DIS Dads DDC XXXIV: The Original Home Of The DISDads!!!

Dads of the DIS talk about life, bacon, Disney, bacon, kids, bacon, cars, bacon, family life, and lots of other fun stuff! And beer. And bacon.
nicker = £1 (cockney slang)
a knock = each (it's an old market stall term)
Sorry, that was deep East End. But I do love the alliteration of it.

Thanks for the translation. I read it and had no idea.

Congrats and may the reduction in stress actually arise.
Of course all teachers are pretty stressed, but any lessening achievable is good.

Judging from my wife, all teachers are just in survival mode at this point.

Yeah, it's that last bit there that we're trying to avoid.
I should probably just throw him out of the house and let him figure it out, but I just couldn't do it.

You big softy.

£1 = A Quid/Nicker
£5 = A Bluey (they are blue)
£10 = An Ayrton (the only rhyming that is used after Ayrton Senna = Tenner)
£20 = A Score
£25 = A Pony
£50 = Reddies (now just generally means money, original £50 notes were red), modern slang is A Hawaii.
£100 = A Ton
£250 = A String of Ponies (never used really)
£500 = A Monkey (many get confused between 250 and 500 on this one)
£1000 = A Grand

This sounds like just enough to get me into trouble and make me lose my shirt in negotiations.

You never know, maybe one day £130,000 will be called a Donald.

:lmao::rotfl::rotfl2:

So there you go. You can now confidently haggle in a London market. Except the hipster serving you your organic flat white won't have a Scooby (Doo) what you're on about.

That will make two of us. I bet I'll come home with the weirdest souvenirs, not even knowing how I bought them.

Been missing for a couple of days, I've been looking after a workshop we were running on Tuesday and Wednesday. We are still in the flood zone, in the City we officially reached the 2008 level of 8.36 meters (normal is 1.6 meters). To help you all out that's about 22 feet above normal and 2008 was the worst flood in about 35 years. Communities below us are hitting that 1973 level and they just announced they are closing a major highway that was built to withstand floods up to that level.

Dang. I hope the waters recede and the recovery can begin soon.

Agreed. State funding decreasing and tuition costs increasing. Here, new building are being constructed, but College president assures us via email that those funds for new buildings have nothing to do increased costs. There are many ways to decrease costs at universities by closing buildings and removing the high salaried faculty administrators. That won't happen though.

Same at our school. So many administrators, and no one has any idea what exactly they do.

<sigh> Behind again.
Anything I need to know?

With this group?

:rotfl::rotfl2::lmao::rotfl::rotfl2::lmao::rotfl::rotfl2::lmao:

No.

'Morning all...
Out little town cranks up their big spring-ish festival this afternoon. That means that the whole of town will be completely snarled up with traffic, poorly parked SUVs and a bunch of closed major roadways. The up side of this is that since I work in our miniature downtown area, our overlords are actually recommending that folks leave early today to get out harms way. Imagine that?

<sigh> Behind again.
Anything I need to know?
Pbbfffft!
Can you even imagine?

Well, actually...
We did determine that 130,000 of something should hence forth be known as a "Donald".
Or possibly a "Stormy" or a "Hush"...

That could be important someday.

You big softy.
Well that's one word beginning with "s" that could explain it.
I can think of others that might be more properly descriptive...

We pay rent on a house for him during the school year, since it's a yearlong lease we are paying for it this summer anyway, so he will be staying there.
Ahhhh...
what school is he attending? Coastal? Wilmington?

We do the same for our younger, but that place in up in the NC mountains, so summer jobs are a bit less plentiful and don't come with near as much potential nightlife and party time.

So I met a DIS Dad in my favorite taproom here in Orono, ME last night! He's as big a Disney fan as I am, but of course I can't remember his board name because... BEER!! Anyhow, it was great fun to talk about my happy place with someone who understands what I mean when I say "I stayed up until free dining dropped" and knew what I meant when I said how much we LOVE AKL and Boma. It really is a small world, and I had a TERRIFIC time talking about our favorite places with another Disney fanatic!!

Went to the mailbox and Netflix kindly delivered "The Lat Jedi" DVD. I know what my evening entertainment will be. May the Fourth be with you.

While hurricane season is nearly a month away, we have our first disturbance just east of the Bahamas. Hope this is not a harbinger of things to come.

You never know, maybe one day £130,000 will be called a Donald.

That, or a Stormy...

Or possibly A Hush

Screen spit take on all of those.

Cancel yours, join ours. Come for the drinks, stay for the drama...

lol. This one should be fairly drama free

Wish I could. Trying to work on a trip to Europe next year and the Disney trip is cheaper because of points. When are your sail dates?

Thanks. We have lots of friends who have to deal with the water in their houses or are completely cut-off. Luckily that isn't us.

Hoping everything gets back to normal soon.

Makes sense.

I say that is a win. Maybe you should call it this week.

An oldie but a goodie.

On behalf of all the Brethren here, especially the one who helped you forget his name with beer, Thank You!

OK boys, that's it. I'm calling it. Work week over. Everyone out. As it's May 4th, last one in the Mos Eisley Cantina for a cheeky one before we set off to Alderaan has to bunk up with Captain Phasma. And let me tell ya, she loves a shiny helmet.

Have a great Friday boys.

Same to you. Enjoy the garden if you are working on it this weekend.
