's also much easier to hit the $20 range for QS, if you're drinking alcohol at those meals too, so 8 QS meals could be closer to $160. If OP is planning on alcohol at all meals, they will come much closer to the price paid for DDP.

I don't think subbing QS for TS is the best use either but unless I'm missing something I think your numbers are off. Tax is covered with the DP so I'll add the 6.5% for that.

Say the OP ate dinner at Chef Mickey's Tusker House, Garden Grill and Akershus I have a total of $202.32 for an Adult after taxes. Add in an Adult Beverage of $9-$18 (let's say $14 on average) and that's $258.32.

For QS if they ate at say The Polite Pig for lunch the Cedar Plank Salmon or BBQ Ribs and a mixed drink would come to $37 with tax. Throw in the Combo Bowl and a Large Beer at Satu'li Canteen and that's another $28 with tax for a total of $65.

We'll keep the QS lunches at $90 but throw in another $9 per for an adult beverage plus the tax and we get $153.36. Brings us to

Total $476.68
Snack $60
Refillable Mug 18

Total $554.68

The above is of course for an Adult with drinks included. This is assuming the OP will indeed order alcohol with their meals. If not this plan becomes much less attractive.

LOL posted at the same time :-)

Are you asking about changing plans altogether? Or purchasing the DDP and instead of eating at a TS eat at a QS? I would not eat a QS meal while you paid for a TS meal. First of all I don't even believe the dining plan saves any money anyway. We pay less each trip paying OOP and we eat at character meals. I figure it out each trip and the dining plan would never save us money.

That said if you would rather the QS plan then get it. But I would get no plan at all and eat some meals character meals and some QS and you will save money.

The dining plan is a constant debate - there are people on both sides. I just see it as a convenience - you pay in advance and don't think about it. The issue is that it is not made to save you money but to guarantee guest spend so much on food.

Sorry for the long explanation. I hope it helps.

Trust me, I am with you in that the dining plans will probably NEVER save my family money, but as Cramden and I show up thread, the addition of alcohol to the plans now makes it very easy for a family of just adults to save money. Even OP's plan to eat a few QS meals can be a cost saver, but ONLY IF you drink alcohol with your meals.

Add in a kid or two, and the adults don't have to drink alcohol to save money, but the savings increases if you do.

No alcohol for both of us..

Hmmm...are you 2A,2K or 3A,1K? Are you paying full price for the dining plan or upgrading from free QSDP? If you're not drinking alcohol and you're paying full price with just one kid, you may need to run the numbers. If you'll tell us where you plan on having those character meals and which meal, we'll help.

2A2k - 2 n 9 yr old

A 2 year old wouldn't even be on the dining plan and can eat free at any AYCTE meals.

Well, with no alcohol and using averages, I think the adults will "lose" about $50 each. So if you think you can make up $100 with the one kid on the plan, go for it. If having it paid for ahead of time has value for you, then go for it. It sounds like you've already decided to anyway and just needed to know you could use the TS for QS meals. You can, so, hope you have a great trip!

The Dining plan is about $75 per adult plus tips. Even with a character meal that costs about $50 and a CS that costs $15 - your total without snacks and refillable mug is $65. So you could break even if you drink soda and don't have alcohol. If you change one TS meal to a CS meal - you will lose a lot of money. It is so not worth it at all for us - even if we do character meals each day - we don't drink alcohol and don't drink soda. It really depends on your situation.
