DIS Dads DDC XXXII: A Dole Whip in Paradise

Dads of the DIS talk about life, bacon, Disney, bacon, kids, bacon, cars, bacon, family life, and lots of other fun stuff! And beer. And bacon.

Not having an NBA team in Pgh makes following the NBA a challenge. I grew up a die hard Lakers fan and Magic was my hero. I used to watch the NBA all of the time from 1983-2004. Then I slowed down and eventually the wife and kids took over my schedule. I'm still a Lakers fan but only really watch come playoffs (not this year).

I am excited for LeBron to head back to the Cavs as Cleveland is just a little over a 2 hour trip for me. I never thought he'd go back to Cleveland, but I'm happy for the fans. It's a prodigal son story for sure. I really didn't like the way he left there and went to Miami. It was like flaunting the new girlfriend in front of the old one.

Last night, we went to celebrate youngest dd indoor soccer camp (futsal) achievement. They did mini-tournament games all week (4V4) rotating teams, but kept all their individual points. My youngest dd not only finished on the grand champion team (top 5 out of 50), but she was the overall goal scorer and won the Ronaldo award. The kids seemed to take it better than the parents of the boy children who lost to a girl.

Missed this first time around. Congrats to her. Can you say soccer scholarship? The University of Florida has a great soccer program and Gaineville is only a couple of hours from Orlando.

Im jealous and happy for you. Im hoping for next September. Speaking of that do any of you DVC owners rent your points (if you have them avaialble)?

Not enough for a whole trip but maybe a day or two add on. Let me know when you get closer.

Yea, he blew that roll out. I also thought it was a bit much.

Unfortunately all my DVC points are spent through 2016 or else you'd be welcome to them.

Yea, I would say screw it. If you can't stay on site, might as well just work. Have a great time Scott.

Don't thank me, thank his wife and MIL. It was a good run while it lasted. Last year I was in a lobby of a hotel in Europe watching the live stream of the end of game 7 against the Spurs. A fun, very early, morning. I wish him and Bosh nothing but good luck. Great players, class acts. Especially Bosh.

Onsite has that distinct advantage of being able to stumble home or having a built in DD in the bus driver!

It's amazing what influence a woman or women can have on a given situation. ;) :thumbsup2

OUTSTANDING! Proud parent moment for you right there, Norm. Congrats as it seems like quite a feat for her.

Morning all. Home with the dds today. I need to get an oil change for the vehicle and cut the weeds in the front yard. I thought it wasn't looking good there at one point. I think I see Paul hiding in there somewhere. :lmao:
Norm - congrats on the soccer achievements for DD. Yes the judge thing is now looking good again. I don't know. This politicking thing is like being married- every word has meaning that I don't understand and the meaning changes by the minute and I just want to go to the garage and drink beer.

Friday night Ownage.

And we really do enjoy our stays at their home Marriott resorts in Hilton Head and Myrtle Beach as well, so they are good to have.

I haven't stayed at Mariott in either of those locations, but the ones I have we're really nice. Hilton Head Island was a great vacation spot. We're planning on a return trip in 2016.

Anyone want to buy a LeBron Heat jersey? It is going to be a collector's item.

That and 2 beers will square ya! :lmao: I don't care what team he is on. I think he's an incredible player and I enjoy watching him play.

I'm interested to see what the Heat will look like next year. Plenty of cash to sign some interesting names...

I'm available. I'll be glad to hold a roster spot for the low low price of the league minimum. :lmao:

Congrats to your DD :cool1:

Thanks. As for the DVC points, I am down to my one BWV contract. Sorry, no more points available.

I was thinking of that today when I called Member Services to get a replacement card. We bought on July 1, 1996 (Opening Day at BW) and the Pirate Princess was just two. Can't count the number of vacations we took for that investment and it made trips like Hawaii feasible. So glad we were able to jump on it early and sign then. Need to break out some of the old pictures. Can't remember if there was color photography back then though.

I wish I could say the same thing. We stayed in WDW in 2000 and wish we had bought then. In 2005 when we returned with our dds for the first time, I really wish we had bought then. Finally, we bought in 2008.

Missed this first time around. Congrats to her. Can you say soccer scholarship? The University of Florida has a great soccer program and Gaineville is only a couple of hours from Orlando.
.

Thanks. I was hoping for somewhere closer to the beach, but Gainesville is a whole lot closer to WDW than KY. :teacher:

OUTSTANDING! Proud parent moment for you right there, Norm. Congrats as it seems like quite a feat for her.

Thanks. I'm probably one of the few parents who realizes the odds of pro athletics for a child, much less a girl. She was happy and I was proud of her. Being the overall winner was the icing on that cake.

I can help you with going to the garage and drink a beer. If that Miami Heat contract doesn't pan out, I'm available for hire. I'll be the entertainment coordinator.

Here's to great weekend to all.
Good morning, men! It's Friday!!!!! Last day of work before I'm off for a week of much needed vacation.:yay::cool1::dance3:
Enjoy the Smokey's my friend

Congrats to DD and proud Pappa! sounds more and more like she is ready for the club select level :thumbsup2
Good morning Guys, DD and I have stopped for breakfast, we are alittle less then an hr out from Cincinnati. DD woke me up at 4am so we got an early start.
Safe travels and as I think CJ stated her waking you up won't last much longer.
Good Morning Everyone. It's Friday! :thumbsup2 And I'm just a little excited as I've confirmed accommodations for our WDW next June.....I know, I know....next June is a long way off. But it's something! :cool1: :thumbsup2
Hey 2 Junes from now is worth celebrating pixiedust:
Oh and CJ, thanks for letting LeBron come back home. Welcome home LeBron! :thumbsup2
Anyone want to buy a LeBron Heat jersey? It is going to be a collector's item.
How about LeBron - he has more drama genes then DD & DW combined :rotfl2:

I apologize, I'm to tired to multi quote. Congrats to Norms DD, that's an awesome accomplishment! DD and I are worn out, she won't be waking me up at 4am this time. lots of water park fun, proud of DD for doing a lot of the water slides with me. Also spent a lot of time running around the 4 floors of the lobby playing a magic quest game with DD, she's passed out and I'm not far behind. Such a quick but fun trip, we will wake up, pack and then eat breakfast at the "loose moose" has to be a few jokes in there. Then drive home.

Glad you had a good time! A quick trip id better than NO trip. :thumbsup2

Top of the morning guys. Today we embark on a monumental journey. We have to head to the north side so I'm taking all of the kids with me. This means the four new ones get to go their first Disney and Lego stores! The cash and debit card will be safely secured in the safe, lol. One of my sons loves his Lego's. He sleeps with the Lego idea book from the library and his newest creations. I hope he does not explode when he walks into the store.

Morning to you! Sounds like an awesome day for everyone. I'm looking forward to hearing how it all goes. The Disney Store at the mall by us has come and gone more times than I can remember. Right now, it's in the 'gone' phase. The mall is pretty upscale and it always thought that the Dis Store did good business, but the store keeps closing on us :-(

Morning all. Spent yesterday taking down bunk bed in oldest dd's room. DW got the bright idea years ago that both girls could share a bedroom with bunk beds and share a play room. However, they managed to sleep on those bunk beds for about 2 weeks, fought the whole time, and returned to their separate rooms. I finally removed the bunk beds in lieu of the traditional frame (no headboard), box springs, and mattress. That was a fun chore. :crazy2:

Congrats to DD and proud Pappa! sounds more and more like she is ready for the club select level :thumbsup2

Thanks. And yes, it looks like she made that decision for next season.

That sounds like a lot of fun. But, you're really going to let them visit a Lego and Disney store for the first time and NOT buy something? You might get Scrooge of the year for that. :lmao:

Happy Saturday guys,

ABC Family has a Harry Potter marathon today. Wonder how may Universal ads will be on.

Most of you were about 12 when I bought.

Thanks. I was hoping for somewhere closer to the beach, but Gainesville is a whole lot closer to WDW than KY. :teacher:

Gainesville is less than an hour and a half drive from both the Gulf and the Atlantic. Just saying.

Ya think? Local news last night was bombarded with both the celebration over his "coming home" and Miami fans' reactions. And no, we were not burning jerseys and ownership is not trashing him. They even did a segment on life after Lebron. Basically, it came down to we live in S. Florida and they live in Cleveland. Good news is that Bosh resigned.

...Such a quick but fun trip, we will wake up, pack and then eat breakfast at the "loose moose" has to be a few jokes in there. Then drive home.

Sounds like a good time. Safe travels back.

Enjoy the window shopping.

We're actually heading down to Hilton Head next week. I'm looking forward to it as I haven't been there since 2001.

We usually would go with my parents to their other property, either Williamsburg or Myrtle Beach. Or we've been trading into Orlando.

They've been taking my sister and her family to Hilton Head and haven't missed a year for the last 10 or so. So I'm looking forward to them showing us around and knowing the good spots to eat.

I'm not looking forward to the drive and neither are my DD's. After hearing we were driving, my oldest DD said "Aw, but I wanna take a plane". I think they're getting spoiled by air travel. :sad2:

Top 'O the morning to yas. One week from today and DaWorld - can I get an amen! DS had his 17th Bday this week and I of course was on a business down and back to Atalanta and only got to see him when I got home at 9:30. He was hunkered down playing his new Wii U so he was good. Gonna be a crazy week as I fly out for business on Monday back Friday before heading down next Saturday. Have a great weekend guys.

Had the same thing here only with the DS - we had to get a bunk bed for when he had friends spend the night. I can think of better things than undoing DW ideas that ya just knew where off target - you're a good man there Norm.

Helllooooo bachelorhood!
The wife and kids left for NY today and won't be back for a week. By 11:00 am I had already run 4.5 miles, pulled a ton of weeds, done about an hour and a half of Rosetta Stone (I told myself I would finish it this year and I'm way behind schedule), cleaned the kitchen, and begun my week long Harry Potter marathon (I've only seen the first one).

I think my family has been holding me back all this time. I can be pretty productive when I want to be.

Happy Saturday guys,

ABC Family has a Harry Potter marathon today.

They stole my idea!! What a coincidence!

Lucky man! The opposite is happening with me. DW is a girl scout co-leader. I am at the grocery store from 8:30-9:30, then get home and she goes a GS camp meeting. Next thing I know our phone is ringing off the hook about play dates and such. Before I know it, I'm taking one DD to a play date swim, then my youngest wants to invite a friend over, so I pick them up. And DW is at a cross fit meeting (following the GS meeting) with my niece from 12:30-3PM and left me laundry instructions. :confused3

Something went horribly awry here.

In a few weeks the DW and kids are away for a camp. I was psyched for my bachelor weekend. Then work turned the tables on me. I'm now our event manager for the weekend...I oversee all major projects and provide guidance for an issues. On top of that, it's our quarterly disaster recovery weekend.

There is foul play afoot. I'm sure of it.:scratchin

Played tennis the morning. A little extra sore after yesterday's deconstruction.
Time for ibuprofen and ice bags.

Gainesville is less than an hour and a half drive from both the Gulf and the Atlantic. Just saying.
.

I've looked at Gainesville. I still prefer Golden Oak, but I've considered the beach and half way between. Retirement could be as soon as 8 more years.

Have a great trip. I was surprised at how much easier the drive was than WDW. After we made it to Atlanta, it was just a really short drive.

Have a great trip. I've missed a few birthdays and other stuff over the years with traveling, so I get ya there. I always feel guilty and the first few times, they would whine. Now, it's "bye dad", like it's no big deal.

Chris did more in one morning than I try to do in one year. Enjoy the freedom. :lmao:

Yeah, I'm thinking about getting my chauffeur's CDL so I can start billing someone other than myself for all the driving. :drive:

Thanks guys, DD and I got home about 30 min. I'm exhausted and hopefully can get a nap in, I kindof booked this trip forgetting I had a Glo Run 5K tonight with a friend tonight, so not looking forward to this.
