I’m trying to decide if purchasing the DDE will save us money. Is the 20% discount received with DDE at Table Service restaurants before the 18% gratuity is added.

The 18% tip is calculated on the non-discounted price, and tax is based on the discounted price.

So with a $100 bill you would have an $18 tip added, and then you would have a $20 discount.

So your total would be $80 + tax + $18 tip. :thumbsup2

DDE isn't worth it anymore... it was before they started adding the 18% gratuity on... now it mean you have to go through an extra hassle to get it back off when you get a character buffet where the 18% grautity is excessive considering the high bill and absence of service.

I like it because it does my math for me, LOL! For my tip I used to just put in the amount of the discount, now even that is done for me - just sign the bill and leave. Very simple, and all-inclusive - but then, I always tip either the old 20% or the current 18%. OTOH, I don't do character buffets, so I wouldn't know about service there.

It definitely saves us money, FWIW. We are a family of 4 and make back our investment in a weekend worth of meals. YMMV, of course!

I would disagree with your statement about absence of service at a character buffet. Granted, they do not take your order or bring you your food. They do, however, take your drink orders, keep your drinks filled, and remove any used dishes from your table while you're at the buffet. They are probably at the table more often than a "regular" waiter. IMHO.

On my recent trip, we saved $144.48. This was the 3rd trip on this DDE card and I have 2 more trips planned before it expires. So, it's worth it to me, even with the 18% gratituity added.

The tax and tip is calculated on the pre-discount price. For us it's even more of a no brainer then before. All we do is sign the slip and go. Well sometimes we do add a little extra tip if the server did an outstanding job.

This is a matter of personal opinion. For us, we have gotten the same outstanding service at the character meals as we do the regular table service restaurants.

I plan on purchasing the DDE this year. What made my decision is that all drinks (including alcohol) are included with the discount. So I know we will save alot on our upcoming trip.
