DIS Dads DDC XXXIV: The Original Home Of The DISDads!!!

Dads of the DIS talk about life, bacon, Disney, bacon, kids, bacon, cars, bacon, family life, and lots of other fun stuff! And beer. And bacon.
Happy Sunday morning.

DW said that she has now lived with me longer than anyone else. I told her congratulations and condolences in the same sentence.

September 2017, The Boardwalk bridge the day before hurricane Irma and the morning after hurricane Irma.
Leaving in 6 days, lets see if we can get this done without a hurricane. Lol

We cancelled our vacation one year due to hurricane as we were at Vero Beach Resort and it was under state of emergency. I wish we had went instead.

Last September, we lost two days, if you want to say, due to everything being closed because of Irma.
Don't get me wrong, we had a blast with some friends during the hurricane at the hurricane party, couldn't ask for anything better.
One thing we did get to do was the DVC evening at Marcums in Golden Oak. WOW !!!! They only had it a few nights and we were lucky enough to get a reservation. Here are some pictures how the rich live in WDW.
Long story short, we missed part of the cocktail hour because they forgot to pick us up at Boardwalk!!!
So, in true Disney fashion, I ate prime rib and drank for three hours and they gave me my $300 back!!!
I told them they didn't have to do that but they insisted.
If you ever get the chance, do it!!!!
The picture of the fire pit, if you look in the back....... is the Golden Oak.

Way to eat like a rock star!!!

Looks like I might end up using my points in 2019 after all.

Why, you might ask.

Maybe you're not (probably aren't) asking, but I'll tell ya anyway.

My oldest daughter, when I told her we were heading to Disney in a few weeks, asked me when I'm taking her and her boys. Since I took my oldest son, DIL and grandsons last year, I figured it's her turn. So, I don't know when yet, but <sigh> will have to deal with the idiotic FP system again. Maybe I'll escape when she finds out how much tickets are. ;) On the other hand, I'm sure dad will help her as usual.

I'm all for not enabling my children, but grandchildren are a completely different conversation. Enjoy the extra trip.

Well, I don't think it's enabling, per se...I did want to take each of my kids and the younger 3 have been plenty, so trying to share the love a little. If it wouldn't be overwhelming (she doesn't know much about Disney), I'd just make the reservations and send them, but on the other hand, I wouldn't want to miss the looks on my grandson's faces when they get their first taste either.

I have mixed emotions about it. I love my kids and my grandkids, but my love of Disney has waned. Still really really detest the parking for staying at the resort. It's not I can't afford it, but just the money grubbing nature of it and the principle. Obviously, my love of their piss poor IT systems has been sufficiently conveyed, so won't reiterate that. Maybe I can convince DD to do VB or HHI instead. I have a feeling she'll want the whole WDW thing/experience for the boys vs. beach, but at least it will be the last time for a while. It will be at least 4-5 years before any of the other kids have grandkids and then for them to get old enough for me to take them.

HAPPY ANNIVERSARY CONGRATS!

Well DW and the girls are off to a baby shower for the day (at my in-laws about an hour and a half drive) so it’s bachelor’s day for me. Got out for a little hike this morning (which the girls rarely want to do). Then negated the benefit of the hike by eating fried chicken and donuts for lunch. Oh well...

In the next few days when I have more time, I will tell you something you may not know about Launch Bay and Star Tours that some might not know about
Sounds interesting.
Wasn’t it you that told us about the special thing you can do at One Man’s Dream? Well, I remembered on my trip last week and I have the certificate to prove it!

Had a bit of a scare here Wednesday night as I was hit with some knock ya on your butt chest pains while driving home from work. Got home, something I never felt so off to emergency room. All is good as the battery of tests they ran me through showed the ticker is just fine as is liver enzymes. Kicker is they couldn’t pinpoint what the heck is going on and saying maybe pleurisy which is inflammation of the lining of the lungs. Feeling better now and have follow up with regular doc on Tuesday.
Glad to hear you’re feeling better. Hope things stay that way.

Evening boys, from the town where driving laws are more of a rough guide than actually enforced. On the terrace having another cheeky beer. Been to the Vatican and the Castello di San Angelo to have a look at them all lit up.
I’ve been seeing some of your stuff on FB. Looks like a nice trip. Italy is near the top of my travel bucket list (since I’ve already been to London of course)

Don't think of the lunch as negating the hike.... think of the hike as negating the lunch!

Read the criteria on how to become a member and since I met several of them and the price is right (free) Decided to drop in and introduce myself.

Came across Disboards several years ago when I planned our first WDW trip. Never joined just read alot and snooped around. Fast forward and in planning our Dec 9-19 Trip I managed to find my way back here in one way or other and finally created an account.

My username is of course jbhodj (Jon) and Im happily married with 2 kids, DS 13 and DD 11. I call Iowa my home as I was born and raised here but had a little fork in my life when I received my BS Degree from Mississippi State University. Hail State and GTHOM.

We love to travel as a family and we are planning our fourth Disney vacation this December. We also love camping and spend most of our summer weekends camping someplace. Last year we went west with camper to Colorado and Moab. What a great trip. Planning on trying to make a Dis trip with camper soon as well.

Dont want to ramble to much but hey glad to be here and maybe if time works out and God willing I will have opportunity to meet so fellow DISDads in the future.

I think Australia is on my list for an Australian open. I'm watching Serena play now on US Open, and haven't been there either. I probably will make it to neither unless they appear on the World Showcase.

I must've missed the post about anniversary. Happy anniversary!!

I had it on FB. DW told me she has now lived with me longer than her parents. I guess one of those prompted Randall.

Welcome. Feel free to ramble away, as we do an excellent job of that. Glad to have another SEC school represented. Ever camped at WDW? DW and I camped early on in our marriage, not at WDW, but I was good with the tent and she wanted the RV - roughing it with electricity and water hookups. :lmao: Now, it's only hotel stays.

Evening Guys,

made it back from our little getaway and the house seems to be in one piece. Declan seems to be no worse for wear so we seem to have come through the with flying colours, well for now anyways. ;)

Had a great trip couple of days away with DW. We went with no plan and pretty much stayed that way. Saturday ended up being an impromptu pub crawl of sorts. We walked around the Halifax waterfront for about 5 hours and stopped at a few pubs to enjoy a sample of the local craft brews and ciders. All in all a lovely day.

I quickly read back through the last few pages and I see there was a nice total in the fundraising, there was more DVC rental talk, a health scare (hopefully better today) and more pictures from Zerf. Seems to be a relatively normal weekend around here.

Glad you made it back and that Declan was smart enough to hide the evidence of the epic party. Hope you don't get a surprise 9 months from now. :scared1: That will continue to be one of my fears for the next few years. :sad2:

Happy Anniversay young man

Thank you.

THanks guys, appreciate the good vibes. Getting old can be a PITA and following your guys advice no cigars this weekend and heading to DaWorld in a couple of weeks all part of the disdads prescription :thumbsup2

I’ll second that, don’t need that stuff

As my grandmother said, "Getting old isn't for sissies". Neither is the alternative.Take care of yourself. People depend on you.

Happy Sunday morning.

Congrats! SWMBO has another 7 years to go before she can make that claim.

Welcome aboard! Lived in central Iowa for three years and really liked it. Amazes everyone when I tell them that as they think it nothing but corn and beans.

Top O the Mornin Dads! Sure I’m out for a few days and you guys go into some of my favorite topics, kids, Cubs, DVC points, debating touchy subjects with inlaws and most importantly the fund raising for Andriana.

Guilty :ssst:. Glad it worked out for you:thumbsup2, just wondering if you signed the book, and if you saw what page you were on:confused3, We were on page 18 at the end of May, with book starting Jan 1st, that was less then 600 people to date, IMO it is something way under the radar:scratchin.
