DDE and APs

Does anyone know if you need a current AP to order DDE? I'm asking mainly because you do have to show your AP when using it, so what is it to Disney if you order one without a valid AP just yet?
And if you do have to give a certain number for an AP, would a voucher do?
I'm trying to sort things out as I am not getting another AP until the day we arrive in December, and I'm not activating it one month in advance just to get DDE.

I was able to order my DDE card with a voucher. As of yet, I have not been asked to present my AP with the DDE card. The servers have all just taken out. Sometimes they may ask for an ID, but not an AP.

You can order DDE with just your AP voucher (I just did). Your AP is NOT ACTIVATED until you activate it at the parks (or Downtown Disney, I think). Your DDE card is activated when you order it BUT the expiration is often almost 13 months from the date you order as long as you order beyond a certain cut-off (for instance, I ordered mine on OCT.5 and it will not expire until end of Nov. 2006.) When you call DDE, just ask them about dates.

CCW 's experience was just like ours.
We were at WDW two weeks ago using DDE. Never needed to show AP or any sort of ID.
And Downtown Disney guest relations is the perfect spot to activate AP's--walked right in, no line whatsoever!!
