DDP Beverage Entitlement Question?

Hello Everyone! I had a question about usage of the "non-alcoholic beverage" entitlement that is included with both the Counter service and Table service. Not the snack credit. For example, with the Counter service, you would get 1 entree, 1 desert and 1 nonalcoholic drink. Can you use it for something other than soda? Such as a frozen lemonade or coffee? is it any non alcoholic beverage? and would you still be getting desert?
If any of you have done this, what are some scenarios that have worked for you? And any other information and tips would be very appreciated!

The drink entitlement has usually been restricted to the non-specialty type drinks at both TS and CS locations. This usually covers soda, iced tea, coffee, and other drinks that come from the fountain (I often think of it as, drinks that you get free refills – this is not the official policy but it has worked as a pretty good rule of thumb). Drinks like the frozen lemonade or specialty coffees (e.g., espressos) are unlikely to be included, but there is often variability between restaurants. Your best bet to get specialty drinks are at the Disney owned restaurants – like Whispering Canyon Café has often allowed the milk shakes as part of the DDP. The best policy is to ask at each location about the drink you are interested in.

Non-alcoholic beverage usually means fountain drinks such as soda, coffee, tea, lemonade, bottled water. It may or may not include something like a frozen lemonade - just ask at the restaurant.

At CS restaurants you will get an entree, beverage and dessert. If there's no dessert item on the menu you usually get something else. For example at one of the turkey carts it was a turkey leg, drink, and a bag of chips because there's no dessert on the menu.

At the TS restaurants operated by Disney they often allow milk shakes or smoothies as well as the above mentioned fountain drinks as the beverage option. None of the plans include the light up drinks.

The non-Disney operated TS restaurants are far more strict because they are reimbursed by Disney according to the limitations of the dining plans. Many of the specialty beverages are not allowed because they are more expensive than the typical fountain drinks which are around $2.50 - $3.

It definitely varies by restaurant. Other than the well-known milkshakes at Sci-Fi, we were allowed to get virgin pina coladas & strawberry daquiris at Captain's Grille. CS it was usually whatever drinks they had available. Generally at the TS your servers will let you know what your options are.
