DIS Dads DDC XXXIV: The Original Home Of The DISDads!!!

Dads of the DIS talk about life, bacon, Disney, bacon, kids, bacon, cars, bacon, family life, and lots of other fun stuff! And beer. And bacon.
Yikes! Speedy Recovery!
Sorry to hear, take it easy for awhile. Had this happen to me at a house fire a few years back, I suffered a bilateral pelvic fracture and was laid up for 8 weeks.
Speedy recovery there mate. All the best.
Glad they let you come home Doc, take care.
Really sorry that happened Doc, but glad that it wasn't as bad as it could have been.
Looking at the weather reports, it seems like the hurricane is moving away from Florida so that's good at least. Hopefully minimal impact.
Thanks for the kind words and/or prayers guys.
I only have myself to blame. I had a better ladder I COULD have been using, but I was ALMOST done...had three screws left and figured I could make do with the ladder I had. Bonehead mistake and I'm paying for my own poor judgment. It could have been worse, I could have broken something serious (i.e. back) or hit my head or even killed myself, so I'm counting my blessings even though they're painful ones.

Fortunately, it didn't hit us very hard, so much of the preparation was unnecessary, but again, I'd rather be ready and not need it than not be ready and find out too late. Just a tough lesson...get the right stinking ladder even though it may take a bit longer.

I'm praying for the folks in the Bahamas...they were devastated. Also for the people in GA and SC...it may hit them harder than us. For that matter, looking at the track, it might affect some of our Canadian neighbors.

Yikes. Sorry, Doc! Hope you heal quickly.
Saw this after I posted the other reply...thanks Mark.

Doc, let us know when you are feeling better my friend and we can start to rip into you for falling off a ladder. I’ve got about 5 Clark W Griswold memes in the chamber and a very itchy trigger finger.....
Go for it...I deserve it...my own stupidity to blame. Just don't be upset if I don't laugh...it hurts to do so.

Top O the Mornin Dads! HAd a great weekend away at the beach with good friends. DS is home this weekend for a bit as he has a Dr appt Friday so having him around for a couple of days to help with yard work ain't all that bad.
Morning Gents.

DS officially began his university career this morning, taking part in the his faculties orientation. Seems like just yesterday we were sending him off to kindergarten.
All the best to him!
My DD is gone back today for her 2nd year in university. Crazy how fast time flies.
All the best to her!
And to make matters worse, I am no longer healthy despite my obesity. The doc said blood numbers are out of whack. So, I'm joining doc in keto world. Corona makes a 2.6 carb beer. I just bought in home from the store and it's chilling. Ugh.
Sorry to hear Norm, you should be good on the bourbon though.
Well, I have some bad news of my own...
Was almost completely done buttoning up my house for the hurricane. Last board, 3 screws...I had already drilled them and just needed to put them in.
Fell off the ladder and fell on top of it. Cracked 4 ribs.
Was in the hospital overnight and came home yesterday.
Quite sore and moving very slow, but thankful also...it could have been much worse.
Again Doc, speedy recovery. Like Dan said, so we can start giving you a hard time about it.
Evening Guys, just wanted to give a quick update on my uncle. His breathing tube was removed and he is breathing on his own. Still don't know what happened because he is still feeling pretty good because of the pain killers. My uncle is 67 and he asked his girlfriend to get my mother's permission for them to get married. :)
Good to hear he is improving.

Made it to Wednesday and stayed on this low carb carp. I haven't lost 50 pounds yet, so it must not be working.

Sorry to hear that buddy. But on a slightly more optimistic note, Bourbon is keto friendly.

Yes, I found that immediately.

Sorry to hear that. I was interested in Keto but I like beer to much.

Dis he ask for permission because he is loopy on pain meds? Did she give him permission?

I don't want to do this keto thing. It's a necessity now. I'm not going on meds for 40 years.

Well, it was a good run. We are proud of you.

My problem is that I like food that tastes good.

Thanks. It was a good run. The good news is that I can eat all the bacon, steak, chicken, and cheese I want. It's the beer and cookies that stink.

Looked like you all had fun on the island. Thanks. I can still drink bourbon with you.

Turns out a 30 year diet of pizza and beer is unhealthy. Who knew.

LIES!!

I couldn’t do Keto, but losing weight and better health is why I took up running again. It worked wonders for my blood pressure—it got me off the blood pressure meds and it’s normal now just through exercise and trying to avoid sodium. I’m down 30 pounds since May. I’ve been doing intermittent fasting, but not sure how much it helps. A legit pressure cooker or Instant Pot has helped with quick meals that keep me out of trouble.

Norm. There are a ton of keto options (maybe not cookies, but several low carb treats)
How about keto cheesecake? Basically my normal cheesecake recipe but substituting almond flour and coconut flour for Graham cracker crumbs and low glycemic sweetener(s) for sugar. Keto chocolate no bakes. Keto cakes. Lots of options. PM or text me...lot of resources out there, besides me

30 lbs. is impressive. Nice work!

I keep trying to take up running, but then two things always happen:
1) I remember that I hate running, and
2) The pounding makes my heel hurt (plantar fasciitis). Once that pain starts, it feels like it takes 2 months to go away, and by that time I've lost any benefit the running gave me. Frustrating.

It's the shoes! I used to have the same problem until I went to the running shoe store, got into a pair of Brooks Glycerin (like running on couch cushions), and no heel pain, no knee pain, no shin pain, no nothing! It's awesome!

Morning/afternoon all.
Been off the boards and slowly catching up now.
Haven't read a darn thing here... which makes it easy to catch up, no?
Anything happen that I should know about? I already know about Doc's aborted attempt at a swan dive off a ladder.

You missed the vote. You're supposed to send 5 lbs of bacon and 10 dole whips to each of us.

Should've been here.

And FYI, it was a full gainer not a swan dive

The dr talked about intermittent fasting as well, but that it would still need to be more low carb. I'm not ready for that yet. Good job on the 30 pounds.

I may hit you up for those. I'm under 30 carbs right now, and don't have much left for dessert. My 2.6 carb beer is the only dessert I get now.

Brooks Adrenaline here. I still play tennis and pickleball a combined 5 days a week. Not enough to handle my eating habits though.

Just all of our usual nuggets of wisdom we leave behind.

Uncle update. He has been moved out of the ICU and on to an orthopedics ward. And he's still not married. ;)

We also decided to give Michigan to Canada in exchange for 7 Tim Hortons, some Kinder eggs, and a case of Hawkins Cheezies.

I would have been happy to include all the Kinder Eggs. YUCK!

Afternoon chaps, I’m back in the future, waiting in the cafe for bacon and sausage sandwiches. Just got back home.
The Lady’s k is already on the websites, I think we are going for a 5 year plan to buy a place in Anna Maria as a nest egg.

Seconded (or thirded) in the shoes Mark, I use ASICS Nimbus and they turn out a treat, and I had a snapped achilles. Training starts proper next week, I have a marathon in March.

Pkondz welcome back mate

Mikey, I wont need much help sleeping but if I do I’ll just stick the Chicago offence on.

Have a great day fellas

I got a pair of Saucony running shoes a couple of weeks ago. I'm still a little scared to go all out though since my heel still hurts occasionally from the last time.

The Adrenaline is the support version of the Ghost, which is only mid range in cushion. Glycerin is in the max cushion category. I think the Addiction or Beast is the Glycerin equivalent in a support shoe. I will get plantar fasciitis in the Ghost but not when I moved up into max cushion. I’ve heard great things about Gel Nimbus too
