:confused3 In speaking with a cast member today I discovered that my now 10 year old is booked as a 9 year old on our plan. That was not my intention when I booked, and I thought I was clear with the original cast member that she would be 10 at time of travel.

The cast member today indicated that I could upgrade her for $135 if she wants to eat off the adult menu, or I could keep it as is since she was 9 at time of booking.

WWYD? She likely will eat off the kids menu most of the time, our ADRs are for: 1900 PF, Ohana, Coral Reef, Boma, Sci-Fi, Akershus, Wolfgang Puck

in making those ressies if asked an age (I think we are?) I would have indicated 10 & 14 for my daughters.

If I don't change anything, how will that affect our plans? With our final payment date creeping up, another $135 will be squeaky, but the cm said I could make the change within 3 days of arrival.

Experts?

Thank you!!

New thought - we are booked through free dining...

Technically, she should be booked as an adult because of her age.

That said, morally you've done the right thing in pointing out the error. If a Disney representative is giving you the option to leave the error in place (and even more so, suggesting it), then I don't think there's a moral issue. Just treat it as an unadvertised discount offer.

That leaves you the decision about whether or not this "discount" makes sense for your situation, as it comes with a restriction on the kinds of meals that can be ordered.

You need to upgrade her because she isn't 9, she's 10. Because you have free dining, the price won't change. But you need to buy her an adult park ticket.

She can still order from children's menus if that is what she prefers.

Thanks for your feedback, I actually called back because it wasn't sitting right. I upgraded her theme park ticket for a whooping $35 (maybe I misheard the first cm)

So no worries - for the 7 days she will be a disney adult and eat what she pleases :) and I know I've not done anything sneaky.

Thanks!

When you arrive at your ADRs, the CM checking you in will ask her age. When you answer 10, you'll be charged adult credits. The CM may agree to list her a child because of the mistake made by the booking CM, but even if only 1 CM doesn't agree then your plans for your dining credits are all messed up.

I wouldn't want to take a chance. I'd be too stressed throughout my whole trip and it would definitely take away from my trip experience. I'd definitely upgrade her.

Like TDC Nala said, you should only be charged the difference between a child and adult ticket for the upgrade since you're going during free dining. A 10 day MYW adult ticket costs $279.03 with tax and a 10 day MYW child ticket costs $254.54 with tax so it should only cost you $24.49 to upgrade her. I have no idea where the CM got the $135 figure.

ETA: I just saw you posted while I was typing. It's good to see you got it taken care of. Whew!

Also I think you can pay OOP if she wants to order a kids meal somewhere.

You could then save the adult CS credit to use for an extra meal somewhere else or a 2 TS meal.

Thanks again! Yes, it would worry me over the course of the trip, especially over such a small cost!

Love the idea of paying oop for a kids meal to have 'extra' TS meals - is that widely accepted or frowned upon? (Or was that another can of worms!)

Love having this board! So much GREAT information!

I do it all the time. You can pay cash for whatever you would like. Disney would love taking your money.:lmao: My DS is 2 so he eats "free" at the buffets. However, I tend to purchase him a child meal at other places because he eats so much. I will also purchase him a child counter service meal even though he is not on our dining plan since he is so young. Some meals are large enough to split but for those that aren't we pay. I know we paid OOP for him at Coral Reef, among others.

Have fun! Good job for doing the right thing BTW!

I just made the decison to pay the $35 and upgrade my DD who will be 7 on th trip to adult dining. We are also on FD, and she is an adventurous eater. When she doesn't want an adult meal, I plan to pay OOP for a kids meal and save her credits.

Be aware that some TS meals will NOT let you order a kids meal if they are indeed listed as an adult on the plan. It changes tip amounts...etc. We ran in to that a couple of times when our oldest were considered 'adults' by Disney but wanted the kids meals. I'm sure many CMs wouldn't have an issue with it, but we did run in to it a few times....one very memorable one was Whispering Canyon.

I also upgraded for my upcoming trip taking two nieces one 6 one 8. I'm not on free dinning I am on bounceback but the upgrade was only 35$ more per child for length of stay. I don't know that you will have a problem in my booking its noted that the girls are 6 & 8 but that they are on adult dining. I was told because their actual ages are noted that I would still be able to book them for char meals as children but they will have to eat the childrens meals at those places. Also that since they are on dining plan they can choose off the adult or childrens menu. I think it all comes down to how its worded on your tickets. My tickets clearly show everyone's name and age but then notes 4 adults for dinning.
