Is DDE the Dining thingy. I'm getting a wee bit confused as the GF thread talks about this costing $60 (c. £30 right?) and that it gets you 20% off all food??? AM I mixing it up with something else?

Is it worth buying it? Can you buy it here or is it something you add on when you arrive?

You need to have an AP before you can buy a DDE (Disney Dining Experience) card.

It gives you 20% off food and all drink (including alcohol) and is accepted at most table service restaurants throughout WDW but not counter service locations. It is however accepted at the food courts at the All Stars and PO. They now add on a service charge of 18% to your bill with the DDE.

You can order it by post, but it's easy enough to get when you are out there. I usually go to Guest Services at DD.

I love this card and find it saves me quite a lot because I visit at least twice within a year (cards often last for 13 months btw) and like to eat at expensive places such as California Grill, although I do still eat offsite too.

So when is it cost effective to buy a AP? We're only going once this year and have already bought our 21 day ultimate ticket.

Now I would think you would need to do a lot of Dining to make it worthwhile purchasing an AP so you can purchase the DDE! As you've already got the 21 day ultimate tickets I can't imagine it would be worthwhile for you.

Mickey your GF maybe talking about the Disney Dining Plan in it's various guises,the basic is 1 Counter service,1 Table service & 1 snack per night of stay.You must be staying on-site & it is normally bought as part of a package,so if you bought your accom & passes from the same TA,you may be able to add it.I didn't think it was as dear as £30 though,but this may be one of the up-grade ones like deluxe + wine. It basically comes down to the No's game-How much will you spend on food? Are you going to eat on-site for the majority of your stay? Will you save by buying DDP?
