DDE and tipping ???

If you show your DDE card when you order your meal, does the check include the discount and do you tip on the total before discount or after discount ?????

The check will show the original total and then it takes off the discount. I always tip based on the original total and not the discounted total.
I figure that the server is working just as hard so they should still get the same tip.

That's perfect!! I was hoping they would leave the total amount before the discount, I want to keep track of the savings.. and like LeftCoaster, I base my tip on the total of the bill before the discount. If not... I would end up screwing the server and that's not fair..

We also based our tipping on the pre-discounted amount.

We usually just tip the amount that was taken off for the discount. It makes it easier that way and I don't have to think as much while on vacation.

I do what wlfloyd does...just make the check total what the original amount was. I like to tip 20% and like floyd said..ya don't even have to think about it!

Another vote for the pre-discounted price. BTW, did you realize that when they take off the discount they (in accordance with law) also reduce the Sales Tax?

Your tip should be based on total price of meal before discount.

I didnt know the sales tax was reduced!!!

At least when they show the discount it makes it easier to work out the tip.

That's actually what we do! No need to do the math!

If the service was outstanding, we round up to the nearest ten dollars. For example if the non-discounted bill was $187.00, we would round up to $190.00.

If the service was only so-so but not in any way bad, we round down, for example to $185.00.

We tend to round up 9 times out of 10. We like nice and round numbers!!
