As per the DDP brochure - an 18% gratuity is automatically charged for groups of 6+ people. So if our family goes for a TS meal (7 on the rez; incl an infant & 2 year old who obviously don't have DDP) - would we get that auto charge? Just curious.

Reading other posts and message boards leads me to answer yes, you would be charged the auto tip. They count every body at the table. I know it doesn't seem right to charge for babies but it has happened. Be prepared for it. And if it doesn't happen you would tip the same or more, right?

I also believe the answer is yes. The 2 year old will likely have a drink brought to them and a plate to clear unless you plan on hauling all of their needs in with you, so the server will be taking care of 6 eating people whether the 2 year old is officially on the plan or not. Have a fantastic trip!

Yes, they do this for a head count of 6, even if a couple of the heads are small.

We're a family of 6, so we're used to it. The most important thing is to make sure that whoever is settling the bill knows that this charge is already in there, so you don't double-tip. We never argued with the amount, although I've heard that you can if you have lousy service. And of course, you're free to add more if you feel it's warranted.

I think it's a bit high, but everything at WDW is, and it didn't bother me enough to make a fuss. I'm used to it costing us lot when we eat out (so we rarely do it at home).

Thanks.

And yes, we didn't realize that places do this so we had actually double tipped several times!!!!! Now we know better to double check the receipts :)

18% isn't an outrageous amount to be tipping in general; although DH will not be happy if the service is poor!! I said heck we will be at Disney - everything is going to be awesome!!

Yes, you will, as you are a party of 7. Infants and toddlers count as people as far as restaurant reservations are concerned.

There is a sticky thread on the main dining board for all tipping discussion. Please read the first post of that thread as it has a tipping FAQ and an explanation as to why all tipping discussion is limited to that thread.
