Ddp 09- Rumors Of Changing

I hope they kill off the basic plan in total.

Then maybe the restuarants will start having better choices again.

I called last week to try to get a couple more ressies for June; the operator was incredulous that I wouldn't want to add the dining plan.

Critical mass of sense has not been reached, yet.

i also wish they would get rid of this dining plan. i have noticed the shrinking food choices and feel that the quality of food being offered is not the same it once was. i do understand this plan is a boon for those who regularly use it.

IMHO i feel that it has had a domino effect on those who dont use it i was shocked on our last trip that at mama melrose that bread was not given to you while you waited for your food/appetizers. i asked the waitress about this and she told me that it was a recent change. not so shockingly was that while looking at the appetizers there was Artisan Breads and Spreads. when i saw this i was a bit upset and told the waitress that even at our local diner we are given rolls and breadsticks and that bread at the dinner table has always been a staple of any Italian dinner that i have ever eaten. i asked for the manager and told him how i felt. i told him of the little changes that has slowly been creeping into all of the menus since the inception the DP and voiced my unhappiness. i asked him if this was going to continue and he gave me a vague answer.i told him that i realized it is not his decision and that i apologize for my giving him a bit of a hard time. he thanked me and did tell me that he has been receiving many more complaints especially from guests who have been traveling to WDW for a long time.

It'll be interesting to see if they ever offer FREE dining again in the future. Food isn't cheap anymore.

My guess is they'll nuke the free dining offers and go with deeper room discounts - with maybe a free ticket thrown in.

As for Disney food and the DDP in general, I'd expect to see higher prices and smaller portions in the future. Which wouldn't be a terrible thing. A ton of those large (often mediocre) portions ends up as a sad waste of food. And maybe it'll improve the menus. I'd rather have a larger selection with a smaller portion of good food than a limited choice and a heaping plate of blech.

As an aside - we've been eating in Disney restaurants for thirty years, and we KNOW the food and food choices have gone downhill. WAY downhill. We haven't done a dining plan in years, and we don't plan to do it again any time soon. Even for 40 bucks a day, it isn't worth the price - or worse, what it's done to the food.

Just curious as to where you were getting these "large" portions? Seems portions are getting smaller and smaller, and I never, in our 20 odd years of traveling to WDW, recall particularly large portions......

We've usually seen most of the servings at the table service restaurants as plenty large enough for more than one person - usually enough for two. Last fall at Marrakesh, I ordered the lamb shank - it was HUGE. Enough for all four of us. It was large enough that we actually laughed about it. It wasn't as tasty as it has been in the past, but it was BIG - so a good bit of it was wasted. I'm not judging from one experience. We've OFTEN seen the same thing over the past few years in other TS restaurants as well. Plates of pasta big enough for a small army - with a salad large enough for at least two people. Breakfast platters (or skillets) with enough food for three. An adult lunch of macaroni at Chef's that would have easily fed two+. And on and on...

I doubt these oversized servings will continue for long, though. They're probably shrinking as I type - or already have.

In basic agreement. Although I see most of the one-credit restaurants remaining "decent" and never venturing back into "good."

The last trip down I used the modified ddp and saved plenty with great taste.
