Can you order a salad or a soup if it is not listed in the appetizer section when using the Deluxe Dining Plan? Or must we order directly from the appetizer section of the menu??

Depends on the specific restaurant. Some people have been allowed to, some have not. All you can really do is ask when you get there.

In general, you can get a non-entree soup or salad as your DxDP appetizer. While there may be some exceptions, it's generally safe to assume you can do this.

I have ordered soup as an appetizer at Yachtsman, Liberty Tree Tavern, Sci-Fi, and Prime Time Cafe and some form of salad at Yachtsman and California Grill. I'm not sure if any of those were listed as appetizers or something else.
