DIS Dads DDC XXXIV: The Original Home Of The DISDads!!!

Dads of the DIS talk about life, bacon, Disney, bacon, kids, bacon, cars, bacon, family life, and lots of other fun stuff! And beer. And bacon.
I may watch "Whats Opera, Doc" with Bugs Bunny, and that should take me through the lockdown in terms of cultural activity.

That's a true classic. Totally counts as culture.

At home debating on going back to work as I think I have a kidney stone on the move.

Ugh. Hope that's not as bad as it sounds.

Thanks! It's tough having birthdays under quarantine. We get to do it all over again with Dave in a few days.
Happy early birthday to Dave!
I didn’t forget him, so I guess he’s my favourite.
I believe you. I don't think I could ever get used to that.
I know I can’t.
On the other hand, we were joking among members of my church that they'd better have lots of baptism materials ready for 9 months from now once the lockdown started.
Babies by boredom.
At home debating on going back to work as I think I have a kidney stone on the move.
Sorry to hear that. Been there. Not fun.
I think there's a flaw in your logic...staying sane would indicate we were to begin with.
::yes::

Evening all from a powerless Westfield NB. We lost our power yesterday in the storm and are running on a generator. The hydro crew have been on our street for about 10 hrs now,a large tree came down on the lines two houses down the street. they finished cutting the tree around 6 and are hoping to have the downed lines repaired in 4-6 hrs.

Evening all.

relatively busy day here, couples of hours in a Zoom meeting, got my car back, mail run to the office, groceries, call with our president and 5 Km run. Now we are just relaxing watching some Whose Line Is It Anyway?

And tomorrow is Hump Day!!

George did well with the challenge Dan, when do we see you doing it?

One of the guys that was suppose to be part of our meeting this morning lives down your way and used that as his excuse to not participate. ;) Hope you get the power back soon.

Sounds like a flimsy excuse too me, I made it to work, :lmao: :lmao:. Power just came on, time to put the generator away until next power outage. :scared1:

Morning, gents! Well, found out yesterday that my current job officially posted the open position to fill when they fired the guy in the warehouse. I know I need a job, and I'm already doing it, but I don't want to get locked into a shipping and receiving/inventory clerk job for the rest of my life. I know, I can move on, and I plan to, but once I accept this job it becomes harder (for me at least) to move on once I find the right job. I know, the right job isn't going to come along tomorrow. I'll probably apply for it, I need the work.

Well, we think we know what the problem was with regards to my hot water heater: Leaking valve. It was replaced and we'll keep an eye on it to see if we get anymore leaks.

Well, gents, that's all for now. Have a good day and we'll chat later.

TTFN

I'm at work, so I can't see it, but hope to later today.

Hope you like it.

Hey! I know what that's like! Well... I'm only up to 3K, so not quite.

Hahaha It was great at first because it was only the first couple of takes; however, by the 13th I was like, "Ok, I'm done."

:thumbsup2

Oh, man. That sucks. Sorry to hear that.

I know a guy who just changed his tank. He swore by the new polybutene tank (available Home Depot)
It costs more than double a normal tank would cost, but it has a lifetime warranty on it.
If you expect to be in the same place for more than 10 years, it might be something to look into.
Unless you're thinking of going tankless? (Which is even more expensive.)

We think we know what the problem was: a leaking valve. We have a friend who's a plumber, and he came by to look at it and discovered it was leaking. He capped it and we think that'll fix it, but I am keeping an eye on it. Thanks for the suggestion on the tank, I'll keep that in mind for when we eventually replace the one we have now.

Alright! Way to go! You're the only husband around here who gets "busy" with the wife!

:thumbsup2

:sad2: I can't believe you said that too.

I know, right?! *Bangs head against the wall*

I use the stair master at work, but, like every other gym right now, it's closed due to the pandemic.

When work changed my hours to start later I was going to hit the gym, but then it closed due to the pandemic.

Very nice mate.
That's my cultural Quota filled for the next 3 months.
Remind me not to get drunk and challenge you at karaoke for money.

Thanks, man. Wanna hear something funny? I hate karaoke, so you'll be fine if there's ever a karaoke machine around.

I thought you said you could sing. Totally teasing. Very nice. You sounded better after take 13 than I could EVER. I'm a bass and I could never get that high...even with tight tight shorts.

Thanks, man, appreciate it. And as a bass, you're not supposed to be able to reach those notes.

That is cool. I was in South Pacific in our HS musical and still my favorite musical (although Les Miserables takes a close second). You definitely married up dude. I had to re-read that you said it was your wife...I thought it was your daughter. Pretty lady ya got there!

Since my name is on the video you watched, Youtube my name. My voice teacher put two videos of me singing, one is "Younger than Springtime" from South Pacific with a modulation at the end, which we added.

When I first read that, I thought you meant the roof at the warehouse and I was going to say have your friend charge them an arm & a leg. Then I realized you probably meant your house. Good you have a friend to help out.

hahahah

"busy"???
Nice.

Oh, you mean the video. Never mind.

:rotfl2:

I broke my back in several places years ago in an accident, so running LITERALLY hurts. Props to you, sir.

How'd you do that?

You're doing it wrong. Snort cocaine, not shorts.

And squeezing. Don't forget squeezing.

OK, so today escalated quickly. George went from not wanting to do videos. You may have noticed earlier we were having Chicken wings as dinner tonight. If any of you have seen the Hot Wings series on YouTube, G is obsessed with it. So he and I are embarking on the hot wings challenge.
He's pretty good with spice, he's been eating Indian food up to spicy tandoori level since he was about 5.
This is what awaits us.View attachment 487890 I

Dude, looks like you're going to have some hot wings.

Nice job! You guys are very talented.

Thanks, man.

Ugh. Sorry, man. That's not a good feeling.

Thanks, we think we know what the problem was it wasn't because the tank was leaking. We think it was from a leaking valve that you attach a hose to to help drain it. That has been capped off and we're going to keep an eye on it.

We actually did ok. Wasn't bad at my house at all. My biggest worry was for my staff at work--wind tends to play havoc with our traffic signals and equipment. They're still catching up with some of the damages.

Hope everyone was ok. We had high winds the other day, and we didn't lose power...thankfully.

I have to admit that I have no idea what this means.

That happened next door to us a couple years back. A neighbors tree fell down during a big storm and snapped the pole and the power lines. Hopefully you guys will get your power back soon, if not already.

Again...take the full time job and don't have any reservation/guilt about moving on when you find a good job. It's not as if they haven't strung you along and taken advantage of you. Loyalty (as with respect) must be earned and in my mind they've done nothing to earn your loyalty.

He capped it and we think that'll fix it, but I am keeping an eye on it.
Wait! Replaced or capped? At one point you said replaced and another you said capped. The reason I ask is my son is a master plumber and I recall him telling me once the valve is CRITICAL...it prevents the tank from exploding if it gets too hot. Just concerned.

Thanks, man, appreciate it. And as a bass, you're not supposed to be able to reach those notes.
I understand. I actually have a pretty good range and probably could get up there, but not comfortably and probably wouldn't sound great since I'd have to work/strain. Sang in church choir for several years and even did a couple solos, but never considered myself a great singer. I was more commenting on you have a good voice and although I enjoy singing, I haven't had any training and still struggle with reading music. I also (because of singing along with radio my whole life) tend to want to harmonize. Speaking of harmony...can't say as I have a clue when the choir director says melody, not harmony. Um, okay...demonstrate it for me and I can copy it.

Since my name is on the video you watched, Youtube my name. My voice teacher put two videos of me singing, one is "Younger than Springtime" from South Pacific with a modulation at the end, which we added.
Nice.
Not that I can sing as well as them, but here are a couple of the songs I did as a solo:

(They didn't do as a solo, but I couldn't find the version I did [By Brooklyn Tabernacle Choir]) It was a male soloist with choir backup, same as I did. Tough song because the accompaniment (hey, I spelled it right...always have problems with that word) was very minimal, so my timing was crucial. My daughter was in pre-K (she's 19 now) and I practiced every day taking her to daycare. She knows the song almost as well as I do.

Okay, this started playing automatically and I will say...I did better than this guy. His voice sounds very shaky/tentative to me.

Okay, finally found one that sounds like the same (or close) music I used:

How'd you do that?
Motorocycle accident. Long before I grew up and before I became a motorcycle safety instructor. Made several mistakes I later learned how to avoid. One was riding while upset (big mistake...you tend to be so focused on your anger, you miss things or don't analyze them).

I have to admit that I have no idea what this means.
He already answered you, but...
It's short hand for That's What She Said. One of @Cinderella's Fella favorite new sayings after DDCC8. That and "you're my favorite". He also likes to ask me if I live in Florida. Inside joke...evidently, I mention it too often...not intentionally...I think initially, just because I was so happy and then it morphed to letting new guys to the dis know so if they wanted to meet up. I know it's all in good fun, so it doesn't bother me and it's kinda a fun thing Randall and I tease back and forth with (as I said, inside joke).

Afternoon chaps. Sunny and warm(ish) today. Japan on the eating around the world challenge today, so teaching the kids how to make sushi (well, Maki) tonight. We dug Rock Band out of the back of the cupboard and now the kids are murdering various classics. I might send them over to CCT for a bit of training.

The boy got through all of the sauces and one extra hot one, so many of you guessed correctly.

Thanks, man. Wanna hear something funny? I hate karaoke, so you'll be fine if there's ever a karaoke machine around.
See, that's exactly what a Karaoke hustler would say.
I know, the right job isn't going to come along tomorrow. I'll probably apply for it, I need the work.
This seems like a sensible option. Like someone has said before, as soon as what you need comes up, be off with you. Whilst simultaneously giving them the finger. Because as an outside viewer, they have been effin' scoundrels.

George did well with the challenge Dan, when do we see you doing it?
:rotfl:He did do well, cheers mate.
I was doing it next to him. I have no ambition to be on videos. I did the Pool Bar one to get them into it.
He also likes to ask me if I live in Florida
Wait a minute...

You live in Florida?

Been drinking water all day and it either settled down, passed, or is waiting to surprise me in the middle of the night.
Lets hope it's door number 2. All the best.
I'm a bass and I could never get that high...even with tight tight shorts.
And there's an image that's gonna sit with me all day.
One Of the better hot sauces I have found us Endorphin Rush. A mild flavor and a heat that doesn't kick in right away but then gets you and makes your ears ring.
I will keep a look out for that, cheers.

Have a phenomenal hump day, lets hope we all get busy later.

Morning all.

Sunny/cloudy day here, seems warm enough. We're in to flood watch season here but so far things are looking good around here. Fingers crossed.

Happy Hump Day!

Top O the Mornin Dads! Let's get through the day in one piece so that we can get over the midway point. Don't know about you guys but it's starting to gnaw at me how long this is gonna go on and how long til we can back to more normal like going on vacation, going to a sporting event or concert, eating out at dinner without everyone looking like pre-op at the hospital? Tip of the hat though to those on the front lines provide medical emergency and healthcare services and those are really some remarkable folks with all they are dealing with. Enjoy hump day and stay safe.

Glad you're all safe and sound other than the power. Tress falling are not a good thing

Congrats to George on his accomplishment

Happy early birthday to Dave!
I didn’t forget him, so I guess he’s my favourite.

I'll be sure to mention it to him. I'll tell him you're sending him some of those pickle potato chips.

Thanks. Been drinking water all day and it either settled down, passed, or is waiting to surprise me in the middle of the night.

I like the second option the best.

Sounds like an awfully productive day. Take the rest of the week off.

Glad it wasn't a total replacement. That's good news.

Impressive. :darth: I doubt I would have made it that far.

Wait a minute...

You live in London?

Wait a minute....

You guys are real?

It is getting a bit repetitive and I do wonder how things will go as we move forward. This is a scary time for a lot of people and the amateur sport world is no different. We're having lots of discussions right now about what our landscape will look like when we are allowed to start up again. Clubs and associations that rely on membership/registration fees are in grave danger. I've spoken with about 11 clubs from different sports in the last week and they have projections of up to 1.5 million in lost revenue over the next 6 months. Lots of money for volunteer-based organizations to lose out on.
