20% off sounds really good, but it seems to me that with the 18% gratuity that its really only a 2% discount. We will be spending a lot of money on food as we are annual pass holders and plan on visiting a lot this year. Is it worth it?

For us, it's definitely a good deal.

You say it's only a 2% discount, but that is only if you had planned to not tip to start with.

In the past we have used the discounted amount (20%) as the tip, so it was like the tip was "free" for us. This year, with the tip being included and being only 18%, we will save even more than in the past.

To figure out if it's a good deal for you, take a look at the restaraunts that you plan to eat at, and how much those meals will cost. If 20% of that cost is more than the cost of the DDE card, then it is "worth it".

we love the DDE plan and we do save money.....we have always tipped well so that is not an issue.......and if you stay at a resort that you can use it the savings are even better.......we are going with a gang of people and staying at ALL Star Movies.....so our breakfasts will be discounted and so will our snacks if we eat there........we have four reservations planned and will save there as well......

When receiving a discount on a meal, you should always tip based on the non-discounted price. As the above poster does we always use tip the 20% discounted amount, so it's like tipping for free.

As mentioned, it's only a 2% discount if you don't intend to tip at all.

Staying at Pop Century next month and I can use it for CS there. No tip needed.

What do you mean that your breakfasts and snacks will be discounted? I thought that the DDE only works for sit down meals at certain restaurants?

The DDE card is good at most table service resteruants and food courts. So if you are staying at POP, you can get a discount at the food court with your DDE card. I personally think the card is good if you have a family or more than 2 people in your party. For myself, it has not yet paid of since I am single, and am a party of one. I wont get another card, especially now that I can get the DDP.

When did this start? Last time we used the DDE it was only for a limited number of sitdown restaurants.

Does anyone know of a link with info on this?

It is actually still good mostly only at table service restaurants (pretty much all of the Disney owned ones plus most of the world showcase ones). It is however, good at resort food courts where there is no table service restarant (POFQ, All of the All Stars and Pop). It has been good at several counter service restaurants in AK as well, but that might change now that Tusker House is a sit down

We have also gotten the discount at POR counter service. We were told that since it is a sister resort, they share the discount.

It is also good at Trail's End Take out and really saves you money on those TS restauarants where the gratuity is already added in the price like CRT and Spirit of Aloha. For just those for two people we got back over $21 on the Spirit of Aloha (only certain seatings qualify) and over $13 at CRT. CRT discount was strange since the DDE does not apply to cost of the picture which is part of the pre paid cost.

But not the new Teppan Edo in Japan.

Us too! And we were able to get 20% off the mugs.

It's also good at the Counter Service location in Saratoga Springs.

If you are going a lot of WDW dining this year, then yes it'll save some big $ (we too just consider the tip "free"). The DDE card is also pays for parking at resorts. Our last trip we saved $40 alone that way, much less the savings at dinners with wine at Citricos, Narcoosees, AP and Jiko (for 8 people, saved more than the cost of the card right there). We have our 3rd DDE card now, still love it. FWIW.
