DIS Dads DDC XXXIV: The Original Home Of The DISDads!!!

Dads of the DIS talk about life, bacon, Disney, bacon, kids, bacon, cars, bacon, family life, and lots of other fun stuff! And beer. And bacon.
Preferably on her shoulders.

I'm too fat for that.

Hope springs eternal...or does it?

My dad's cardiologist looked at my brother and I after my dad had his heart attack and said "You two are screwed". He was right. Genetics will get you every time and there isn't much you can do about it. My weight, cholesterol and BP were always great right up to the time I got my stents.

Yes, if you looked at our pictures on FB, then I would have been voted the most unhealthy.

Did you get abducted by aliens too?

Howdy Dads. Long time no see. You guys still hanging out in this place? Is that the same pizza stuck to the ceiling??

Been missing y'all, hopefully I can stick around this time. I may have said that before but I mean it this time.

Prayers to those who need it.
Praise to those who deserve it.
Bacon for everyone.

Hey Cliff. Good to hear from you again. Still working 3 jobs?

Who says it has to be one or the other? I say go for both.

I don't heal so quickly anymore though.

Welcome back!

Afternoon gents, where in the world am I?

FOP - Pandora?

Yup. We were making progress to me being able to quit one of them then we bought a house. It's a 1950 fixer upper.

You doing the work yourself? So, I guess you would be up to 4 jobs. Thankfully, neither DW or I ever plan to do a fixer upper. Or if we did, it would be to buy it at a great deal and hire someone to fix it.

Thanks great to be back.

Oh yeah doing it myself. But we got a great deal on it and I enjoy this kind of work. Already done the foundation repairs got the demo done on one of the bathrooms. It was already set up with an apartment so I'm trying to get that finished and up to code so we can rent it out and I can quit at least 1 of my jobs to finish the rest of the house.

Top O the Mornin Dads! Got an out and back to Minneapolis today for work. I can think of better ways to end the week. DD and SIL got in yesterday so that was good but with travel today I won’t get to see them but got the weekend. Speaking of weekends have a good one gents!

Morning, gents.
What a night...

Our AC stopped working yesterday and the tech got here around 10pm to check. It wasn't the AC (it was running, so knew that) but the furnace blower motor and circuit board that blew. It will be $2,000 to fix (hopefully today). He was pushing for it not to be fixed but to be replaced of course and he may be right, but... that's $8,000. Do I fix a 10 year old furnace for $2,000 or replace it? I'm thinking with a new blower motor, it should be good for a few more years, so that's what I'm doing.

And then... He stands up when he's done and hits his head. Opens a 2" gash which starts bleeding and running down his face. First aid administered and he left, probably to get stitches.

That's the dilemma I faced when the AC in my minivan konked out. Spend $2000 to fix it (on a 6.5 year old van) or just buy a new vehicle, which we had been thinking about anyway. I went with the latter. Still not sure I made the right choice. I really didn't want car payments again. But I do like driving the new CR-V.

I think you made the right choice if you can afford it. New car. New warranty. No headaches. Nicer vehicle.

Ouch that hurts.
BTW replacing the blower was probably the right choice but at 10 years it's time to start putting aside some cash for the AC. It's going to start having $200-500 repairs more regularly than you would like. At 15 years I would look seriously at replacing the unit if it has a major $1000+ repair needed. If it makes it to 20 count your blessings and be prepared to trash the whole thing.

Tournament draws are out. Youngest dd playing singles tonight (2 if she wins), mixed doubles at 8 AM tomorrow. I'll blame it on her for being tired if we lose.

Sounds like a good plan. At least you get the fruits of this work, as opposed to just your employer.

Safe travels and enjoy the family time.

Competent worker making competent recommendations? Glad it is fixed.

Afternoon from a sunny Westfield NB. Happy Friday. Survived another surgery and Chemo. 😁 Time for a few vitamin R's.😎

Congratulations. Enjoy the rum.

Don't post things like that. My furnace/AC are 19 years old. :furious:

Yep. Pretty much what I figured. I'll pay the $2K now and start putting money away and hope for the best.

In other news... well, same news, really. The guy called and they can't get a circuit board until next Friday... during the hottest week of the year with forecast highs of 33C/91F.

New cars come with a whole lot of new toys, AC's, not so much...
