DIS Dads DDC XXXIV: The Original Home Of The DISDads!!!

Dads of the DIS talk about life, bacon, Disney, bacon, kids, bacon, cars, bacon, family life, and lots of other fun stuff! And beer. And bacon.
But you could complain to Her Majesty as our joint head of state, and I’m sure she would intervene on your behalf.
This is true.

Actually, tbh... you mentioned every other year... and your points are at the Poly. Someplace I've always wanted to try, but been to cash scared to book....

Feeling better now and have follow up with regular doc on Tuesday.

So you went after the inlaws on a political topic, I love it! My FIL is a retired General Motors guy and once in a while I’ll poke him on unions just to help get his blood flowing better.

Look after yourself fella, lay off the stogies for a couple of weeks.
On the parents front, so far I have pointed out:

We will have to q for about 1hr longer rather than the 5 mins it took to get us in the country
Everything will cost more
If we fall ill we can no longer claim free treatment
We have to bring more documents for the cars
All our phone calls and texts will be astronomically more expensive

All of these have been suffixed with a “so thanks for that”.
I’m having fun

I never rented points, the idea of a perfect stranger booking a resort stay for me and trusting it will be there when I got there..... I wouldn't sleep. Only way I would do it is if I personally knew and trusted the person.
As the person renting the points, you can even check to make sure the reservation is there can you?

I'd rent to and from you Dave. But, i won't go outside ddcc.

I suppose it's possible (not likely) the person could try to screw you over, but if you have a contract, would have to give you your money back and all though I'm not a litigious person, I think that would definitely be a lawsuit right there. Obviously, there can always be a bad apple no matter what you're talking about, but I think someone trying that would really be very rare...I think the vast majority of us DVC owners are not in the business of trying screw people or make a quick dishonest buck.

True on all counts. However, your only recourse would be to sue them in small claims court, but how would you serve them across state lines? Or, just bad mouth them on disboards, here and FB.

Top O the Mornin Dads! Sure I’m out for a few days and you guys go into some of my favorite topics, kids, Cubs, DVC points, debating touchy subjects with inlaws and most importantly the fund raising for Andriana.
Had a bit of a scare here Wednesday night as I was hit with some knock ya on your butt chest pains while driving home from work. Got home, something I never felt so off to emergency room. All is good as the battery of tests they ran me through showed the ticker is just fine as is liver enzymes. Kicker is they couldn’t pinpoint what the heck is going on and saying maybe pleurisy which is inflammation of the lining of the lungs. Feeling better now and have follow up with regular doc on Tuesday.

Scary stuff. Glad you're ok. Let us know what it is. Prayers for you.

I wouldn't trust it either from someone I have no idea who I was dealing with. Like I said, I never tried, never had a need, I'm just less trusting I guess. Lol
Agree on suing someone over state lines, that gets all kinds of complicated.we have that problem at work every so often.
I put our daughters name on our contracts, for many reasons but the main one was so she has the ability to use points if she wants and having control over the reservation.
She needs the other two voting members to use them but she can if she needs.lol
She's not to bad, only scums a trip every other year or so. Lol.

I'd go outside of DDCC, but would require a contract.

Great thing about small claims. It's based out of the state of the person making the claim (plaintiff). So, that means they'd also either incur travel expense to defend themselves or just pay you back.

I love my Poly. It’s a great resort.

Well... maybe on one of your off years.... I might get up the nerve to try renting points?
Wait... I don't even know if you. Don't the points accumulate for a year or so? Or do you always lose them if you don't use them?

Like I feel.

Then again... I might have some problems. Or if someone down there is renting from someone up here.

Evening boys, from the town where driving laws are more of a rough guide than actually enforced. On the terrace having another cheeky beer. Been to the Vatican and the Castello di San Angelo to have a look at them all lit up.
My first Italian league match tomorrow, taking the boy, so looking forward to that.

The trust thing works both ways though. The renter could cancel the reservation and we are dumped with short expiry points.

You can bank points over a year but only once. 2018 points can be brought forward into 2017 or banked into 2019 for use, and that’s it.

I’m booking my April trip when I get back. I’ll let you know how many points I have spare and then it’s up to you buddy, the offer will be there.

My Good Friends, the cheque is in the mail, and I will Respect You All in the Morning!
You have done a good thing there Randall, good on ya.

But, you have to pay to have them served outside of the jurisdiction. If you can't prove service, then the lawsuit can't progress. And, if you can prove service, then another jurisdiction will not honor an out of state bench warrant in a small claims civil action, because the state is not going to pay to transport back across state lines. Then, you could try to get a lien against their property, which would require an out of state attorney after paying more for certified copy of the judgment. Yeah, I'll rent from one of you guys, but that's about it.

Well... maybe on one of your off years.... I might get up the nerve to try renting points?
Wait... I don't even know if you. Don't the points accumulate for a year or so? Or do you always lose them if you don't use them?

Rules on banking points and borrowing points from one year to the next, which is an oversimplification. Points can be lost or expired.

It is beneficial to the owner as they receive cash for their points. It is a benefit for the renter is they can stay at a deluxe resort for way cheaper than paying direct.

There is risk to the buyer as the points don't get used or the renter doesn't pay, and the owner loses those points for that year unless tey find another renter before they expire. There is risk to the renter as they are the owner's points, so the owner could cancel the reservation and the guest is stuck traveling their without lodging and being out their money.

A contract narrows down payment due dates, deposits, refunds, etc. However, the only recourse is a lawsuit. The rental place everyone hear avoids had an owner cancel the points, so their money was refunded, but now they had no place to stay. So, while they weren't out money, other than airfare, they either had to cancel that or pay out of pocket for whatever last minute accommodations were available.

Again. I think renting from a dad in here and maybe on thr FB group should be ok.

Have a great extended weekend gents and enjoy the start of the college football season, on of CJs favorite times of the year.
GO CUBS

Thanks Doc, don’t get in until Friday on a 6:00 a.m. departure so may take ya up on Saturday breakfast if I get to sleep at a reasonable time on Friday night

I think he will be just fine. Besides you have way more digital cheating capabilities than our parents had.

Nice on the current getaway and planning for more when he is out of the house. DS is a bit PO’d with us going in a couple of weeks and DW has been wanting to do MNSSHP for a good 15 years and ain’t happy either. I just laugh at em.

LOL I actually thought of that too

Pretty good Doc

Hope everything works out for you Norm with the pension stuff
I didn't even see this, glad to hear your feeling better. Chess pains in us old guys is always enough to scare the heck out of you. The worse part is, as I'm getting older, there's more and more on the, "oh I love peppers but the don't love me" list. Never can tell if your having a grabber or if it's just lunch. Scarie either way and nothing to mess with that's for sure.
I think what you need is a week at the world!

Last September, we lost two days, if you want to say, due to everything being closed because of Irma.
Don't get me wrong, we had a blast with some friends during the hurricane at the hurricane party, couldn't ask for anything better.
One thing we did get to do was the DVC evening at Marcums in Golden Oak. WOW !!!! They only had it a few nights and we were lucky enough to get a reservation. Here are some pictures how the rich live in WDW.
Long story short, we missed part of the cocktail hour because they forgot to pick us up at Boardwalk!!!
So, in true Disney fashion, I ate prime rib and drank for three hours and they gave me my $300 back!!!
I told them they didn't have to do that but they insisted.
If you ever get the chance, do it!!!!
The picture of the fire pit, if you look in the back....... is the Golden Oak.

Top O the Mornin Dads! Had some friends with their mom who moving to this area and our inlaws over for some football and grilling. Great win by ND and my Cubs look like they are hitting their stride. Hope all are having a good weekend.
'Morning all...
I ought'a reply to a bunch of the conversations going on, but it's my last day off before I have to be working again, so I think I'll go sit on the beach for just a bit longer.
Hummm...
Didn't think about that.
Was just looking at when we might be able to go down and where we'd like to stay if we were on site.
May have to rethink or give up on it then.
We are going in two weeks and I book BWV at the 7 month mark.
Oh, man. Glad it wasn't a heart attack, but equally glad you're gonna get that checked out. Stuff like that is not to be taken lightly. Keep us posted.

THanks guys, appreciate the good vibes. Getting old can be a PITA and following your guys advice no cigars this weekend and heading to DaWorld in a couple of weeks all part of the disdads prescription :thumbsup2
View attachment 347605 View attachment 347606 September 2017, The Boardwalk bridge the day before hurricane Irma and the morning after hurricane Irma.
Leaving in 6 days, lets see if we can get this done without a hurricane. Lol
I’ll second that, don’t need that stuff

Looks like I might end up using my points in 2019 after all.

Why, you might ask.

Maybe you're not (probably aren't) asking, but I'll tell ya anyway.

My oldest daughter, when I told her we were heading to Disney in a few weeks, asked me when I'm taking her and her boys. Since I took my oldest son, DIL and grandsons last year, I figured it's her turn. So, I don't know when yet, but <sigh> will have to deal with the idiotic FP system again. Maybe I'll escape when she finds out how much tickets are. ;) On the other hand, I'm sure dad will help her as usual.
