DIS Dads DDC XXXIV: The Original Home Of The DISDads!!!

Dads of the DIS talk about life, bacon, Disney, bacon, kids, bacon, cars, bacon, family life, and lots of other fun stuff! And beer. And bacon.
Not a bad race. Won't say more.

Now on to the Monaco GP... maybe tonight. Maybe tomorrow.

Watched Monaco on a delay. Saw some of the 500 before leaving for soccer. Not sure if I'll go back to watch the rest. Now watching the 600 and it has been an entertaining race.

Don't watch Nascar, so the Indy and F1 races are it for me.
Watched Monaco this evening and found the first part entertaining with the wet.

Morning, Fellas! Hope everyone had a good weekend. My weekend started off in a bad way. My neighbor across the street called me and said he needed to talk to me. Ok, so I met him in the street. Once I got there he said, "Steve, man to man, your lawn looks like sh*t. You need to mow it!" Me: "Uhhhhh" I was totally caught off guard by this and it took me a minute to re-set my brain. He then went on to say, "And the neighbors are talking." That did it. My brain caught up really quickly after that. I said, "Well, Phil, if the rest of the neighbors have a problem then they can come and talk to me about it themselves and I will tell them what I'm about to tell you, and that is, "My lawn is my business, and I will get to my lawn on my scheduled and no one elses schedule. Understood?"" Now admittedly my lawn, the front at last, was long, but not that long. The side yards, down front at least (the rest of the side yard, both right and left, don't have grass, but are more dirt) were a bit out of control, I admit, but still, what he did was wrong. This guy is a retired attorney with money to spare on a lawn maintenance service. I don't. He has an automatic sprinkler system. I don't. I don't always cut my grass during the week because of the little things that pop up, so I get to it when I can. So he can go and kiss my....well, you get the idea. I was not a happy camper. This guy has complained about my cherry tree I had planted several years ago. He hates that tree, along with most other trees. I went inside and told the Mrs. about it and then went on with the day. I did eventually mow the lawn Sunday, after the grass had a chance to dry out from the rain we got Friday night. I hope he chokes on it.

I have an opportunity to go take pictures of a dance recital rehearsals this week. My DD's dance studio is having their dance recital this coming weekend, and I asked, and got permission, from the director to go into as many rehearsals and performances I can get to to take pictures. I am sooo looking forward to this. My schedule at work is perfect for these rehearsals as I'll be working 7:30 am to 3:30 pm today thru Thursday, and rehearsals start at 3:30, couldn't have asked for a better schedule. I'll miss the very beginning of rehearsals while I'm driving to theater, but I'll be working at a location that's just about a mile from the highway, so that's a quick shot up the highway, and it's a straight shot down Cape from there. 20 minutes tops. So looking forward to this.

Well, gents, have a good day.

Morning, gents.

My work day is done. Sleep beckons.

:thumbsup2

Sounds not too shabby. :)

A good time was had by all. Lots of beach time as well as grillin'.

Hello,

Just finishing up the work week before the holiday (who am I kidding, I am planning on working from home some this weekend). The Kid is behind on school work and there are only 3 weeks left so we will be working on this this weekend. We have finally hit the rebellious teenager stage, at 17. If this is all she does, I count myself lucky.

Hope it wasn't too bad.

Good morning from a rainy Douglas.

Hope you all have a great Saturday.

Wonder if that's the rain storm we had Friday night.

Morning all.
Rained last night and supposed to rain for the next for days. A rarity here.

Did you need a boat?

Too quiet...

Gonna be a shoot out.

I thought of an old black and white move where this was said right before a shoot out.

Whoa! But good for you for standing your ground and being able to react so quickly.

I've done that. ::yes::

What I found interesting, is that while everyone was happy with the dance photos, they really liked the backstage shots. Most parents never get to see what happens backstage.

Actually... large parts of the province are flooded and underwater right now (or in the past weeks) and we're expecting a lot more rain still. I drove down to Fargo last week and had to detour around as the main highway was closed and underwater.

I have friends who have cottages in that area and the water level from the low a few years ago is about six feet higher.
I thought of an old black and white move where this was said right before a shoot out.
I quoted that from MASH. Episode where they're watching My Darling Clementine.

None of them are anywhere near me... :sad1:
Don't forget about Monaco.
My boys were telling me this might be the last race in Monaco. I guess the cars are too wide for the track now?

Nothing beats a nosy neighbor. I'm sure he'd be happy to contribute to help you hire a lawn service.

If the biggest problem your neighbors have is the length of your grass, they must be living charmed lives.

Yeah... Pretty much no passing.
Some nifty crashes, though. :rolleyes1

ooohhhh... I like that better than my dandelion response.
"Thanks, Bob. I appreciate you offering your lawn care service to take care of that."

He sounds like a wonderful neighbour. Good thing he doesn't live around here, lots of people did the No Mow May.

My boys were telling me this might be the last race in Monaco. I guess the cars are too wide for the track now?

Other than the history and spectacle, it hasn't been much of a race for a long time. Even this one had the top 4 cars nose to tail for about the last 30 laps and no one even tried to make a pass.

Morning, Gents! Been a bit behind this week, so I'll try and get to your posts this weekend. As I mentioned, I've been taking pictures this week at my DD's dance recital rehearsal this week, which is a large studio, so for the past 3 nights. I've been uploading the pictures in the mornings and then heading off to work. Speaking of work, time for me to get ready to head out. Have a good day, guys, and we'll chat later.

Morning, all.
Last day shift of the week. Work the midnight shift tonight then have a couple days off.
Can use it. I'm pooped. Training a new guy is more tiring than doing the work yourself.
I think this is day 50 of his on-the-job training with about another 40 to go.

Hey, Fellas!

Well, the week is over, as are the rehearsals, so on to the performances. Went Friday night, that was the first performance DD was in, and will be there again today, and it went well. My DD is definitely the child of musicians, both DW and I are trained musicians, so as a result, the DD knows and keeps the beat quite well. She also knows her choreography as well. I can see some of the other kids looking to her to see what they are supposed to be doing. Now, being a dance recital, you get all levels of performance, but you go to support the kids and all the hard work they do, so it was a fun recital to watch. Today I'll get to see the 'Littles' dance. The littles are the wee small ones, kindergarten age kids. The ones where them dancing doesn't matter, they just look cute in their outfits on stage. Had a good time taking pictures, but the daunting task of going through them and editing has begun. Being dance, and not knowing the chorography, I wound up taking a lot of pictures, some because the camera was in burst mode, more so than I really needed, but I didn't want to miss anything. As a result a lot of pictures I won't keep, but Unfortunately I still missed some good shots, but that's the nature of dance photography.

Here's one of the pictures I took during the performance Friday night. I almost missed it, that's why it isn't centered.

Morning, gents.
Start of the week for me with a 12 hr shift.

Hate those long shifts, the longest in my job is only 10. Are all of your shifts 12 hours, or do you have 8 hour shifts as well?

Whoa! But good for you for standing your ground and being able to react so quickly.

As soon as he said, "Other neighbors are complaining" that's when it clicked in my head.

Tell him you're planting dandelions for colour.

What I found interesting, is that while everyone was happy with the dance photos, they really liked the backstage shots. Most parents never get to see what happens backstage.

I love doing backstage shots, unfortunately that didn't happen during any of these shoots. First, this was my only chance to get pictures of all the classes they have, so I would have missed something. And I say "I would have missed something," because I would have had to change lenses, added a flash and diffuser and the go and take pictures. Sure, I could have, but I would have missed some of the dances, not something I wanted to do. There's also the problem in that the dancers use the auditorium to get ready during rehearsals, and using flash, even pointed away from the stage, wouldn't have been appreciated by the director.

I have friends who have cottages in that area and the water level from the low a few years ago is about six feet higher.

WOW! Hope all are ok

I quoted that from MASH. Episode where they're watching My Darling Clementine.

I knew it! That was the same movie scene, from the same M*A*S*H episode that popped into my head when I read that.

My boys were telling me this might be the last race in Monaco. I guess the cars are too wide for the track now?

I don't watch racing, but that's interesting

Nothing beats a nosy neighbor. I'm sure he'd be happy to contribute to help you hire a lawn service.

Hate a nosy neighbor, though I can be myself sometimes when I see something that peaks my interest....but, I have never complained about someone's lawn. And I should suggest that the next time he complains.

If the biggest problem your neighbors have is the length of your grass, they must be living charmed lives.

seriously, this guys is. Being retired and having nothing to do except dealing with your lawn must be nice.

ooohhhh... I like that better than my dandelion response.

He would have hated that. He really needs to live in an HOA.

I think this is day 50 of his on-the-job training with about another 40 to go.

I always hated going through training because 1) I hated not knowing what I was going, and 2) I hated having to take someone away from their job, so I'm sure the trainee hated the training part as well.

How are the pics turning out? Happy with them?

Good, though not all of them are keepers, and I knew that going into the shoot. I love dance photography, but the problem with shooting dance is that I don't know the choreography, so I tend to shoot a lot of pictures knowing that not all of them are keepers. Some of the pictures are from 'burst' mode when I see a dancer setting up a run and jump, so not all of those are keepers for sure. I'll keep all of them, eventually putting all of them on an external hard drive, but the keepers will go into a separate folder.
