I thought I read somewhere that DVC members could purchase the Disney Dining Experience card. However, I recently looked it up and read that only Annual Passholders and Florida Residents could buy the card.

Am I missing something ... or did I just imagine that DVC members could purchase a DDE card??

Thanks in advance for the responses.

No, you didn't miss anything. You have to be an AP holder or a Florida resident to purchase the DDE card.

It's not a DVC perk, although it's one they'd probably do well to add.

Yes, that's correct. We are DVC members and were able to purchase the DDE card only after the sales transaction for our annual passes had gone through. We paid $60 for one DDE card and got our money back in our first 6-day trip with the 20% off we received while dining for the week... It's accepted at a boatload of places...

Thanks guys. Obviously, I misunderstood what I had read (or thought I read) earlier and the current information out there is correct.

I appreciate the responses.

The big discount on the AP ($100) has only been around for a couple of years, so that has probably had a pretty big impact on how many DVC owners buy AP's now. I know that we used to buy PH's but went to AP's since they now make a lot more sense.

With the increase in AP buys comes an increase in use of the DDE, and chatter about it. So I think that's what confused you. I'd say a pretty substantial number of DVC owners on these boards either buy the DDE or the DDP to save money. So it probably seems like DDE is just part of the package to the casual reader.

For the first time in years, we did our May trip without a regular AP, DDP, or DDE.

We now have the Florida Seasonal AP, because the blackout dates don't pose a problem for us and it's $100 less than the DVC-discounted AP.

We didn't get DDP because of the radical changes to the program.

We didn't get the DDE card because we were eating only one character breakfast at an onsite TS restaurant.

We ate a couple of CS meals paying cash, paid cash for the Norway Princess breakfast, and ate all of our main meals offsite. We had some great meals and I don't think we'll ever go back to DDP or DDE!

That said, not everyone drives to WDW like we do, and those who fly and don't have cars would certainly benefit from the ability to purchase the DDE card. DDE is kinda like the AP discount -- we don't use it, but I'd like to see it offered for the vast majority of owners who would.

Since so many DVC members prucahse annual passes and thus qualify to buy the DDE, there is a lot of discussion about it here. That's probably why you thought DVC members could get a DDE card.
