DIS Dads DDC XXXIV: The Original Home Of The DISDads!!!

Dads of the DIS talk about life, bacon, Disney, bacon, kids, bacon, cars, bacon, family life, and lots of other fun stuff! And beer. And bacon.
Nope, me neither. Got Bupkis.

Movie from years ago with Danny Glover and Tony Danza called Angels in the outfield. The one little boy kept saying "it could happen".

Quick visit to the butcher
Mmmm.

You keeping pigs in your backyard?
Nope. Took a trip to the store yesterday and they had bacon buy one get one free, so even though I have some of the REALLY good bacon from the place in GA in my freezer, I did that instead.

Happy Sunday of Divine Mercy.

Been away for awhile and watched the over projection of COVID19. Sadly, no one will admit they just got the projection models wrong, so we will continue longer in lockdown mode. The only impact this has had on me is they closed the tennis courts. Yeah, COVID attaches itself to a tennis ball and travels across the court to my daughter who lives in the same house. Ridiculous.

Regardless, I built a firepit for DW. The picture is 90 degrees off.

While it's only been two days, it's been magical. Yesterday, I introduced my 15 year old dd to the firepit. Today, my oldest came back home and we enjoyed a couple of hours at the fire. She's sad to miss graduation and prom. I had a tequila shot, a bottle of wine, cigar, and a couple of beers. It's been 20 years? So sad. Good to be back.

Welcome back and nice job on the firepit. DS and I had a fire tonight minus the firepit, tequila, wine, cigar and beers and discussed his plans for after the non-graduation graduation. Still planning on getting visiting the Air Force recruiter after he gets word from the principal he has met graduation requirements. 32 days to go he says. Hope all is going well with you and yours and especially your oldest. Hard time to strike out on her own.

Been away for awhile
Welcome home. :)
Sadly, no one will admit they just got the projection models wrong,
Well... no. Of course not. They're projections. And models. Not factual. How could they be?
And yet... without the social distancing and closures maybe those projections and models would have been exactly, terrifyingly, right.
The only impact this has had on me is they closed the tennis courts. Yeah, COVID attaches itself to a tennis ball and travels across the court to my daughter who lives in the same house. Ridiculous.
The problem isn't the tennis ball, or you. It's the idiots who decide that they want to play doubles with you or run over to grab their ball that bounced into your court who have the virus and spread it to everyone else because they're not keeping their distance.
It's unfortunate that things have to be closed because while a person can be smart, people are stupid.
Regardless, I built a firepit for DW. The picture is 90 degrees off.
Ah! And here I thought maybe you'd moved halfway between here and Australia.

Morning all from a sunny wherever.

Not much to report except that I'm completing a project from yesterday which is sitting on my duff watching TV. Have a good day.
Good project.
Happy Sunday of Divine Mercy.
Hello Sailor, nice to see you back. Nice pit.
The beer however......

Anyone know the connection between Mich Ultra and making love in a rowboat?
They are both f@@king close to water.

I thank you.
I'll get my coat.

Have a good Monday chaps.

Morning Gents! Well, it's now Monday and that means another work week...I guess. This week is nice because for the first half of the week I'm alone in the stockroom. Bill, the guy I work with in the stockroom, has taken the first half of the week off, which leaves me in charge. While I'm perfectly capable of working in a team setting, and prefer it in certain situations, I prefer working alone in this setting because I don't need help picking orders and I just sometimes want to be left alone. So I'm looking forward to the first half of the week. Outside that, I've got nothing. Enjoyed finishing up my project from Saturday. Got lots of TV time and a few beers drunk. So over all, a good weekend. Have a good day, Gents, and I'll be chatting with you during the day.

that's the best kind of "project".

Well... it definitely involves projection.

I think its the best kind of project.

And definitely a good projection of Star Wars movies. :thumbsup2 Especially since it was raining all day Saturday. Good excuse to watch them.

Nice fire pit. Sorry that your DD will be missing prom and graduation. I feel bad for the seniors this year, I really do. Sadly we are now in a whole new reality because of this Covid-19.

Might I suggest the Navy? He'd see a lot more of the world. I saw countries that I never thought I'd see because of the Navy.

Don't try to corrupt the boy...he's already planning on going to the RIGHT branch. ;)

Actually, the main (well two) reasons I didn't want to do Navy...
1) Being on a ship 6 months (or more out of the year) and being away from family
2) While on the ship, being on 12 hour shifts 7 days a week (except when in port)
Okay, 3
3) Hot bunking with someone else. Umm, no, just no. And with COVID19, even more no.

I will grant, you'll see more of the world, but then again, most of what you see are the port cities, right? You don't really get the time to go off into the actual countries away from the ports much, do you?

Remember when you used to run... for fun?????

Nope.

We are doing Morocco today in the Eat around the world challenge, so my favourite meal in Epcot, the mixed Schwarma plate is on the menu, and the weather looks like its got an hour before the rain hits. So I need to go fire up some charcoal.

Why not just try this place?

Happy Sunday of Divine Mercy.

Welcome back, Norm!

DS and I had a fire tonight minus the firepit, tequila, wine, cigar and beers and discussed his plans for after the non-graduation graduation.

My daughter is missing out on prom and graduation, too. It's a bummer. I know she misses seeing her friends.

By the way, I had said it on FB but not here. She's decided to attend Drexel University in Philadelphia. Now I just have to figure out how to pay for it.

I prefer working alone in this setting because I don't need help picking orders and I just sometimes want to be left alone.

The worst part of any job (no matter what field) is having to deal with other people. So with that removed, it should be a great day!

Bill, the guy I work with in the stockroom, has taken the first half of the week off, which leaves me in charge.
Wait. They can't leave you in charge. You can't do the job, remember? That's why they're looking to hire someone to fill the position.
I don't need help picking orders
Not possible. You do!

:sad2:
420 Dudes!
And a happy spark up day to you too.

Must admit I've never done that. I don't like smoke in my lungs. Maybe it feels differently from cigarettes, but that was not a fun experience, so not tempted.
Geez! Just how old are you????
Why not just try this place?

Okay, I'll bite...

420 Dudes?
In 1971 some California students decided that 4:20pm was the perfect time to smoke grass. So 420 became a code word for lighting up. It then morphed into the date of April 20 (4/20) being an international day for weed.

Might I suggest the Navy? He'd see a lot more of the world. I saw countries that I never thought I'd see because of the Navy.

I almost joined the Navy out of college. I wanted a shore assignment though. I need to see trees and grass. When the recruiter said "I can almost guarantee a shore based assignment" that was when I went off to graduate school in Knoxville instead. I could have been retired by now though.

Don't try to corrupt the boy...he's already planning on going to the RIGHT branch. ;)

He thinks so. No desire to fly though. He is afraid of heights.

I'll agree with 1 and 3, but if you are on ship, what else is there to do other than work? If I wasn't working or sleeping I would go nuts and that has never been a long journey for me.

A rough year for all the seniors. Congrats to her on Drexel and best wishes. At least she won't be too far away for you to keep an eye on her.

Must admit I've never done that. I don't like smoke in my lungs. Maybe it feels differently from cigarettes, but that was not a fun experience, so not tempted.
Me either, though I have to say I did have an excellent Cuban cigar at my best friends wedding.

Well, every day is a school day.
Had never heard of 420 before. I think the two factors:

1) When I was in HS, I tried it a couple times. It made me sleepy and hungry. I figured I could just eat and go to sleep and save the expense.

2) When I went in the Air Force, if they ever found it in your system, it was an automatic dishonorable discharge and/or article 15 and/or court martial. Never wanted to risk any of that for just being able to eat and go to sleep. (see #1).

Never been a stoner or (evidently) aware of their culture. I remember watching a few Cheech & Chong movies and while funny at times, kinda couldn't understand movies about getting high.

He can almost guarantee a shore based assignment. I think that's a used car salesman type line. I think I could almost guarantee you will be at sea, but I guess there are some jobs that would be shore based.

I understand, to an extent, but I guess maybe it's because I enjoy my time off...I work to live, I don't live to work. I think I'm more likely to go nuts with almost no downtime than too much. I realize on a ship, options may be limited, but I'm sure I'd be able to find something to do even if not working most of the time.

The RIGHT branch? :rotfl2: :rotfl2:;)

Ok, lets take a look at this: Your first two points I get, and understand because I've been there, done that. Actually, I wasn't married when I was in so being away from family (outside of parents and brothers) didn't pertain to me. And yes, when the ship leaves port and gets underway you're always working; however, you pull shifts, or watch, of 4 hours each. When your watch is over, you have other duties, but once the day is done, you can hang out in the berthing space, or go work out or whatever, but you are always on...if that makes any sense. As for hot bunking? Doesn't happen unless you're in the sub fleet. A guy I work with was a bubble head and he had to hot bunk it, but surface fleet does not, unless you do as lower rank on a carrier, but even then I think there are enough racks to not have to do that.

420 Dudes!

Exactly....and my supervisor is starting to annoy me and it's not even 10 am yet.
