DIS Dads DDC XXXIV: The Original Home Of The DISDads!!!

Dads of the DIS talk about life, bacon, Disney, bacon, kids, bacon, cars, bacon, family life, and lots of other fun stuff! And beer. And bacon.
So you had someone call your current job about you, looking to steal you away from them? Is that normal? How'd your boss handle that? Must not have liked that you were being headhunted right at work
No. I was working a job 100% remote that sounded great on the front end, but turned out horrible. I was actively looking. Guessing they found my resume on one of the sites. Got the phone call in afternoon/evening. Good thing was I was able to work extra hours other days/times to make up for time away from previous job.

I'd hope you'd get payments for March on back...it's not like you used it then.
::yes::
Nor would have been able to any time soon.

So you run 6X/week?
I think what he meant (how I read it)
Runs 5k
Next day walks 6 or 7
Repeat 3x and then day off

A 1 BR opened at Vero Beach, so I told DW and oldest dd they needed to make a decision either way. I was fine at either location. Oldest dd threw out her "senior trip card" and wanted WDW. So, that is now the final decision. Hopefully, Florida's Governor or Disney won't change those plans. I'm disappointed with having APs, and not being able to use them to park hop. But, I guess that's the price of COVID.

I saw on the FB group where some have posted about how it is irresponsible to go to WDW with the number of Florida cases. In my town on 55,000 people, I know about 10 people who tested positive for COVID and never left the state, only 1 that went to the hospital. I'm not a believer in the cloth mask, but I'm wearing mine inside the store and Church, and of course, I'll have to wear it on the plane and in WDW. I think WDW will be far safer than Walmart. So, I don't really understand where all the fear is coming from.

Hey there guys! Had to furlough some folks yesterday and today, volumes are just not rebounding yet. I think we are doing the right thing with furloughs rather than layoffs for the team member but if the federal subsidy for unemployment does get extended past July 31

Hopefully the crazy low wait times and crowds (except HS, which should slow a bit) are more conducive to a slower pace to be better for DW if you go.

We picked HS twice, in hopes of getting Rise of the Resistance at least one of those days.

Sorry to hear about the furloughs. Those aren't easy decisions. Sadly, I think there is a lot more to come with all of this unemployment and government spending. I definitely hope I'm wrong.

No. I have 15 days of work until I retire August 31. I think that makes these conferences extra painful.

Take a look at this video Dreams Unlimited. The two guys talk about their recent (as in within a couple of days) experience in going to WDW since its opening. It should help out.

Great pick and looks like I'm late - but Happy Anniversary to you and Mrs Darcy!

Thanks Mike.

We don't use the term furlough around here, what's the difference between that and layoff?

Well...made my decision...

Canceling APs.

Dang. Sorry, but I know you've thought this through.

I thought I had clicked well with them, and they with me, so I feel confident.

Sounds great! Hope it's good news.

This week's TBT pic, we won't be camping in this trip but we will be close by to this spot in Fundy National Park where Declan had his first camping trip.

Nice. He looks like he was having fun.

I try to get at least 3 - 5K runs were week, 4 if I am really motivated.

Me too. But I'm never motivated.

Thanks. I've run every day for the past 9 days or 15 times in July so far (anywhere from 2-5K) and frankly... I'm a little tired. Kinda figured I was over-doing it.

That's entirely possible, I'm sure. The body needs rest too.

Had to furlough some folks yesterday and today, volumes are just not rebounding yet.

Yuck. Sorry, Mike. That's not fun for anyone.

Let's do something with Tom Sawyer Island.

I'm gonna argue against that. I love Tom Sawyer's Island the way it is. To me, it's classic low-tech Disney. Well-themed, with something to discover around every corner. My kids have always loved exploring there.

I saw on the FB group where some have posted about how it is irresponsible to go to WDW with the number of Florida cases. I think it's very possible to travel and minimize the chances of infection. My real worry would be whether everyone else I encounter is going to do that. I can only control my own actions.

I believe a furlough is not supposed to be permanent. Basically, they're saying we're not bringing in enough income to be able to pay everyone or stay solvent. So we're placing some employees on furlough for some amount of time, hoping to bring them back at a later date.

Hope it works out to be great trip for you and the family. Remember to offer some half days to DW, maybe let the girls have some time in the park while and Mrs Norm enjoy a beverage by the pool or Abracadbar.
Thanks Mike.

Furlough allows them to keep insurance, which they have to pay for but is way less than COBRA. Also provides that if / when we bring them back they do not loose any tenure / time with the company and they still qualify for unemployment insurance.

Fair enough, I loved it on first and only visit as a kid - I loved the fort. Now I did not say what to do but seems that it could be more and maybe some additions?

Got it.

Can see that. But... do you have to pay attention?
Me too. But I'm never motivated.
:rolleyes1

Yup

Morning Gents!

So yesterday was a good day, not much to report there. Because of the whole Covid-19 thing, a friend of ours and her parents couldn't make their usual trip to Maine, so they came down to the Cape instead. So my DW, DD and I met them for dinner and had a great time. That was the first time I had been inside of a restaurant in months. So yesterday afternoon I had sent off a Follow-up/Thank you email to the two attorneys I had interviewed with. This morning I had received a response from Jess, one of the two attorneys. Her response was the typical, "It was great meeting with you," however, this sentence has me nervous, " I will touch base with Brian about the rest of the meeting and I am sure we will be in touch in the coming weeks. " WEEKS?! I CAN'T WAIT WEEKS, I HAVE ANOTHER OFFER ON THE TABLE! So I took a moment to breath and calm down. After I calmed down, I realized that she had to leave for a closing, and thus wasn't there for the conversation I had with Brian where I said that I already have an offer on the table, and need a time frame. I hope Brian doesn't forget this part of the conversation, he wasn't taking any notes, so... I know, relax. If they get back to me after I start at my current place of employment, then I'll make a decision and leave if I have to. Besides, they can't wait too long, the person I'd be replacing is leaving at the end of August and they would want me to shadow her...so they can't wait too long. So, I'm getting worked up over nothing. Well, gonna head off. Have a good day, gents, and we'll chat later.

Glad you calmed down. She probably wasn't there when the conversation about one other person on Friday and then they'd know, so she said weeks to make sure
A) you were actually interested - gauging your response.
B) she set expectations. The Scotty factor works in business as well. If you think it will be weeks and you hear back in days, you'll be happy and more likely to accept. On the other hand, if you think you'll hear right away and don't hear anything for weeks, then you're going to be sad/frustrated/angry and possibly move on.

Same as a quote for repair
If someone tells you $5K and it's $6K, you're upset
If they tell you $7K and it comes out to $6K, happy camper
Paid the same amount, but how you feel walking away is different
