DIS Dads DDC XXXIV: The Original Home Of The DISDads!!!

Dads of the DIS talk about life, bacon, Disney, bacon, kids, bacon, cars, bacon, family life, and lots of other fun stuff! And beer. And bacon.
He used to throw his glove, bat and any thing else he could find while getting angry. He handles it much better now and has learned to support his teammates and be a leader. I've seen him run out to the outfield to tell a friend not to worry and catch the next one. Umpire didn't like the delay, but I thought it was pretty cool. Now if I can just get him to do his homework without fighting every night.:faint:

I always felt it was good when once in a while my kid got hit by something that knocked her on her butt. Shows nothing comes easy. Good to hear he learned the lesson, makes you a better player and person. Sorry, can't help you with the homework thing.

Makers Mark is good. DW did an ambassador thing and someone else did one for DisDads. When those barrels are ready, we'll make sure to include you and arrange for the bootlegging somehow.

When I did my KY/Tenn road trip, took a drive to MM. Loved the tour, the tasting and even bought a bottle to dip in the wax myself.

Babies getting ready to ship. One interesting thing I found was in the wax room, they would once every couple of hundreds of bottles or so, select one to be waxed to the label. Rare items.

As for the other, what, because there are no asshats anywhere else other than Miami. :lmao:

Yea true, but we get asshats from all over the world.

Home from tennis with another win. That's 4 straight matches and I sure am tired. I can use a day at the office to rest.

With all the discussion I am now looking forward to a nice drink tonight, manhattan, straight or on the rocks? Also thought we could all use a graphical reference..........................

Great pictures.

.

If you ever are here around Christmas, you can dip the bottle in the red wax and then a green wax. Extra festive bourbon.

A Double Shot of BEVERLY Day to say the least. New director that I had hopes for is now questioning the sustainability of my program despite the fact that my boss doesn't. Apparently providing office space and utilities qualifies him to comment on the quantity and quality of my work.

On top of that, the state budget cuts have finally hit the ivory tower. While I think I should survive (despite the previous paragraph) many won't and one I am particularly concerned about has been my "unofficial assistant" for about 2 days a week. Do more with less until their is nothing useful that you have left to give.

If I knew 30 years ago what I know now I never would have gone to work in academia but as I am fond of saying, I am still on the green side of the sod so it could be worse.

Some final pics from the trip.

The quiet pool at the Poly. Not so quiet but a nice addition especially if you are lucky enough to snag one of these sheltered areas. Almost a personal bungalow. This was a construction zone when I stayed here in January.

She needed to print out some docs and we went to the business center in the contemporary. Notice the clocks on the wall for different time zones and where those time zones are marked. Blurry but you may make it out.

The trip back to the hotel and the obligatory monorail pic

Or Space Mountain

Or the Contemporary

I decided since she had her full graduation gear, we were going to get pictures at the Poly and GF

And of course the bird cage (if you read my TR on her Sweet 16 trip you know why it was important)

Hungry so we decided to eat at the Grand Floridian Cafe. Robert our waiter loved the Lei from the Poly so he decided to ham it up.

I had the Rustic Chicken Sandwich, man was that tasty

She had some falafel thing that she liked a lot

Haven’t eaten there in a while and I don’t know why. Great respite during the heat of the day, food and service were excellent.

While we were killing time in the room, some of the residents came to say hi

California Grill time

Barely had time to order a drink at the bar before we were called to our table

Got a window view, nice

So glad the day before we snagged an ADR. Her favorite restaurant and her favorite dish called the Vegetarian Unplugged. They make this thing where four stations serve their favorite vegetarian item. All flavorful and diverse where each chef takes pride in what he/she serves. Really dark picture of it that doesn't do it justice.

I had the Filet Mignon with polenta and a beef reduction sauce

This was FANTASTIC! Steak perfectly done and tender, and while I was not a fan of polenta, this changed my mind.

They presented her gratis the peaches and cream creme brûlée

Great way to end our trip. Everything was perfect.

From then she shopped and did not buy anything including these ears

Slept well that night and despite oversleeping a bit we were able to get out of there relatively on time.

A few final pics of the Poly

See you next time

There are far too many people going to Disney... AND I'M NOT ONE OF THEM!!!
I second that motion! Nice to see some of the guys enjoying the World, just wish I was too...

This was FANTASTIC! Steak perfectly done and tender, and while I was not a fan of polenta, this changed my mind.
I can't say I've ever had polenta, but both it and the steak look fantastic!

Yesterday was day one of regular days off.
Told work not to call me because I was way too busy at home to come in.
Now I'm beat... and they called me for this morning.

Heigh ho, heigh ho... oh..... poop.

New director that I had hopes for is now questioning the sustainability of my program despite the fact that my boss doesn't.

wonderful <total and complete sarcasm implied.>

Do more with less until their is nothing useful that you have left to give.

Oh, man. If that isn't the motto every-freaking-where nowadays.

I decided since she had her full graduation gear, we were going to get pictures at the Poly and GF

Great idea!

Robert our waiter loved the Lei from the Poly so he decided to ham it up.

:lmao:

Should have!

Really tired this AM. I didn't sleep well since I was hurting. Thankfully, I can nap in the office.

On top of that, the state budget cuts have finally hit the ivory tower. If I knew 30 years ago what I know now I never would have gone to work in academia but as I am fond of saying, I am still on the green side of the sod so it could be worse.

For now, I survived the budget cuts as well, but there are still more meetings for more cuts. Not my employer, but CJ published salaries at UL - President and several others at $1.5 million, coaches and ADs over $3 to 5 million. There seems to be some hypocrisy when tuition is increased, buildings are remodeled, and staff is fired to pay those.

Good thing she was a good sport about wearing and posing with her grad gear. I'll second Grand Floridean Cafe and Cali Grill as two excellent choices.

!

On my phone, I have a button that says ignore. Any chance Canadian phounes have that same feature? :lmao:

Sorry to hear that, Shawn. I think we can all relate to those feelings. Reminds me of a great line I read in a Dennis Lehane novel a while back:

When they need you, they talk about duty and honor. When you need them, they talk about budgets.

Some final pics from the trip.

Looks like a great graduation celebration.

Hungry so we decided to eat at the Grand Floridian Cafe. Robert our waiter loved the Lei from the Poly so he decided to ham it up.

:rotfl2: I've heard good things about that restaurant. Will have to try it sometime.

:faint: Seems like someone needs to explain the concept of "days off".

Good Morning. Maybe one of the top mornings here weather wise of the year. Sunny, not too hot and the ocean breeze. Boy am I glad to be in the office.:headache:

Well, for those following, they added an extra baseball game for the JV team on Tuesday. DS won't be playing as he got the call up to varsity that we had been hoping for so will play the last game there and then stay on the roster for the state tournament. He was told to get his bull pen work in because he is expected to pitch when needed and maybe even be the closer for states.:thumbsup2 He has worked really hard this year and deserves it. He was also told that he will be one of the 3 top pitchers next season on varsity if he keeps up the efforts and continues to improve.

I hope everyone has a great weekend. Hopefully a long weekend for most.
.
Tough loss for DS. There's next season. A rum drinking contest would sure be enjoyable, and more enjoyable for the two people in the stands watching us play tennis. :lmao:

Just seeing if you were paying attention. I don't have alliances as that would imply way too much work on my part.
Now that is truly fighting words. Accusing a Boston Lobster of being Canadian? Call Trump as we need to build a Northern wall. :lmao:
Feel free to steal me some lobsters while you're at it. Or, just use CJ's credit card. :lmao:

I am always paying attention. I may be 3 days or a week behind, but I'll figure it out eventually. :goodvibes

Wait, those Canadian lobsters are invading our sovereign space again. I agree fully, a wall is needed and we should make Canada pay for it. Millions of illegal lobsters are crossing over, filling up our traps and creating hardship by dropping the price since there are so many of them. :rotfl2:

Nice winning streak! Pretty soon they'll be putting that plaque or naming the court after you.:banana::banana::banana::banana::banana::banana::banana::banana::banana::banana::banana:

Sorry to hear that the cuts are coming. Sounds like that new director was brought in to cut expenses and get to the new budget constraints. Hang in there. I think if most of us knew 30 years ago what we know now we would certainly have done things a little differently. While my job and career are certainly not the worst, there are a lot of other things I would like to be doing right now. Good luck getting through the cuts and hopefully keeping that assistant around.

Some final pics from the trip.

Great pics and thanks for posting. Andrianna has certainly done awesome and set the bar high for the DisDad kids following in her footsteps. We are planning trips to Providence, Umass Lowell (engineering), UNC Chapel Hill/Charlotte and University of Virginia over the next 6 months as we start the process with DS. I'm sure there will be more.

Welcome to Friday!

Thanks! Can you make it go by a little faster now. At least until we get to 5PM. Then you can slow it down again.

If we are paying the wall will be built with these.

By the way, it's 10:30 here is you want to set your clock ahead for a bit.

On my phone, I have a button that says ignore. Any chance Canadian phounes have that same feature? :lmao:

I didn't catch the "phounes" at first (thought it was a typo,) nicely doune.

What I can't ignore is the overtime money they pay me to come in.

:faint: Seems like someone needs to explain the concept of "days off".

Yes please!

Yeah, hard to give up that extra $$. Especially if it's going towards your trip in January to the DDCC. :thumbsup2 You are coming, right?:confused3

Thanks, I will need to remember that quote.

Best wishes to your DS and thanks. I really like my work, it is just the budgets and politics that get old. I didn't spend 9 years in college to sit behind a computer trying to chase money to hire someone to do what I want to do.

Maker's 46 is good as well. I've really enjoyed the Four Roses Single Barrel. It is a really good bourbon and a bit cheaper than the others. I don't have much left in the bottle though.

I've been wanting to try Four Roses. VA ABC is weird in that not all stores carry the same products. You have to visit them all to find what you want. That gets expensive as I never want to leave empty handed.

With all the discussion I am now looking forward to a nice drink tonight, manhattan, straight or on the rocks? Also thought we could all use a graphical reference..........................

Why choose? All the above!
